While our mom has been a resident at Superior for some time, we've gotten quite close to the staff and the residents as well. The aids and housekeeping teams are the most impressive and most caring individuals we've experienced and are quite thankful for their dedication and commitment to the residents. They are truly the communities greatest asset. We feel however that they are not actually appreciated (nor compensated) enough for the continuous very full schedule they have every day and for the number of residents they must care for; seems to me that this team would be the most fully staffed, EVERY DAY, and that their input is sought after regarding operations and patient care responsibilities and that their ability to know that they are supported and not pressed for time so tightly to get through their shift responsibilities with so many residents to care for. IF they weren't the team that they are, this could become a serious deficit. The activities planned for the assisted side are somewhat limited and without much variation. Bingo seems to be the highlight for most; special holiday occasions are typically very nice. Birthday acknowledgements are on the calendar but unlike when we moved in, they no longer make a bid deal for the residents on their special day...and goodness knows, they are all up there in age so every birthday is a big day for them and they want and need to be acknowledged and fussed over. The movies on Sat/Sun afternoon tend to be very old and are held inside the one available activity room chairs not comfortable enough to sit through a 90min movie! Perhaps periodic simulated "drive in movie" events upstairs in the big room near the parlor would be fun...let them drive in in their typical mediums, give them the comfy stuffed chairs to sit in, let them go to the "concession stand" for popcorn/soda/candy/hotdogs. [Name removed] is the very best at planning activities; while she was out on leave the residents had way fewer activities.....they need these a lot and they need more variety. Please give [name removed] the reigns again to be able to plan out more grand events (and give her some help!) The food...……...just not great. Of all the benefits they are provided as part of their monthly fees, the one thing those folks look forward to every day is eating well, seriously. The menus look nourishing but the results are only about 80%. A lot of it is cold, overcooked, and often appears like it is either leftovers thrown together or someone's last minute idea. (breakfast however is the very best meal of the day and is consistently great....except the powdered eggs!) Finally, as sad as the reality is, many folks last days and hours of their journey end while being a resident at this type of facility. The residents have grown over time to be prepared simply by nature of their ages, however, they also become very attached to each other. I have a very strong feeling about this that at SRC they need to be considered and some level of a simple memorial needs to be organized for each and every one of them that pass so the residents can have their time to grieve. To this point, people pass quietly and no one "tells" the residents; no one makes a gentle and tasteful announcement to them that this has occurred; they are left to learn about them from the chain of communication between the residents and then nothing else is said nor done for them. Makes me very sad for the residents left behind. While we clearly appreciate the care given to our mom and our family, the continuous changing of the Admin team has had the most negative impact on the residents with the nursing director changing from a consistent certified care manager to nurse managers to LPN's becoming the director, then moved out the door to advance to the corporate offices. There isn't a consistency in nursing care and the admin team has changed so many times, that the folks who move in to the roles don't get to become familiar with the residents and families before they are replaced again. The corporate entity needs to slow down and reinvest their time in listening to these comments, listening to their residents and listening to their aids and housekeepers. Admin is only as good as the people who support them.....support is minimal because there are not consistent Admin folks in place managing WITH the residents. Making this more of a business vs a home is going to be the downfall for SRC.

My dad has lived here for about 6 months. Overall he is happy here. Nice staff and he enjoys the compainionship. It’s very simple but that’s fine. He likes to sit in the lobby and visit with other residents. BUT they have no generator and it doesn’t seem like plans to put one in. (cost I suspect) In this day and age and in south Florida many many private homes, condos, restaurants and hotels etc have generators to get their residents through hurricane season without losing electricity, elevators, ac etc. I am thinking of the Miami place where residents died. Several weeks ago The Pointe residents were been told to leave their apartments by order of the fire marshall because of the danger caused by the lack of ac and electric. They really need to spend the money and get a generator or I think we will be looking at other options. Anyone expects to have electricity and air conditioning.

