Unclean Facility

Unfortunately I have to post a poor review about the Ivy. A month ago I was there visiting my Dad and I saw a rat run under a couch near the entrance to the "B" side. Then 4 days ago my Dad contracted Norovirus (transmission is fecal-oral, so someone preparing food did not wash their hands) and he was admitted to the hospital. I asked several times for his room to be cleaned because I had read that it lives for up to 2 weeks on surfaces and I had to keep going back to his room to get him things while he was in the hospital. They did not come and clean and they told me they would not clean unless it was his usual day (every Wednesday) or if he was being discharged. I find it very disappointing that they won't send in housekeeping to clean his room. He pays $[removed] a month, but cannot get his room cleaned when he's admitted to the hospital after contracting a virus from their food. Up until now we were very satisfied with their facility, but that has now changed.

make this your last resort

The time money and stress caused by my grandma living here was extreme. Poor quality of care, lack of staff, lack of experience and training, residents locked in their rooms with staff claiming ignorance about how that happened when they hold the keys. Escapes not reported. All around a complete mess of a facility and at a tremendous cost The positive reviews should absolutely be ignore especially "[name removed]" who tried multiple times to post a fake review on another platform. Many many families have fled this facility due to horrendous care. please look at reviews on all platforms you can as they are honest and awful. No experience is required to be a caretaker despite paying top dollar for care. Staff shortages mean the actives never happen and your loved one will be walking around aimlessly or seated in front of the tv for hours on end watching some show they never wanted to watch. Please look elsewhere.

Understaffed for anyone with high care needs

The Memory Care wing at Ivy Park San Ramon is a new facility, and as such is experiencing some teething troubles, most notably it is understaffed. If your loved one requires a low level of care, then it may be fine, however if they require more assistance with every day life, I cannot recommend it at this time. There were a number of things that were handled so poorly that we had to move to a new facility - we stayed within the Ivy Park family, moving to [removed] whose Memory Care wing is more established and better staffed

Disappointing

We were very disappointed in Ivy Park. We moved my 97-year old mother out after only three months. The main problem was Ivy Parks caregiver to resident ratio. There simply weren't enough caregivers on staff to provide an acceptable level of care for the number of residents who needed them. My mother frequently had to wait 30-45 minutes for help with essential tasks like going to the bathroom, getting transport to/from meals and assistance in preparing for bed at night. We tried to work with management to resolve issues. They were sympathetic and responsive in our meetings but there was no follow-through. Nothing changed. In addition, administration and operations were poorly managed and confusing. Information from doctors and physical therapists wasn't shared between shifts so care was inconsistent. Monthly bills weren't itemized so it was practically impossible for us to understand increased costs and very difficult to reach anyone who could explain them. Ultimately, we decided the best thing for my mother was to move her out.

Memory care unit lacks "care"

If I could give this memory care facility 0 stars, I would. Don't get me wrong, it is a very nice assisted living place with nice apartments and common areas. However, the memory care facility deserves 0 stars. My father who suffers from Alzheimer's entered the facility in early November. The staff at the memory care unit failed to give him his medications for 24 hours. After being without his meds, he had a psych episode and was taken to the hospital where he spent 3 weeks recovering from this experience. He is currently well taken care of in a residential care facility. The Ivy Park memory care unit is understaffed and lacks experienced caregivers. It recently changed ownership (July 2023) and the care is not on par with other facilities. Do your due diligence if you are considering Ivy Park for your loved ones suffering from dementia and don't be dazzled by nice facilities and good food. What patients with dementia need most is good experienced staff and Ivy Park doesn't have it.

Disappointment

Had to move our 100 yr old dad out of there after 2 yrs. Hard for him. This oakmont cant retain staff. Promoted the head of maintenance to be the head of memory care. Poor staff response to call lights. Other memory care residents entering others rooms uninvited. A memory care resident escaped multiple times, once picked up by car by my sister a couple of miles away as she recognized he was a resident. Director unable to resolve our complaints/concerns. We were paying [removed] dollars a month for our fathers care. For what?

