This place sucks! The place wasn't ready to be moved in when I showed up for my move in scheduled date. The food doesn't taste good and they don't give you enough of it. The staff is good to work with, the managers aren't good.

Where to begin... my dad moved to Solstice Senior Living Rio Norte, El Paso a few months after my mom died. He was looking for a home that provided comfortable living, good food, and nice people. Wrong on all accounts. The management at Solstice Senior Living Rio Norte, El Paso bullies its residents, refuses to address problems of basic human needs (temperatures in my dad's apartment would exceed 85 degrees, with the air conditioner on, and told there was nothing wrong), along with inedible and either-overcooked or raw food, rarely anything in-between. As a result of my dad complaining and offering alternatives, his rental agreement was terminated while he was suffering from pneumonia. Thankfully, my dad had the ability to relocate, moved into a small house where he now lives alone and is much happier. Please do not move someone you love into Solstice Senior Living Rio Norte, El Paso.

This place would be wonderful if a few major changes happened. The manager of the facility could care less when a resident brings there concerns to him. He is retired on the job. The manager is confrontational and defends a bad position. The restaurant manager is also a poor manager. She will defend her horrible meals which are over cooked or raw. The residents are hopeful, they have a new part-time cook who is very good and the hope is he will replace her because she is NO CHEF. Sometimes she will put out a okay meal but not as often as they should. The portions are also very small, which is fine for small people, but larger men should have more food so that my parent doesn't go back to their room hungry. The bright light in the facility is [name removed]...he is wonderful and really cares about the residents. Some of the staff and ladies that clean the rooms are also caring. It is clean and well kept. They have lots of activities and do a good job for holidays. The biggest problem are the manager and the food lead cook. If these people were replaced it would be a fine facility.

This place needs to get shut down! They advertise as independent living, but there are people in there who need to be in nursing homes. But most likely due to greed, people are dying in this facility in a horrible manner. I have personally witnessed residents covered in there own feces who can’t even get themselves out of bed and have no way of cleaning themselves. Because this place is an independent living center, they have inadequate care. Some residents are confined to their room with no access to emergency services...but they pay there rent til they die a sad neglected death. After 7 pm anybody can come and go as they please...only a few cooks and two nursing aids on staff; no security or nurses ever on staff at this place. The majority of the residents need assisted care at minimum, but due to this company greed they keep them as long as they pays there bills, or taxpayers pay them. Don’t believe me? Stop by any day after 7 pm and talk with the residents yourself.

Daily chef-prepared meals from scratch? If frozen is "from scratch" then that is true. But still, the food is terrible for most of the time. "From pleasant housekeepers, to attentive servers at mealtime" - housekeepers are servers and servers are housekeepers. Nobody cares about what residents have to say - they and their families are asked for patience all the time. It used to be better but now it became a terrible place.

When residents move out, they do not rekey the apartment. They have mold in the apartments and all they do is bleach it, bleach does not kill mold. There is new management and they do not interact with the residents, in fact, they do not have management on site at night time. It is a scary place and there have been worse things that have happened, but they have not done anything about it.

The Gables at Guilford ??? Well here's how our visit went: Driving at a moderate speed on the entrance road, we were tailgated by someone in a big hurry. When I signaled to pull into a parking space in the "Visitors" lot the guy blew his horn at us. OK we said "he might have a medical emergency he's attending to...no problem". We walked toward the front entrance, saw him briskly walking toward the building, and passed his car in guess what...yep...the handicapped spaces. Our scheduled appointment was for 10:00AM on 2/17/2017 but you already know that and we walked in thru the entrance door at 10:04, walked up to the receptionist desk and were told that [removed] had a client with him and would be about 10 minutes...no problem. 15 minutes later, [removed] door opens up and out walks [removed] and the a**h**e that blew his horn at us and parked illegally in the handicapped spaces. Talk about shocked? Well it gets even better. The 2 of them walked by us and [removed[ said he'd be right back in about 10 minutes to give this guy the tour. OK 10 minutes. Shortly after that, hearing the conversation between my wife and I, which indicated our displeasure, the receptionist told us that this guy was a "walk-in" and she mentioned that he had come in at 9:50, which of course was a lie. She had no idea what transpired in the parking lot until we told her. That's about when her jaw started to quiver. We said "but we scheduled a 10:00AM appointment". I can't tell you how long after that we waited because when a person has been treated that badly, the sense of time is displaced with anger. But I do know this, still no sign of [removed] and we walked out the door at 10:40...20 minutes after [removed] took this guy on the tour. We are looking for a suitable place for my mom to live out however much time she has left, and at The Gables of Guilford???.....I wouldn't board my dog there.

I know people who live here and they constantly complain about the kitchen running out of food in the middle of a meal. They call me all the time telling me they got half a ham sandwich for dinner. They no longer drive and have no way to go outside the facility to obtain a decent meal. They pay thousands in rent a month and cant even get a hamburger for lunch. They should be investigated for abuse of the elderly while they continue to cut corners to fill their corporate pockets with money from our elderly. They should be ashamed of themselves..

This is a fantastic place I would give it 10 out of 10 stars if I could. The staff has been like family to Mom! A Wonderful retirement Community! ( I want you to know that Mom does not adjust to change well .... This has been fantastic for her. Always a friend to talk to and time alone when she wants it!

very disappointed. We were in apartment next to a 98 year old man who blasted his TV all hours of night . It took them a month to get him out and then only because he tried to start fights in the Atrium . I like to eat healthy and sometimes dont find anything on the menu that is healthy it does not seem that they mark the menu with what is high in salt , fat , and sodium as they say on the menu These people are all old and have health problems. and should eat healthy. The dryer was out for a month before replaced. The washer went out about 2 weeks when they replaced with a washer that seniors have a problem working. Dont they know seniors have a problem with new technology. It is supposed to be independent living but it seams like a nursing home . with walkers , wheel chairs and even worst people who have mental problems

If you are thinking of moving here, or moving a loved one here, invest in a security camera for your apartment, because there are no security cameras on the premises. apparently, it is not mandated by law (it should be), but consider that various people have keys - managers, maintenance, housekeeping - and there is thievery going on here. My parents were here for a couple of months, and many things were stolen. My parents did not feel safe here, and luckily were able to get away. Management is non-responsive at best, derogatory at worst.

My parents and I thought this place looked s sunny and cheerful, but my parents' experience here turned into anything but. Management says it can take 3 months for newcomers to feel comfortable and at home here. The is a lot of gossip. Some people never find their "clique," I saw, and heard, a lot of sadness from my parents and other residents. I don't think the management staff has any sort of educational background for how to deal with the elderly - their sensitivities and vulnerabilities, or for that matter, business integrity. The manager actually told me at the end of the month that my mother had not paid rent yet for that mont, and asked me if I could take care of it. i KNEW the manager had made an error, and after insisting that my mother HAD paid, he found where he had made his error. That should never have happened. Also, the place is not safe and secure. I heard many stories of people who were missing items from their rooms, who felt that people came into their apartments at night. There are no security cameras, and several and various people have keys to everyone's apartments. Please, if you want to place a loved one there, stay on top of things. And if you are considering going, don't burn bridges so that if you want to leave you have somewhere to go.
