Have a camera in the room. Staff lied about changing my mother, bringing her food tray, etc. I had camera footage proving they did not check on her. This allowed me to verify she was being cared for as required and to call the facility when care was not provided.

Tremendously understaffed to the detriment of those living there.

It has been nearly a year since asking for a repair on a leaking shower. Now the ceiling is cracked and the water pouring in when the people upstairs take a shower. The refrigerator has been leaking for four months. The elevators have repeat broken and are not repaired for 3 to 4 months. Dining room is so understaffed that it takes 45 minutes to an hour to get one’s meal, and then it is often incorrect. At least 10 to 15 high-ranking people have left their positions, including the the chef, activities director, and driver. There are no replacements. The state of the art theater room has been inoperable for months on end. Covid protocol was abominable. The health department was called in to deal with the rampant Norovirus that just swept through the facility. The menu needs to be developed by a nutritionist. Meat at every meal without vegetarian options is unacceptable. The facility is pretty if you don’t look to closely.

Friendly, clean , and welcoming

Communication with administrative staff is abysmal. They do not return phone calls or emails. They have difficulty keeping staff. But the facility is clean and well kept. The service staff and the front desk staff are fantastic. The recommendation for pine park medical was not beneficial to my parents' health. But, the medical response staff is terrific. They've had a difficult time keeping g a chef, the dining rules are somewhat confusing, and the food is often only mediocre. They have few activities focused for men, and very few for those who are visually impaired. But they are constantly trying to improve. My parents have been happy here. There are some concerns about assisted living pricing and services, but overall it's been a positive experience

Some of the staff is great. Some not so great. The staff was very good when the lady in charge of memory care was there. Lacking in areas when she wasn't. It did feel uncomfortable working with people, like I was a tattle tale. Employees should be professional & taught to be. I wish I could make a huge difference in the next persons lives. Would not recommend

We have been very disappointed in this facility. There is no transportation available which has caused a lot of problems. The food is inedible and both my parents have lost a lot of weight. A care giver hit my father but was not fired. I would move them out but it would be a very difficult task.

Our Experience

We had four months with Sunrise and I would rate them a 4-5. Since Ivy Park took over, it's been frustrating. I feel it's taking them a long time to stabilize and with all the turnover, the Memory Care area has been constantly low in staff/care. Always new faces who don't understand what my father needs and the costs went up. Cleanliness is a constant challenge, but good job. It was better under Sunrise, but it feels like Ivy Park is finally under control in this area. Every one is very friendly and everyone cares. We bring in Visiting Angels to supplement care because there's been so much staff turnover since Ivy Park took over and we can't count on consistent care right now. Sunrise had a wonderful staff, they knew the patients and their needs. Since Ivy Park took over there has been a high level of turnover in staff, constantly new care givers in Memory Care, so they don't have enough experience to provide good care. Good people, I think a year from now I would rate more highly, but right now this is a generous rating. Dad has gained 3 inches on his waist in a year. He likes the food! They offer more activities than my father is interested in, but it's good for the population. As for Value for Cost, I think it's very high cost for the level of care that we are getting. Overall, my father is very happy there and he is safe/in good hands. I just hope that the staffing situation stabilizes soon.

All fluff and no substance…

I had high hopes for this facility and have been sorely disappointed. It boils down to inconsistent leadership. No one seems to stay, from the Executive Director on down to caregivers. As a result, if you have a question or express a need, you get passed around and around, or worse yet, no one responds. For example, monthly bills are not itemized and it’s difficult to reach anyone to explain them. Weeks go by and in the meantime they add late charges, but no communication. From maintenance to administration to operations, there is no consistency. Moving a loved one into a care facility is difficult enough without the added burden of fighting for communication and support. We are in the process of looking for another location for our family member. At this time, I cannot recommend this facility.

Haven't got their act together yet

My dad has been in Oakmont of Torrance nearly 3 years. Turnover has been rife at all levels, including the Executive Director (at least 6 since dad moved in) and the Health Care Director (at least 5 since dad came). Most recently both the Executive Director and the Chef left. The kitchen is poorly operated and long waits are common. Dining is supposed to be available 7am - 7pm, but orders are discouraged after 6pm. They have an "all day menu", but if you order anything but the daily special, it takes ages. We have even had issues with the care staff from time to time, including very slow response to emergency call buttons. In 2021, they had a great Activities Director, but she left some time ago. Her successors have not been as energetic or imaginative, so many residents simply do not participate. The last Executive Director tried to staff up to improve service, but his recent departure leaves us wondering what to expect other than continued price increases.

We chose Oakmont initially because its location. However, there was a huge gap between assisted living and memory care. We needed something in between. Also, there was not enough staff for the amount of residents. It was hard to find someone. Lastly the layout of the place makes one feel that you're alone. Ie. Long empty hallways. [name removed] moved out spring of last year so the rating is for the time she was there.

Our Experience

I can't speak to the meals because my mom stopped eating shortly after she arrived. They were very flexible with move-in. They were very accommodating and placed us in a temporary cottage and then moved her when her cottage was available. They have just changed management of the company. They seem to be very short staffed. They could have worked better with hospice. I am undecided as to whether or not to recommend them. We did not like the director.

Not the Best Experience

Not the best experience for my friend. My friend was there a few weeks now. I have discovered that she has pressure sores and have fallen down. My friend never develop sores or fallen down. I am so disappointed in the care that she is in.

Not recommend for someone needing a higher level of care

Crescent Landing may be a good fit for someone who still has a reasonable level of cognition and who doesn't need a higher level of care, but it was a disaster for my dad. Ensure that the on-boarding process and level of care matches their loved one's needs. My dad had severe dementia and his first 2 nights (the ENTIRE night) were spent wandering the halls, essentially unattended. No one guided him to his room. He was disheveled, his clothes were damp with urine, and he developed a tremor. We pulled him out of the facility and took him to the hospital. He was diagnosed with COVID and he had a heart attack. It took around 2 weeks of care in the telemetry ward of Kaiser Hospital before he recovered enough to be transferred to a different (cleaner, higher level-of-care) facility.

Review for Rockville Terrace Senior Living

We picked this community because it was the only place taking intakes on the weekend.Be proactive, have a camera on your loved one. Staff tends to ignore clients and not provide basic care.

Our experience at Oakmont of Novato

My mother was previously a resident at Oakmont of Novato in the Memory Care unit. Her experience at this facility was very bad. They are understaffed at this facility and the staff that they do have are inexperienced. I (and several other families) had to remove and relocate our loved ones that were living at Oakmont of Novato. I would not recommend this facility at the present. They have many issues to work out. The facility is clean and the meals were good. However, the Memory Care unit is very short staffed and the Executive team is always in transition. In the six months that my mother was a resident, we had almost four different GM's.

Underwhelming

I did a lot of research with my mother to find her this location. The building is nice and for the most part the staff is quite good. Unfortunately, the food service has been extremely disappointing for her. In the 2 1/2 months she’s been there they’ve lost their chef as well as other key parts of their kitchen staff. Instead of table service, it’s often Buffet. This would be occasionally workable, they have run out of food periodically and the quality of the food has been poor. Tough chicken, dried out ham and small portions have become the norm. Many of her neighbors have taken to cooking their own meals and she orders from grocery stores for supplemental snacks. Needless to say in an aged community, the dining experience is a big part of the experience for meeting new people and staying active. Westmont knows this, they sold their kitchen skills and dining experience as a big plus. So far, it’s not! After 2 1/2 months she’s just now able to schedule a meeting for PT.