Horrible place. Horrible

Oakmont has had ample opportunity to provide incredible service and care to the residents but ignored the many complaints. New uniforms do not suddenly mean better care when the care givers are still the same. Employees provide care with unrelated backgrounds such as McDonald's. Not for these prices. Your reputation is terrible for just cause. Even when the alarming reality of what was happening in Oakmont was fully presented to you, they ignored the facts, including that your employees speak horribly about management, residents and even families in Spanish. Do you really believe that these people are providing quality care when you're not around to watch? Let me assure you they are not. Food was so awful that we supplemented my moms food constantly. A friends mom on assisted living has meals brought in daily because of same complaints. When we asked for meals to be adjusted in any way we were advised that they are frozen meals reheated. All in all a horrible experience

Mom was dropped and we were not informed

We had to leave due to two staff members not letting us know that they dropped mom. There were always different caregivers . They would not put a gait belt on mom without prompting and they should have let us know in the beginning if they were not going to. I had to wait outside often to be let in and especially in the morning before work. They always were short staffed. I had to schedule showers because they would not stick to a schedule as written down in her room. We switched her to [removed] and this facility is outstanding compared to Sunrise. The activities director is kind.

Shocking quality of care

Oakmont took over a mess from Sunrise and somehow made it worse. My family member arrived in April and I am relieved to say that we moved out last week. While there are a handful of caring and competent caregivers and staff, it is wholly inadequate to compensate for the absent leadership, structure, process, and communication. The range of issues we've had span a wide array of critical safety concerns: 1) Unresponsiveness to pull cords and pendants 2) Confusion & miscommunication on medication orders 3) Unreported falls/injuries 4) Inadequate food resulting in rapid weight loss 5) Failure to test symptomatic residents for covid, to immediately provide isolation space, to notify families. Given the price tag, I was hoping for not just the above safety and aspects of care, but also enrichment and activities as well. Unfortunately, I feel like we've wasted months of precious time (particularly for someone with dementia). No loved ones & families should have to go through this.

What's NOT to love? Let me tell you!

While they would like to start over with a clean slate given new owners, the toilet has not been flushed so to speak. The majority of staff have been hired with NO previous training or qualifications. Current families are moving their residents out as quickly as they can! This is due to the lack of proper care and staff shortage. Mgmt refuses to commit to a staff resident/ ratio. The rates are extremely high and if your family member needs extra care, expect the monthly rate to increase! Due to the chronic short staffed situation, many families have felt pressured to bring in their own extra help. Residents have managed to escape the facility on occasion and the families were not notified. The advertised daily activities were a huge draw but this is yet another promise that has fallen flat due to short staff. Medications are not given at the stated times they should be and many families suspect that there are several instances where the medications were not given at all.

Think twice about putting your loved one in Oakmont, it's not the care that they promise

They made the facility sound wonderful when I moved my mom in, but they continued to have a lot of staff turnover, there weren't enough staff to adequately care for the residents or provide stimulating activities for them, as had been indicated. Most of the time when I visited they were just watching tv, playing bingo or jeopardy, which most couldn't understand. There wasn't much one to one interaction and a lot of the time people were just sitting alone with nothing to do. The staff didn't seem to care and didn't appear to be trained sufficiently to care for residents with Alzheimer's. I believe my mom;s mental and physical health suffered under their care due to their lack of care or training. When her mental health failed, as it does with Alzheimer's patients, the staff didn't know how to handle her outbursts, and we were asked to leave. They had no problem taking our money until she became hard to handle and then they didn't want anything to do with her. Once in a board and care facility, she had people who knew what they were doing and that actually cared about her well-being, and it was less expensive. I will also add that when my mom fell one day in the hallway another resident's family member saw her on the floor and told the staff member on duty and her response was "who is it?" Once she was told the name she then said "Oh, she does that sometimes" rather than getting up and checking her right away. It wasn't until the lady said I've never seen her do that and she looks like she's in pain. My mom had fallen and fractured her arm.

