If You Love Your Mother, Don't Allow Her Through the Doors of This Place

I would tell people to not go to this community. I feel they contributed to my loved one's death. The room was nice that my loved one was in. The staff consisted of CNA's and not nurses. I feel they were passing the CNA's off as nurses. The CNA's didn't know what nurses should have known. I ended up calling the ambulance from an outside window for my loved one. My brother called to speak to the nurses and they said I'm sorry they didn't know what he was talking about, and said I'm just a CNA. If I hadn't been outside the window of the community then my loved one would have waited for an unknown amount of time. They make the community sound great and it isn't. My loved one said she was going to be the Norma Rae. There was a woman who was mean at the staff. The staff would ask for my loved one to help the staff with this mean woman. The staff brought the wrong medicine all the time to my loved one. They told my loved one it was their medicine and it wasn't. After a while, the staff would come back and say oh you were right, it wasn't your medicine. I wish I wouldn't have ever put my loved one in this community, as they would still be alive.

Room for Improvement

At the moment my mother is currently receiving care for hospice here at this community. It is a really nice community, but I do have some concerns. There seems to be an overlap in care between the community staff, and hospice staff. I do feel there is some lack of care of their part, and as well lack of communication. It is a very nice community, but as far as caring for my mother, that could be better.

Not A Good Start

The room fixtures are falling down because they were not properly maintained. When we first walked in the room there was water on the floor because there was a leak. No one is really taking responsibility. Marketing was really good but once you get in there seems like quality of service drops. As a service they are not very good, but some of their staff is really good. Mom’s room smelled like pee and they did not wash sheets and get it taken care of. Seems like maintenance is reactive not proactive, they respond very well to issues but you have to ask them. I told admissions my mom has dementia so they need to turn the oven off because of the danger. When she moved in mom tried to cook and it was still working after I was told it would be shut off. My mom has to setup cable and electricity all on her own instead of the community taking care of it.

Probably better than some but still bad

Many of the 5-star reviews are from staff who no longer work there. The food is good for 1 or 2 wks; then it goes downhill & stays there for mos until the residents really complain; then it’s good for 1 or 2 wks & so on. Overcooked vegetables and the same vegetables served day after day. Too many carbs for older people prone to Type II diabetes. My dad’s sugar went from under 100 to almost 200 in the 3 years they’ve been there. The kitchen frequently runs out of entrees, side dishes & desserts. The “fine dining” claim in their literature is false. I’ve had finer dining in hospital cafeterias. I haven’t been able to visit with my parents in their apartment since March though provisions have been made for everyone else to enter the facility – workers renovating apartments, Sales showing apartments, new residents who aren’t quarantined after moving in. The Towers does not follow recommended guidelines for covid testing. The residents & staff were tested 1 time back in July. An individual has no control over their residence in a private retirement facility in spite of the over $4000 per mo they pay. One positive: staff members are thoughtful & caring; however, they are understaffed. The Towers doesn’t offer any real beneficial activities - bingo & wheel chair exercises, but there’s nothing like a yoga or tai chi class to help people with balance which is necessary to reduce falls.

Westmont is Blatantly Disrespectful to Musicians, Freelancers, and the Local Community

Westmont contacted my band to perform there back in June 2024. We did, and their residents and staff seemed to really enjoy it. We had a written agreement with Westmont to provide a donation to our non-profit in exchange for us playing the gig (in which our proceeds have directly supported local schools in their same zip code, which they were aware of). After the gig, Westmont came up with a series of excuses of why payment was delayed, then refused to answer all of our emails and phone calls for over 5 weeks. We were professional and courteous the entire time. We then got our legal counsel involved and magically Westmont started responding to them immediately. We finally got paid over 2.5 months after we played the gig, but with no explanation as to the delay. Searching 1 star Google reviews of Westmont uncovered a review by [name removed][website removed] -- he taught a series of 6 classes at Westmont in 2023, and still hasn't gotten paid for them.

Our families experience

The Barrington was a nightmare. I would caution any of your clients away from it, and likely any place managed by the same group. We had to move my mom in less than a year. They were not equipped to handle her dementia/anxiety and kicked her out. Their philosophy seems to be "Pay us an exorbitant fee and we'll babysit your loved one until they require care." The staff was very demanding of her, as if they were being stern with an obstinate child, and ill-equipped to do more than serve meals and change diapers. We are extremely bitter about her experience - our experience - with the Barrington. We involved an ombudsman when things went south, and have since filed complaints with the state. The Barrington medicated her into a vegetative state. Her condition improved considerably when her medication was adjusted after moving to [community name removed]. Their staff was well-trained and caring. They did not attempt to force Mom into activities she wasn't interested in... or shout at her for having dementia.

Not friendly or helpful

My parents currently live at this community and they have not had a great experience. They have a revolving door of executive directors which makes it hard to know who to reach out to. My most recent experience with the newest ED has been very disappointing…..very rude and abrasive. Did NOT like the way she talked to me and less than thrilled with the way she talked to my parents and handled their concerns.

Nice resort, not assisted care facility.

With our experience at Woodland Hills Community, the staffing consistency was poor. The staff often were unfamiliar with how to perform their duties which particularly included the business and nursing side of it. Would not reside there or place a family member there unless fully capable of self care.

