They were very helpful and kept us informed. Rooms were a good size. My dad was in a memory unit so he didn't participate much but others were involved in activities.

You get what you pay for

They are understaffed, although very friendly. The staff could be more hands-on and they could do better with hiring better qualified staff. There was an incident with my husband during his stay, which we believe was the result of an under-qualified or under-trained caregiver. They also did not engage him enough in activities either because they had him with the general memory care residents, who were at a higher level of care need than where he was at. They weren't able to individualize his care enough. The food at the community was good.

Independent Living building was separate from main bldg, so if at any time resident needed assistance w bathing, etc. they would have to move into main bldg; vaguely unpleasant smell in hallways; no inviting community gathering areas and I sensed no real social community (this all applies to Ind. Liv.- other units may be very different); apts were nice, with outside decks; staff I met are excellent

I have had family there in the past, and they seemed happy. I did not feel it would be a good match or as comfortable for dad. Things seemed very quiet and there seemed to be a lack of interaction with the residents.

the medication mismanagement is huge.

They lost medication, and there were some discrepancies what was given. There were medications that were never given. They need some better staff. It's not the worst place around, but the medication mismanagement is huge.

Would not recommend this community

This community was not very clean, it smelled. It wasn't just the typical nursing home smell, it was more of a dirty smell. However the staff was very friendly, one person in particular was extremely helpful. During COVID they did not have any activities, but before they played bingo. The rooms they provided were good in size, but weren't kept the cleanest.

Not a Place For Mom or Dad

Most of the staff hates their job and it shows in the care and treatment of residents. This is not my opinion, but direct from staff members. My family member has lived there for more than a year and yet to receive a shower, even though during our tour we were ensured they could accommodate showering needs. At the most it's quick once over with a wet towel and done. Breakfast is at 8am-10am and once again the meal was missed due to not having the resident ready until 10:30. This happens at least once a week. We have been seeking other facilities that can supply the level of care needed and promised. I cannot give too great of a review for fear of revealing who my loved one is. In the past when we have complained to management my loved one suffered retribution from the staff because of it. By the way, inspections and fire drills are a joke as prior notice is given when such things occur. During fire drills many residents are not even taken from their rooms as it would be too much trouble.

A nightmare

Saucon valley was a nightmare. They lied to me. They moved me from Independent living to Assisted without talking to me about it. Then they told me I couldn't keep my dog there. At which point I decided to move back home. And the food was absolutely awful. I had to go into the hospital a week later and the food there was 20 times better.

Review for Saucon Valley Manor

Stay away a very poor facility. Likely the level of care need in my wife's situation was beyond their ability. Don't send your loved one to that facility.

Review for Parkland Manor

Avoid this place. They didn't take care of her unless I called the manager. My mom begged to go home! That's where she is now. They touted the ambulatory care but didn't have two persons available to lift my mom to change her. She would then have to wait hours for someone to help her.

Would Not recommend

I moved my husband bc the care was so insufficient. He lost 20 lbs in one month, was over medicated at time or not medicated for pain, had soaked diapers almost daily at evening time where he wasn't rounded on all day, and was left in his chair mostly every day ALL DAY. He could walk when he went there and when I pulled him he could hardly stand up. He's been in the new facility for only 5 days now and is getting balanced home cooked meals daily 3x a day as opposed to getting just mashed potatoes with a little minced type of meat in it for lunch AND dinner daily. There were NO ACTIVITIES and very UNDER STAFFED. Only one aide on mostly every evening and one med tech that took care of both floors. She always did the 1st floor first bc the pts were more alert and functioning so that was easier and by the time she got upstairs to the dementia ward meds were always late. The place was not kept clean and they lost several of my husbands items of clothing. I could go on but I won't! I compare the care there to that of a poor mother dog locked up in a cage spitting out puppies with no regard to care, health or age and filth. If you want honesty you just got it. I'm an RN and I know the difference between good quality care and deplorable. Some of the aides were very nice and a few of the med techs as well, but they have no say so in scheduling and what is allowed or not. The place should be closed down.

our families experience

The higher management staff talk a good game and initially you feel like this IS a place you'd like your loved one to be at. Unfortunately it doesn't take very long to realize that the staff that are dealing with residents and relatives of residents are rude, abrupt, and really aren't taking care of anyone. The reason I gave this category a rating of 1 is for several reasons. One, when I finally did get to visit my family member in their own room and the "community" areas for residents on that floor, they were not kept clean. Second, there were several large items (an expensive walker to name one) that just disappeared into thin air. When I questioned the staff on attempting to locate it, I was told I should've notified them sooner. I responded how could I even know the walker was missing since I wasn't allowed to visit on the floor where they resided. I further stated that a walker can't be easily moved from one room to another without it being noticeable. Furthermore even though every single item brought in had to be labeled, most of the clothes in my family member's closet were not theirs. And last but not least, my family member's glasses, hearing aids, and personal phone all went missing. The lack of regard for resident's personal property speaks volumes as to the facilities cleanliness. I immediately knew my family member was not getting any type of care when I insisted on an "on floor" (where they were actually living) visit, as compared to a visit in a facility-wide common area, on a different floor from where they resided. Within 30 seconds of my arrival I noticed all of the staff on their phones engaged in games or watching TV. When I asked a question, the staff gave me a flippant response. When I attempted to ask another question later, the staff wouldn't even acknowledge my question. My family member was in a memory care area. Saucon's idea of "quality" care was to line everyone up against a wall in a wheelchair and then position a large banquet style table in front of them, basically pinning them all in place and leaving them in that position for the better part of each day. My observation of meals/dining was there was one option, and only one option, for each meal. It was microwaved on a paper plate and thrust in front of the residents to attempt to eat. No assistance was offered, or given, to help any resident with eating. There weren't activities to engage the residents. I refer you back to my answers for #3 and #4 above.. It is one thing to pay a premium dollar and receive premium care. I believe that Saucon charges premium prices and I can't even say they provide awful care because quite honestly, they provide ZERO care.

Avoid at all costs

The staff was rude to me, so imagine what they did to the residents. Mom was a dementia patient. The staff was on their phone, and away from residents. Mom's things went missing, such as her walker, clothing, eyeglasses, shoes, and hearing aid. There were blue/black bruises on mom. We moved her to a different facility. They put on a good fasad but were not good behind closed doors. I was not able to visit mom as often.

It was a really bad experience

I would tell others that I was not impressed or pleased with the care that we received at Saucon Valley Manor. I had a hard time getting a hold of anyone to check in on her, so communication was not good. My mom went in at 85 pounds and she got down to 60 and no one ever informed me about this. I got a call out of the blue that my mother had died and no one ever let me know how bad that she was getting and we weren't able to get in due to covid. The staff was not very friendly or cooperative with us. It was not anything like I expected it to be and I would not recommend this facility to anybody.

Not A Community I Would Recommend

I would not recommend this community to anybody. My tour lasted only ten minutes, and that was because I was trying being nice. This community is filthy. I felt bad for the residents that were living in this facility. I have seen better Medicaid facility that had better a better looking appearance. They need major improvement with the cleanliness of their community.

Was not impressed with this community!!

I was not very impressed with this community at all during my tour. They had a lot of things that I know for a fact my mother would not do well with. The hallways they had where very narrow and dim. The overall layout was just disappointing in my opinion. They did not even have any activities available for the residents. I would never put my mom in a place like this.
