The $[removed] nonrefundable payment that must be paid immediately was excessive. Dad was only there 6 weeks, so that $[removed] seemed unreasonable. I think they should have pro rated that charge. When we were cleaning out dad's room, the main thing the facility director was concerned about was to make sure we took his mattress. I would not recommend the bungalows to anyone.

Needs a lot of improvement before we can recommend

Quality of care - 5 (clinical nursing staff), 2 (aid staff). My mother-in-law was a resident at Bungalows for a few months. Near the end of her stay, she fell in her room and suffered major bruising and a cut on her face. She was rushed to the ER by ambulance, was examined thoroughly, and returned to Bungalows a few hours later. Unfortunately, we only learned about the fall (and related ER trip) about 9 days later. We went to Bungalows to pick up my mother-in-law to take her to the ER because the staff nurse advised us that her leg was swollen. When we arrived, we noticed bruising on my mother-in-law's face and a healing cut above her eye. We immediately spoke to nursing staff and asked where the bruising/cut was from. They consulted the computer records and told us that she had fallen in her room in the early morning about 9 days prior and had been taken to the ER where she had also been diagnosed with pneumonia (which we also were unaware of). We expressed our frustration that we were not notified about the fall or her ER visit, especially since when my mother-in-law had fallen previously, resulting in NO injuries, nursing staff had called us immediately. This fall was MUCH worse, and yet we weren't contacted at all. Later at the ER, the medical staff noticed additional bruising on my mother-in-law's torso and leg (in fact, the bruising on the leg was the apparent cause of the swelling). Since this was our first awareness of this additional bruising, we again reached out the Bungalows and expressed our increasing concern over the extent of the fall and inquired more about what had been done at the ER visit so that diagnostic testing to determine the extent of the damage would not be duplicated. Soon after, we requested the records related to the fall from the Bungalows, and we discovered that the aid working with my mother-in-law the morning of her fall had actually recorded in the written record that she had spoken with my husband that morning and notified him about the fall (which was patently false). We even reviewed our phone records and found that we did not have any missed calls from Bungalows indicating they had not even attempted to reach us. We spoke with the Bungalows' administration about not only the lack of notification, but also about the aid's falsification of the records. The admin stated that they would review their procedures, but we were not very confident that anything would change. (Due to my mother-in-law's condition and our lack of confidence in Bungalows, she ended up being transferred from the ER to a nursing home and never returned to Bungalows.) While we had been very pleased with Bungalows' staff up to this point, especially their nursing staff, this experience very much soured our perception of the facility. While the aid who falsified the record was obviously in the wrong, and the rest of the staff might be very competent and professional, our experience with the facility following her fall leads us to the conclusion that the Bungalows has a lot of improvement to make on how they handle notifications and dealing with bad staff before we would be comfortable recommending the facility to anyone else.

Memory Care
January 21, 2025
Not recommended

My loved one was in the Memory Care unit. While some of the CNAs were very pleasant and caring, some were not. Understandably, because it was evident they were being overworked. We witnessed staff from the admin offices double up and work along side the CNAs from time to time. (I assumed they were certified but I never checked) Sedation medicine was administered because of agitation, but they abused it. They could not handle our loved one adequately, but never proposed or suggested alternatives. When we discovered he could no longer swallow on his own, we found residual crushed sedation medicine in his mouth that had been there for days, along with terrible hygiene. Bed soars developed, and the staff did not follow the wound care nurse's orders. They worsened so quickly that he lost the ability to walk. Once that all started, it was a slippery slope and he advanced quickly to hospice. The quality of care does not match the high pricing.

Unfriendly and Unresponsive Management

Management is poor -- unfriendly, unwelcoming and unresponsive to family members. I brought something to my brother one evening and the front door was wide open at 11 pm. I sat in the lobby over 40 minutes before someone closed the door. This is in a facility where residents don't lock their doors. Very dangerous.

Not Pleased

The staff, transportation, activities, facilities and rooms are all above average. The dinning room and meals however have been mediocre at best and usually well below acceptable. They do have a new chef on board now that has improved meal and food quality considerably. The biggest complaint however is that even though I have a signed contract explicitly stating that 3 meals per day are included in the rent payment they now state they will make the dinning room open to the public along with a liquor license and start charging for all meals separately from the rent charged. Without meals included the price for rent will be absolutely laughable if it didn't want to make you cry for the residents that cannot afford this! A complete game changer!

