A Place for Mom has scored Oakmont Management Group with 8.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 779 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Oakmont Management Group has 3,166 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.3 out of 5.
My experience with Oakmont was disappointing. I told the originally person who interviewed me that my mother had dementia, was incontinent and unsteady on her feet. I revealed exactly what was wrong with her and what we were looking for. She showed us a few one room studios and I asked if she had any apartments with a separate bedroom, she did and showed us and we loved it and said it looked perfect. We proceeded to give her a deposit and do all the things we were asked..doctors forms filled out, hook up cable and telephone, contact movers..the day before we were ready to move in the head manager called to say we cannot move in because my mom was diagnosed with dementia and that unit was in the assisted living side of facility, that she needed to be in memory care. I wanted my mom in memory care which is why I chose them in the first place. I was never told that the apartment she was moving into was assisted living. They finally agreed to let her move in if I hire 24 hour outside caregivers. I said I would thinking it was for a few days. It was permanent. I certainly would have never moved her out of her home if I was hiring 24 hour caregivers, she could have stayed home. So here I was paying for my mom to be in a care home but paying an outside agency to care for her. I was not happy and started looking for a new place that would care for her. I think Oakmont was at fault for even showing me a unit that was not really available to her knowing she had dementia. I was displeased with the way they handled everything.

I moved my mom into Vintage in November 2013 and she moved out in the middle of December 2013. The main reason she moved out was because the food and the service in the dining room was unacceptable. She waited as long as 2 1/2 hours to get some of her meals. The staff is very friendly and the accommodations are nice. The rooms are small for the price they are charging. My mom was paying $3070 per month for the smallest room they had to offer on the first floor. The food was terrible. My mom and I both complained and they said they would take care of it but nothing changed. The residents, care takers and other staff are very friendly and helpful but Vintage needs to get their act together as far as I'm concerned. The dining room should have 5 star gourmet food for what they are charging to live there. I hope this is helpful to anyone considering living there. Also, they charge a one time movein fee of $2,500 part of which is refundable if you move out within 60 days but you must give a 30 day notice on the first of the month in order to move out. This means that you are there for at least 2 months before you can leave and the first $500 is non-refundable at all.

My mother used to live there and I didn't like it. They wouldn't return phone calls. They were not responsive. She was constantly getting injured there. It was just too big. The individuals were okay but there's not direct person to contact ever. Sometimes they'd answer their emails and sometimes the wouldn't. The director changed several times - it was a mess. They had a base price that was already high and then they would add on to it. It was a real rip off in my opinion.

All seemed good going in, then my loved one passed away on his expected move in date. The Ivy tried to discount the refund to me by more than 80%. It took months and several visits to finally receive my money. I entered into correspondence with their parent company to finally get resolution.

1) improperly trained staff 2) high staff turn over rate 3) minimal activities provided for residents 4)staff to patient ratio low 5) justification for low staff is to raise rates. Typical over promise and under deliver. I wish these places were regulated then maybe there would be change.

A family member moved into Ivy Park and we were made a lot of promises like there would be low sodium meals. There would be vegetarian meals that you could eat anytime of day and the experience is different. There are hardly any vegetarian meals. There are probably not any low sodium meals at all. The person cooking didn’t seem to even understand what that meant. And a lot of the staff isn’t as friendly as they could be. they try to rush you out of the dining room when you’re not finished eating, if it’s not in the time that they think it’s appropriate though we were told you could eat anytime of day. the housekeeping has been minimal And indifferent and the housekeepers not very friendly. staff hasn’t really been available when you have a concern you want to talk to them about so I would say that it’s kind of questionable at this point. I’m assuming things will improve as my family member get used to the routine And there are good things.

We find it very disconcerting that 6 key members of the Administrative staff have left in one year's time. They have huge problems with handling any maintenance issues (a small dept. that has lost two key employees). The follow up from Administrative staff is horrible. If moving wasn't such a huge ordeal for my elderly Mother, we would be relocating.

1. food was awful and made her sick 2. The cookies they give you when you do tours are only for those who do tours. The residents do not get any. 3. The kitchen runs out of food items all the time. Fruit, tea, main dishes. 4. Work orders do not get completed after you move in. 5. Staff are very helpful before you move in. After you move in the work orders, don't get done. My mother in law needed some shelves, and they never got put in even after following up several times 6. Light bulbs never got changed after reporting they were out.

The community went through a management change on [date removed]. Since then there is no permanent management. Also many staff have left and have not been replaced yet. Since the changeover, communication and housekeeping was nonexistent. If families are looking at Ivy Park at Milpitas, I would recommend waiting a year until Ivy Park has implemented their new policies and procedures and to be fully staffed. This way the perspective family will not have to worry about what changes will be happening for their family member.

We have been somewhat disappointed with the new owners of Ivy Park. It’s not the staff but the management that we have found unreliable. Also there hasn’t been a driver for over a month so no weekly activities or transportation which we are paying for. The quality of the meals is also not the same as it once was. Thinking of moving our loved one to a different facility. We gave Westmont a glowing 5 star review, can’t do that for the new Ivy Park.

Friendly sales staff. Inaccurate contracts that they tell you to disregard stating that certain furniture is included but they say that's not true for that location. Very clean Staff is friendly and Quality of care is fine. If you have a low needs patient. It seems like they're cherry picking the easiest clients that take the least work. Good business model. Just something to be aware of. Value for cost was terrible TBH. Even though he was there for one week before, they complained that he needed to go back to the hospital for further help as he was too much for them to handle even though they evaluated him. We got no credit for those 3 weeks. And only got a prorated portion of the enrollment or commission I.e community fee back after notifying them that it's state law that requires them to return it. Initially they were going to give nothing back which is a clear violation of state law and my suspicion is they have done this to many others. Given the financial deception, I can't in good conscience give them anything more than a 2. If they had been honest and following state laws and with more accurate contracts than I would give them a 4. The lack of a point from a 5 is due to their choosing the easiest possible clients and not being forthcoming of their unwillingness to work with and help a new resident assimilate. Any resident that may be considered difficult should probably stay away. Read the contracts closely and know your rights when it comes to state law and refunds.

What we think The Terraces can improve on is having their caregivers actually caring for residents, most are on their phones. We asked for water never got it even with a few attempts.

The place was great when my father was ambulatory, but after he had a stroke, care was terrible. While they said they would be able to care for him until end of life, they were ill prepared to do so. He was left in his room 24/7 with occasional check ins. Never dressed or taken to the dining room. It was very sad and I was paying more then $[removed] a month at that time.

Ivy Park should only do Assisted living or only memory care for docile women, they don't know how to handle memory care for men or memory care patients that exhibit aggression; I had to pay for outside additional one on one care at their facility, because they are not properly staffed for memory care and are not trained to handle memory care patients. The memory care staff have to work the meal hours as wait staff and are spread so thin cleaning up after residence, they have no time to engage with patients and help them. The worst is they don't have restrooms near the activity & dining rooms in memory care; they require the residents to go back to their rooms to use the bathroom and then complain to the families when they wet them selves all the time. To top it all off the doctor that specializes in Dementia behavior that Ivy Park recommended to me for my father, had me move him to a memory care only facility that the staff is fully trained to handle just dementia patients, because she said Ivy Park can not take care of residents with dementia properly.

Not happy with them at all. They are short handed and have been through many employees as they can't stay staffed. Food has declined and the lack of reliable elevators have been an issue for over a year now. I would not recommend to any new clients. they suck in all categories. I wouldn't recommend anyone there until they do change their management company [facility removed] they are terrible and don't care about residents and/or families concerns. I also believe there's a class action suit against several of their properties.
