They were very helpful and kept us informed. Rooms were a good size. My dad was in a memory unit so he didn't participate much but others were involved in activities.

The reception area was nice and the director was very informative. We reviewed my Dad's needs and provided me with a brochure with all the necessary information. The facility seemed odor free and clean. Their rates were good, but I'm still favoring Atria.

My Tour Experience at Whitehall Manor

The community didn't seem as well kept as other communities we toured and the community was further from family than we wanted.

Tour of Parkland Manor

I toured Parkland Manor and I didn't like it at all. It just didn't have a good vibe about it and was under construction at the time I visited. We chose another community because I didn't get a good feeling about Parkland Manor.

My review of Saucon Valley Manor

We had transferred our loved one from another facility to this one because we thought they had a memory care program. The director reached out to us letting us know since our loved one dementia was getting worse, but based on just the couple months she was there the dementia got way worst. We do not think they were giving her the medicine she needed for the dementia. She always contracted covid within the facility with other residents. Our only form of contact was through face time and the activities director who was in charge of scheduling them was very overwhelmed since they were short handed which in return made her rude. It was just an horrific experience.

Not Happy

Let me start off by explaining that my Mom, who is 91, is a resident. She cannot walk, has trouble hearing and is legally blind. She requires a Hoyer lift to get moved from her bed to her wheelchair and requires someone to push her wheelchair to and from the dining hall. Most times the aides are so busy that it takes more than an hour and sometimes more than two hours, after calling them, to get one to change her or two to operate the Hoyer to get her into the bed so they can change her. She has been injured by the aides while using the Hoyer lift on several occasions and suffered several cuts that required wound care nurses for weeks. It seems that while some aides know what to do when using the Hoyer, others do not have the training or the patience required to operate it safely. Mom has been in this home almost a year now and there are areas of her body that have never been washed. The food served leaves a lot to be desired. Please do yourself a favor and sample the food while your there, making sure it's the same that's being served to the residents. The food is often served cold and often too tough to eat. Many residents that need help getting to the dining hall are often missing meals because they get them ready too late. This is especially the case with breakfast. The building is nice and for the most part kept very clean. The management will bend over backwards to help you with any concern. It will be corrected immediately, but the corrections do not last and will be back to the way it was the next day. About half of the staff are caring people and the other half do what they need to do to keep their jobs and could care less about the residents. Some t the point of being mean and very rude. Many times you will see what I call a parking lot of residents in wheelchairs just parked in the "Florida Room" sleeping in their wheelchairs and seemingly waiting for the end. Parking them there makes it easier to get them to and from the dining hall. The med nurses issue the meds and any care that is prescribed. Many times that care gets forgotten. My mom has a problem with the skin on her feet and requires a cream to be applied daily. She sometimes goes for weeks without getting it applied. Given these circumstances you might ask why we leave her in such a place. Well it is one of the few that will accept a resident that needs to use a Hoyer lift. Having had Mom is several other homes it does not seem that they are all that different. The bottom line is everything and care comes later. As for activities at this home, I don't think my Mom has ever been taken to any activity other than her weekly hair appointment.

Dismal

I have visited this facility as has another family member, in searching for a place for our parent. Dark, dingy. Absolutely no sign of activities, engagement or productivity of any kind in the memory care section. One room offered was large but bare and dismally dark and the other room had no door and was off the community room where, if someone inside fell, nobody would hear it. I saw sad, lonely-looking residents sitting alone, with their heads down, at empty tables waiting as though something was going to happen. This place looks terrible at any price and the air smelled of urine. I saw one staff member sitting with one lady. Our parent is not demented enough to live here in dim isolation. [Removed] can get better service at no cost to them while our parents have so few options in their frail and needy years, and can't afford decent care at an affordable price, after having worked all their lives! [Removed].

Adequate Accommodations

It's been two months that my parents have been at this facility. There has been good things, but equally bad things. I believe there is not enough help for this fairly large community. The food is not very appetizing. Most of the employees are very friendly and try to be helpful. There are always going to be a few employees that really just don't care. Some health issues have been ignored/overlooked for my parents and not reported. I'm not happy about that.

I schedule an appointment to see the community for a potential home for my mom. When I got there I was not impressed with what I saw and felt. The people who were there were rude. Not what I wanted in a community.

A disappointment

For $[removed] a month in the memory unit I thought my husband would get better care. He is diabetic and they did not watch anything he ate. The place is dusty. You can see water stained where the roof leaks. I was told they check on everyone every 2 hours that did not happen at all. Also if a resident falls in their room there is no way to alert anyone. The food is disgusting and cheap and not healthy at all. They lost some of his clothes. Other people came in his room and actually took things. They don’t do any activities with them at all. I would never recommend this place to anyone

A mistake to put her there.

My Mom thinks she can get out of bed herself and go to bathroom. She can’t walk and falls. This resulted in 3 er trips and 2 hospitalizations in the 3 weeks she was in Saucon Valley Manor. She needed bed rails and bed alarms in order to be safe. Bed rails are not legal and staff said they wouldn’t be able to respond to the alarms. Owner was insisting they could take care of her but it was quite obvious she would continue to suffer injuries. She had a baseball size hematoma on forehead, 2 black eyes and face and neck badly bruised. I brought her home on hospice and hired staff at home. She needs constant supervision.

wouldn't recommend for individuals who are not completely independent.

[name removed] is pushy beyond belief. She doesn't advocate for her staff. She doesn't seem to listen to her staff. The activities woman does double duty as an aide and decorator. She has no patience for residents and takes things over for them rather than letting the resident to an activity for themselves in their own way. I've seen a side of the activity woman that is scary. Putting on a movie or a football game is not an activity. They lost personal items like clothing. Other residents were wearing my family members clothing. We provided a bed and chair alarm to sound an alert of my family member got out of bed and first they lost it and second they didn't turn it on.

Do not recommend

I would tell others to make sure that the staff are giving your loved ones the care that they need and not just leaving them to lay in bed. Make sure they are feeding them. They also hadn't done my husbands laundry, when I went in to visit he was in someone else clothes and his dirty laundry was laying in the closet .My husband also got sepsis while here. I do not recommend Saucon Valley Manor.

Tour of Saucon Valley Manor

I was not impressed by our tour with Saucon Valley Manor. The facility felt dingy and dark, especially in the hallways. In the memory care portion of the facility the residents had no outside space to go to so they were just stuck inside. It is cheap, but you get what you pay for. I wouldn't recommend them based on our tour experience.

I looked at the assisted living on the top floor and it was ok, but when I walked into the memory care it was horrible. It was very depressing and institutional and they did not have a good outside area. I think the residents are well cared for it just did not fit what we were looking for.