Beware

Memory care is filthy. Save your money this place is expensive, dirty and subpar. There's a complete disconnect at this facility where staff don't want to clean anything or even shower residents because they rather watch YouTube on their cell phones. If you want your loved one to be rudely spoken to by new employees on Night Shift who don't want to identify themselves or wear name tags this is the place for you. If you're okay with your family contracting fungal, Uti and sepsis infections and residents having injuries saying female staff beat them on the head; you've definitely found the right place.

Will make high blood pressure or memory issues worse..

Would not recommend Ivy Park for anyone suffering from high blood pressure or memory issues. This facility does building alarm testing multiple times through the day and also every night at 11PM and 5:45AM, it is incredibly loud. This type of noise pollution is shown to disrupt sleep, increase chances of illness, and reduce memory. They also disregard noise ordinances in the area and are unresponsive. (Will update if this ever changes)

Terrible experience!

Oakmont looks good from the outside but it is completely overpriced, mismanaged and understaffed. They continue to take in new residents who have needs beyond their staffing and so calls for help using the pendant emergency button go unanswered! Unsafe to have your loved ones here. The food is of the cheapest quality and tastes awful. Constant turnover of management, and there is no communication or consistency. They recently fired the one Recreation Director who was finally doing things right because she was spending too much money!! You will pay $8000 for a one bedroom with no additional services and it goes up every year and the services are completely lacking. They are cheap but charge exorbitant prices. Issues that are raised are never addressed, they just continue. Cannot keep staff , management, servers and care givers and are constantly understaffed. Residents are nice but they feel trapped and Mgmt takes advantage of that!

Terrible worst place ever

The food is constantly horrible. The staff is completely fake and not personable. Ask the staff to do something? I promise you won’t hear back in a long time. I never bothered to write a review for this garbage until I found shit in my food after having it sent back to the kitchen because my meat was raw. Yes a literal piece of shit was in my food. Pay a different place for your loved one to stay at unless you hate them and want to send them to hell because that’s what the ivy park experience was for me - hell

Don't expect good food here

My Mom moved to this facility over 2 uyears ago. The food was great for about 6 months after she moved in. No amount of complained by the residents has one any good. The terminated the head chef about 4 months ago. The new head chef is just as bad or worse. Many of the residents including my aged Mom say the food at Loaves and Fishes is bettr thanwhat they get. Breakfast oks okay. Too many tomato based food for these elderly residents. No seasoning and very tasteless. Two nights ago one of the residents was so upset that she walked her plate offood to the central kitchen and left it, That night everyone in her cottage where my Mom resides didn;t eat their meal. I am tird and fed up with nothing being done. Someone needs to call [name removed], the CEO of Pegasus and tell him to get his act together. His phone number is (mobile) [removed]. Complaints have gone no where for over a year. Don't move your familymember there if you want quality meals. Short on staff

needs improvement

The general manager [name removed] was absolutely terrible. She unilaterally decided my mom should be in memory care in literally after 24 hours in her position. You achieve this goal she sent my mom to the ER FOR A SIMPLE CUT. She then called the ER nurse and asked her to give a diagnosis of dementia. I was standing next the nurse while this conversation happened. We have moved mom because of this vendetta. Please note the frontline staff were amazing. If not for management we would gas remained

A complete waste of money and time!

Oakmont of Riverpark did not meet the most basic expectations of care, professionalism, and responsiveness. The untrained staff, coupled with the dismissive management, created an environment that could have been more beneficial to the well-being of its residents. I strongly urge anyone considering this facility to explore alternative options, as the care and treatment provided here fall far below acceptable standards. Don’t let the modern and beautiful interior fool you; this place has a vast staff turnaround and a bad reputation in the assisted living community (ask other facilities, and they will roll their eyes, Oakmont is known for having terrible care and high fees). I wish I had further investigated and saved myself and my loved one the HUGE expense and grief! And even now, I am still waiting on my community fee return; they said they had it for me; I went to pick it up, and nobody could find it. They lost my $2,200 check; complete incompetence running this place.