Did not stand out. Long distance from Nashville but pretty much similar to many other facilities. Program is not robust, If I remember correctly, food is cooked elsewhere and brought in on trays similar to hospitals. Not exactly a family homey feeling.

We will not be choosing Heritage. The property seemed well kept, but the atmosphere of the building seemed gloomy, in spite of large windows. The outdoor area for the memory care patients was small, with no place to get out of the sun, and nothing to do. Outdoor activity is important for my Mom. The number of clients was small, which would limit the number of people my mother could interact with. The eating area for the memory care patients seemed like an after-thought and was just stuck in front of the entry to that area. The tablecloths didn't fit the tables, and were just folded in half to make them usable. Not that important in itself, but seemed to indicate a lack of attention to detail. Overall impression was that the staff was professional, the facility was ok, but not the choice for us.

I am expecting things to improve at Beckett Lake. They are in the middle of a transition to a Brookdale community, and a major remodel, so everything is in disarray. With all of the changes, things are falling through the cracks. We have shown up for activities listed on the daily calendar, and there is no one around. The TV in the lounge doesn’t work. There have been several maintenance issues. Laundry service is supposed to be included, but when they have done the laundry, the clothes come back unfolded in a wrinkled pile. They seem to be short staffed, not enough Aides for the number of residents. Overall it has been a difficult transition, but the staff is really friendly and they seem to be genuinely interested in the welfare of the residents, so I’m hopeful that thing will improve when the remodel is finished.

This is an independent living facility, care services are not provided. The apartments are a good size and provide adequate storage space. The kitchen, although small with few drawers and cabinets, is adequate since the apartment residents are required to pay for 3 meals per day. The cleaning services are inconsistent, especially if your service is on a Monday. You are not permitted to request a new cleaning person if the one assigned to you does not meet your standards. The most disappointing aspect of the facility is the food quality and preparation. Breakfast is usually the most acceptable meal. Lunch (main meal) and dinner choices are limited, often unhealthy, repetitive and poorly prepared (too salty, served cold, covered with gravies, overlooked). Residents who have the initiative and social skills can keep busy on site. They can organize activities in space provided. Some activities are set by the social director. She is often busy providing many other services; occasional, bus driver, front desk substitute, etc. There are off site shopping, lunch, and other trips for residents who have few mobility issues.

We liked the look of Southlake and the friendly people - staff and residents smiled and greeted us in the hallways. Mom liked that the common spaces were smaller, providing intimate spaces for groups like arts & crafts or for sitting and reading. Every apartment has a small kitchen and its own laundry facilities with larger machines available for blankets or comforters (in common laundry rooms). This is an independent community but there are many residents who use walkers. We were surprised that the curbs around the building didn't have accessible ramps or cuts to accommodate those. We were told curb cuts will be done in the near future - we hope they will provide dedicated spaces for walkers or wheelchairs to access the parking lot or grounds. The one curb cut we saw was in front of a parking space where a car was parked, blocking access. We like the idea of renting an apartment and "aging in place" although it was stressed that only short term care would be allowed since they are not an assisted care facility. We hoped that if/when Mom needs help showering or dressing for a few hours a day (no medical care involved) that she could still live there. Not sure that's as accepted as it has been at other places we visited. The spaces felt quite open, but we were disappointed there were few balconies available in the apartments. Storage was a big concern; not much closet space and no storage units/spaces provided on site.

The community is lovely & clean. The staff is kind & friendly, but not always timely in providing care. My father needs near total care and my mother has had to call many times to remind them to take him to meals & assist him to bed . At first I thought my mother was exaggerating the lack of offerings and small portions on the dining room menu, but I saw it for myself the last 2 times I visited. Have discussed these concerns with management, with minor improvement seen. Hoping for the best!

If you are incapable of taking your meds., you will be charged another $250+ a month for them to administer them. If you need any level of care over the very minimum, it will be more than $300/ month more. So beware BEFORE you sign on.