Our families experience

They could improve on staff they don't seem to have enough to keep up with everything. Staff isn't friendly and they complain about having to work so much. Rooms should be cleaned more often. They serve a lot of sandwiches instead of healthy meals. It just doesn't meet our expectations for the amount of money my sister spends there.

If your love one needs a lot of assistance look elsewhere. If they are independent, they should be okay.

They are not trained properly. I had items stolen. They did not assist you hen help was needed at night or after hours. Money was wasted on a call button that they never answered. Get to know everyone who is involved in your love one's heath care, make sure they write a care plan and check your expenses. Ask questions about staff training and education. If your love one needs a lot of assistance look elsewhere. If they are independent, they should be okay. The amount of money paid did not equal the services rendered.

My loved one was previously a resident at The Bungalows at Branson Meadows. This facility has issues with communication and scheduling. The doctor is on call only and in the time that my loved one was there she never saw him. She also needed paperwork done by him within thirty days and obviously that didn't happen. Overall, my loved one's experience at The Bungalows at Branson Meadows was poor.

Concerns with staffing and administration

My loved one was previously a resident at The Bungalows at Fayetteville. He fell after being placed on the toilet. His room was 85 degrees that same day. He had some staff that could not be trusted and the administrator was not responsive to those issues. We had some great staff, but nursing was inconsistent and some lacked compassion and understanding. We were disappointed overall, but it was a pleasant environment for the most part.

The Lafayette is a disappointment

The Lafayette used to have a good reputation, but it is under new ownership. The staff is generally nice and the housekeeping is good. The general manager is ineffective and concerns go unaddressed. Communication with family is nonexistent. The move in process was upsetting. The A/C unit was being replaced and they had move in date 5 weeks ahead. We opened the apartment to let the movers in and were met with a ladder and construction debris. The kitchen sink did not drain. No one from management greeted us or gave us any information on mealtimes, laundry, facilities, etc. We found out there was a notebook 2 weeks later and then received it after 3rd request. Dining service is terrible! They are always short staffed in the dining room and the meals are a hit or miss. They frequently run out of the posted meal of the day or the order is wrong. Two hours to be seated and get food at dinner and order mix ups are frequent. I did send an email to corporate about a month ago, but I have not received a reply. We cannot recommend The Lafayette and will be moving out as soon as we find a better facility.

Look further, needs improvements

The overall experience so far has not been favorable, the cleanliness is okay and the staff are mostly friendly with a few terrible exceptions. The care? Ha! The meals for nutrition wise receives a 2, but for cleanliness and staff hygiene practices that gets a 1. By the time we left they had improved on the activities with the new staff. They are after the buck. No gloves in the kitchen or reach into fridge. That's during COVID in bldg. Other care complaints, wanted bedridden husband (already arranged at this time to be moved to another facility) to be forced out for a fire drill. I repeatedly refused. Other egregious incidents. Illegal use of shaving cream. You know, thank God for the few great caregivers.

Proceed with Caution

My mother was a resident here between [date removed]. The first few months went well but then Phoenix Senior Living took over management. There were many issues of concern, including but not limited to inaccurate billings, loss of a document, improper staff behavior, unavailability of salon services and a medication "misunderstanding". An action by management, which did not adhere to the guidelines set forth in their contract, led to jeopardizing my mother's well being and was subsequently reported to the state authorities and the Phoenix headquarters. She passed away two weeks later. Over two months have passed and neither Phoenix nor the Neighborhood's management have acknowledged our concerns or her death. I have received notification that there is a state investigation pending. Our family would strongly advise against trusting the care of a loved one to this facility.

Tour experience

I don't know if the lady that met us to give the tour was having a bad day but, she wasn't very nice to start with. My sister is 4'11" and she was looking down at her like she smelled bad. We looked at each other, told her goodbye and left.

Not worth the cost

They changed administrative staff constantly, there was a ton of turnover while we were here. The quality of the food and the consistency of food was also a huge issue. My loved one was here a few months and ended up leaving because he was unhappy with his experience.

I will never understand that why, on weekends, we call in and get the answering machine. I feel it is necessary for everyone to let the front office know we are here. Years ago, I remember one of the male residents had died and no one would have known if we did not have the front desk.

My Tour Experience at Myrtle Beach Manor

This had a typical nursing home feel.

Would Not Recommend

I would say don't go here. Very poor quality. Not enough people, not enough care, nothing right. One night, there was absolutely nobody there and no care to be found. It was horrible. One thing that was good was the director was a good person. And PT/OT was excellent.
