Nightmare!

It's for profit only. They don't have enough staff. They do not pay well. Always someone new everyday. They call the ambulance for "change of condition". Ambulance arrives, they say nothings wrong. Patient gets charged $[removed] for non emergency. Feces and pee in the rooms. Rooms stink. Administrators are bully's, they blame patients for having dementia. It's ridiculous! CDSS called multiple times, substantiated our complaints. Waste of money. We moved my father in law, he is now thriving. No emergencies, clean room. Attentive staff! If we would have left him at Oakmont he would have died!

terrible experience at Oakmont

Beautiful facility, and it stops there. !!! Their tier system is a total rip off. The quality of care was very poor, the food was average, if that. The activities, if you can call them that were joke ! My family and I complained constantly about the poor quality of care my wife was given. My wife was there for about 8 months and after our numerous complaints the director [name removed] told me that she would not talk to any member of my family, only me ! My wife broke her hip there and [name removed] literally gave us no information on how it occurred. It appears they were trying to cover up the circumstances of the incident. After my wife broke he hip I took her out of Oakmont and placed her at Mercy Care in Oakland. The care there was excellent. I was part of a class action suit. It was not about the care it was about things we were lied to about when we placed my wife there in 2018. Oakmont lost the suit. Terrible place !!!!!

This facility is an old age home with lousy food and poor maintenance and activities. The apartment was nice, but the A/C-heating was not stable. They had ants and roaches. There's a constant change in poor management. They run out of food because the Chef's budget is too tight. The Chef is never around for dinner and there are problems with having enough wait staff.

I would not trust Sunrise of Santa Monica to care for my mother. They failed miserably.

I had my MIL at this facility since 2017. The care really degraded over time but it's been down right horrible since the last director left. For over two months, They failed to administer 5-6 medications and one of the medication was for stroke! Furthermore, they failed to alert me. Yet, that didn't stop them from charging me $[removed]a day/$[removed] month specifically for this care. They also charge separately for incontinence care yet I saw my MIL lay in soiled bed much too often. I finally moved her out and requested my refundable deposit. For two months, the director avoided my call in attempt to keep the money. I am going to have to do the small claims. Ugh. I typically do not write bad reviews but this is a pretty bad case. One does not expect such poor care of loved ones at any place let alone from a provider who charges so much.

Don't put your mom there

We put our mom at Oakmont of Fullerton in [date removed]. Our first complaint was she did not get her clothes back from laundry. Always someone else's clothes. Second they did not help her shower. She needed help in turning on the shower and she could shower herself. I would have to do that when I visited her weekly. Then in [date removed], she was violently attacked by a resident there. A large man hit our 4'11"mom in the back of the head and when she fell to the ground he kicked her in her back and fractured her vertebrae. He was removed by the police and she had to be taken to the hospital. They showed no regard for her care when she was brought back from the hospital and did not give her pain meds The management can care less about your family there. Management did not even know my mom was brought back from the hospital and laying in her room crying. My mom was in memory care. There was no excuse for them not checking on her when she got back from hospital. Managers need to be replaced.

Definitely not recommended for memory care

The first couple weeks were a honeymoon period, then it was awful. She only got one shower the whole time she was here. She had scabs all over her knees. She did not feel good and I called 911 and they did not want me to call. She had over a 100 degree temperature when the EMTs got there. It turned out that she had sepsis and she passed away and they had no idea and no one ever communicated with me. There were a few good staff members, but a lot of staff were just sitting around. Whenever I would call with any issues they were dismissed. It was a really bad experience. I would not recommend this facility for memory care at all.

Don’t waste your money

This facility is very overpriced , [removed]/month for a 1 bedroom that goes up every year . Service is deplorable , extremely under staffed !! No response to emergency call button when there is a emergency ! Lots of Covid outbreak with horrible care while in quarantine . Five star dining is a joke ! Food is lousy , inconsistent, poor quality , badly prepared , often cold when it should be hot ! Care givers , medical staff , housekeeping completely understaffed ! Transportation unreliable . Executive Director is aloof and has no interaction with residents . She never attends town hall meetings and demands for change go unanswered ! Don’t waste your money . Marketing staff tells you all lies , don’t believe any of it . This is a true assessment of the facility !