Please consider a more established facility with long term employees

Do not put your loved one there. They need to improve with everything. We picked this community, because A Place for Mom suggested it and it was in close proximity to my brothers home. Unless there have been significant improvements in the last few months I would not recommend you send anyone there. It is a new beautiful facility but there is no consistency or accountability amongst staff, constant employee turnover, contract employees not administering medicine appropriately or at all.

Poor management for the last 10 years

Let’s keep the main thing the main thing. My mom was a resident for over 10 years and received excellent care. But if you intend on interacting, communicating, or relying on any supporting management to communicate you might as well be talking to a wall. Worse communication ever. NO ONE will return phone calls or emails except the business office. And the fact that RUI transfers corporate management to the facility as an interim director for years might give you a clue that no one is wiling to accept the position. Also know that if you plan or have to apply for Medicaid for your family member that the city or county in which they live in is where your application is submitted. That would be Richmond DSS, also the worse ever for communicating. Have sent an email every week for the last 4 weeks and still no reply. Please take head and find another facility out side of Richmond,

Nice place to viist, but. . .

Seaside at Fort Meyers had major flooding during the hurricane and lost one third of their roof. Prior to the hurricane, my family member had already been taken out of the facility and put into a nursing temporarily for other reasons. Her unit sat vacant while we waited to see what would happen. I never heard a word from Seaside regarding what happened to her belongings. They neve once contacted me to see how she was doing at the nursing home. Two weeks ago, they told me the facility is going to become a memory care only facility, but I won't be able to come in to see the state of her belongings for six weeks while they're under construction (no family allowed during that time). But then I got a call form the director telling me to come and get her stuff now. Prior to the hurricane, the facility was very nice. The rooms were very nice. The meals were great. But as far as how they handled the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, I am very dissatisfied.

smoke and mirrors?

I picked Ashleigh for my mom, in part because of all the good reviews online and the beauty of the facility itself. She has some needs (minor mobility challenges and some blood sugar stuff) but they are not overly extensive, so maybe I didn't delve as deeply as I should have. When you are looking at reviews, LOOK CAREFULLY! You will notice that Ashleigh has WAY more than other places. The reason for this is because the staff are asked to provide reviews for their own work place, which is a conflict of interest and illegal per Google. They also get a lot of their positive comments from "partners" so maybe people who have toured or been onsite one time and can't really speak with any authority about the things that would matter to a resident or their sons/daughters. We are considering a move to a place that puts substance and honesty above the smoke and mirrors that I have seen here. They need to be honest about what they actually do for these people, and not just look at photo ops

Not recommended

When you walk into this facility, it's beautiful. The main areas are clean, which is why I rated it a 4. But the resident room cleanliness, I would rate a 1. My dad's room wasn't kept clean, at times they would leave food sitting in his room for days. A few of the staff were wonderful, but most were not great. The management is horrible. I will say, they oversold us on the care that they could provide. I knew that within the first week of dad being here. The staff isn't trained to handle special care/needs. We ended up moving dad to another facility. I would absolutely not recommend this place to family and friends.

Scary, unbelievably bad experience.

Their Memory Care unit was not clean. They were not friendly. Especially if you asked for anything. Anything. In-house care was minimal. Under-manned and under-trained Staff. Facility was completely dependent on the CNAs hired privately. Poor nutrition. No variety. Very small portions. Several days meals were hours late and at incorrect temps. Meals were not fed to residents within a period of time for food safety. Activities usually inappropriate for dementia patients.

Community Tour

Our tour at Bay Lake was horrific - it was a big disappointment. I made an appointment with them and showed up, but they had no idea I was coming. They found a makeshift person to give the tour and rushed me through in under 30 min. On the tour, I encountered their med cart in the hallway, unlocked. Anyone could have reached in and taken pills. The dining menu was basically cheeseburgers. To show me a room, they found a gentleman who lived there and gave him no choice but to let me come in while he was there. He was visibly very uncomfortable. Had that been my loved one put in that situation, I would have been very upset. In terms of dollar to dollar, they were the highest price for the lowest value of the places that I toured.

Not Meeting Expectations

I would recommend you look elsewhere for your loved ones for a community. There has been a lot of turnover of staff at the local level. You pay for a lot more than you are getting. The community seems to be disorganized. The staff communication with the family wasn't great at first. Things have started to get better with communication, only because we have spoken several times to management to get my concerns accomplished.

Understaffed and a Hot Mess!

Do not be fooled by the new facility and amenities. Every day another administrator leaves. The nursing director, executive director and a few nurses all abruptly resigned as of last week. There is no qualified executive manager running this place. The majority of the nursing assistants are agency/contract workers. Even with the astonishingly high turnover rate in their nursing/clinical unit, they continue to accept new asst living residents. Management is a hot mess. They have multiple overlapping and processes for medication administration. They won't directly answer any questions. Multiple residents have had issues with their emergency call pendants functioning and Anthology refuses to address residents/family member's questions about the issues. If you need "any" level of assistance, look elsewhere....

Horrible facility

This has been on of the most unfriendly in knowledgeable facilities I’ve been this far. Staff is not properly trained to provide care to meet residents need. Nurse are not as friendly.. facility promises that they can me the needs of my transitioning loved one yet they was not able to. I’m very disappointed if the service we have received. If it make sense I will not put my dog let alone my fish here at this unfit filthy non caring facility