They messed up on my mom's medication. The head nurse told us they over charged us in a meeting we had with her. Then said she never told us that. My mother had a good experience there, but it was a hassle on day one. Very disorganized. They never told us what we were responsible for. They lost most of my mom's towels. Everyday it was something that we had to deal with. The executive director was suppose to meet with us, but went on vacation and when he returned he either quit or was fired. But there wasn't anyone else to take his place.

awful!

I have a family member who lives at this place and we were fooled by the nice-looking facade. The caregivers do not know what they are doing, and the activity department just lost their most talented team members. This place has been going downhill ever since Oakmont took over. The only nice thing is the nice-looking building and the patios.

Unacceptable laziness

Every time I go to visit, I am surprised at what I see.. a resident that cant get out of bed threw up on the floor around 8 am this morning.. I went to visit at 6pm and it was still on the floor . seems that they pass the buck quit a bit. dirty diapers pile up in the small trash can . The rooms get stinky and its not fair to the resident to have to smell it all day . The rent there is pretty pricey...the whole place looks amazing when you first come in...BUT don't let that fool you...once you move in you'll see its not what you get..in the interview they made it sound like the best place to be..im learning that isn't so...the resident hasn't been out of her bed in more then 2 months not even for a shower...the people in charge have been told ..but nothing ..tonight I took photos of the throw up on the floor and the kitchen wall with junk on it and the refrigerator was full of rotten food as well....that amount of rent, it should NOT be like this. just wanted other families to be aware...

Dont bother

The cost is too high for too little of service. I would say to not go to this community because we did not like it for our loved one. The people are very nice its just they don't have enough bodies to do all of the work that is needed at this community. They don't have enough staff to be able to have activities with the residents. There is no one around to do things or even take them on a walk if they wanted.

Ridiculous

I went with a friend to visit her mom at Ivy Park at Otay Ranch. The building was clean and so spacious. But when we went inside memory care, the residents smell. My friends moms diaper was so wet. Their caregivers were just sitting there doing nothing. And to my surprise, they were just sitting at the dining room. One of the lazy caregivers told us that they are not allowed to sit at their living room which they used to. My friends mom has been there for years and I haven't seen and smelled her so badly. She used to be clean. My friend asked the caregiver to change her mom's diaper. If we didn't visit her, she would be sitting on her wet diaper the whole afternoon. I am sure the management knows what is happening or they don't care at all.

An expensive mistake

This facility may be new and beautiful, but it is deeply troubled stemming from a lack of leadership, frequent management turn-over, a lack of staff training and temporary staff that hasn't been fully vetted. Fall monitors were not functional, nor were the emergency pendants until 10 months after the facility opened. As of this date - [date removed], the state has sited their memory care unit with 12 type A citations, which are the most serious, and 19 type B citations. Now they are applying for a new license, which will remove all prior citations, and consumers won't see a 3 year history of all citations unless they officially request a report from the CDSS (California Department of Social Services) My family was afraid for my mother's safety every single day she was there.

Beautiful on the outside, horrible resident care

My L.O. Lived here, they are all for profit. They spend all of their money on a beautiful building, on marketing, and on a decent chef. Don’t be fooled, both the assisted living community and the memory care Traditions have awful care. Untrained care staff, horrible communication, medication mishaps, unsafe environment. The turnover rate is as ridiculous as their care costs. Save your family member and do not place them in this building. Look online at the department of Social services to see valid and substantiated complaints for yourself.

Beware of what you see

I went to this community to see if this would help with my loved one and her care. When we first got there it was a good property and the assessment was done on a point system. My loved one was assessed on a level that stated that she would need two people for her care needs. I was asked to bring in all of my loved ones items that she needed for her room and to stock up everything that she would need. During intake we went through everything and the expectations for them as well as me. Once my loved one moved in whenever she would need something her roommate would have to go let them know that she needed something and it just did not sit right me. My loved ones doctor came in and found her on the floor with everyone around her and they had to go to the hospital. My loved one was in a chair and fell out and we were told that they could not use seat belts on the patients. The people were not engaging and I feel like they were overworked. This could be a really good community but this was just not a good experience. I removed my mother and brought her home and things are changing. If something looks good on the outside be sure to make sure that it is just as good on the inside.
