I wouldn't recommend Solstice Senior Living at Lee's Summit, at least not right now. They are very slow to get things done. My mom had a bad experience. They didn't give her the emergency button for several days after moving in. Because of that she fell, was laying there for hours, and couldn't be reached. We couldn't get in because our fob didn't work, and neither could the fire department. While she was in the hospital from the fall, they apologized and they made sure to get us a working fob. For the first 5 days she was there, not one meal was delivered on time nor in the right way. I was staying with her during that time and I'd put the order in myself, but they still wouldn't get it to her on time. And if I had to leave, I couldn't trust that they would get her food to her. The quality of the food is fine. They seem to have activities posted, but the few times I went to check them out - there were hardly any participants, which isn't their fault. They've been redecorating massively and I know that's put some obstacles in the way for a couple weeks. Their communication is poor, I typically have to reach out to them first. I would just say overall - Solstice needs to make the place more secure, the residents should have their button and the security that the door will remain open during the day and closed at night. At one point, the door could be opened at night with a little force, but they've fixed the fob issue since then.

Our tour experience was just ok. The rooms looked like they needed to be updated. We got to try the food and it was not very good. The biggest turn off for my mom here was that the sales lady who we were working with was being very pushy about making a decision and she did not like that at all.

Make sure you check out every other option. Solstice is okay; but if your family needs any kind of help, and isn't totally independent - then Solstice may not be for them. For A Place for Mom: The lady who helped me with A Place for Mom was wonderful, and did a lot of following up with me and was very good. I'm definitely not dissatisfied with A Place for Mom.

I think once they're fully staffed again, it will be a good place. The management and staff are really nice and helpful. They're accommodating and proactive, and they do what they can. The facility itself is really nice. But they have staffing shortages, just like everywhere does right now. So the services / amenities / activities they advertise are not fully in effect right now. They're short on housekeeping staff. They have been running out of food consistently and are subsequently making substitutions that they don't necessarily notify they residents about. It's not wonderful, but not horrible. Again, I think when they're back to full staff and are fully up and running again, things will be much better.

The residents living here at Solstice Senior Living are super friendly and very pleasant. However the meals definitely need some improvement - it is very meat based so if you are vegetarian just forget it. It is also quite salty and you are only able to get food during a certain time frame - so if you overslept or have an appointment during that meal time then you have to wait until the next meal time. With some improvements perhaps we would recommend them to other families.

I was not a big fan of Solstice. I thought it was too cold feeling and it had a very modern atmosphere. It was just not the right fit for me.

I am not really happy with the activities that they have to offer at this community. They have activities like board games, and a pastor that comes in to speak with the residents. The meals are great but I just have certain dietary restrictions that makes it hard for me from time to time. This community is efficient, not luxurious but it is efficient. Solstice also does not have a good transportation system for doctor appointments and so forth. My previous community wouldn't hesitate to take us places; no matter the cost, distance or time of day. They would even wait outside until we were finished. At this age, we do have medical issues that need solving sometime. These things just sort of pop up, they aren't always planned out. I understand that each organization is different, but that is still something that is very important to me. It would be more convenient to be transported directly through my community, rather than having to call on an outside friend or family member.

In the 2000 still great dining. Now 2021 institutional! All departments chronically short staffed since 2017; placing undue burdens on residents. Sad!

We weren’t impressed with Solstice Senior Living at Sandy. The facility was a lot older, and the personal kitchens in the apartments were extremely small. That's not a huge deal, but we just dind’t like it overall as much as other places we looked at.

My mother has been a resident of Solstice for over 2 years. When she moved in meals and service were great, but after about 3 months there was a decline in service and meals. I contacted management and corporate both, the meals have not improved. Some meals they serve are corn dogs and hot dogs with spaghetti . Not what I call nutritional meal. Originally there were four servers, now they have two. It sometimes takes 2 hours to complete a meal. There have been times there is no coffee, no milk, no apple juice, no creamer, and no oatmeal when the building is across the street from a Walmart. The facility is very pleasant, with lovely flowers. When we first visited they had printed menus, and offered two full meals for your choice at lunch and dinner, like peppercorn tenderloin. Now you have an entree or a salad as your choice .

Our family had an in person experience and the tour was fine, but it just not a lively environment. The energy level was lower.

This community was still under construction. We did not really like this facility. It felt closed in and old and dingy. The tour guide was really good. It was kind of dull.

I would recommend examining your needs and make sure that you are getting what you need from the community. For me and my loved one the friendliness is perfect. If you want to be involved with things you can and if you don't you can no one pushes you . People are happy to talk and be among each other.

It was really hard to get a good feel from just a virtual tour. From what I could see, it seemed as though the apartments were very dark and dated. But the community itself looked quite promising.

It is supposed to be independent but a lot of the residents are not independent and need more care than they provide here. They seem to be understaffed, it takes forever to get our food. I have been here 7 months and they are supposed to clean my room once a week and they have only been here 4 times. Due to my experience so far, I would not recommend at this time.

The big issue for me is the food, and we can not go to the dining room to eat yet. The community is clean and neat and the staff is very friendly I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.

We thought it was okay, it just wasn't the right fit for our loved one. I would recommend being really clear on what your loved one needs and what the community can provide. The food was okay, sometimes bad, sometimes good. At times, they would miss her food delivery completely when they were delivering food during Covid restrictions. But I think if you're more on the independent living spectrum, it's actually a pretty good place. The staff was hit or miss, some were great and some weren't. But I know they had some changes in staff as well while we were there.

Friendly staff, residents and grounds were nice. Sort of unprepared for my visit...no brochures on hand, carpets somewhat dirty and entrance needed tp be swept.

Solstice at Sandy felt like more on an institutional environment. But the grounds were really nice, and they had some really nice outdoor spaces for events. I can see how for someone who’s more active and likes to be outdoors, this would be a great place. The people we spoke to on our tour were very pleasant. We were just looking for more of an apartment type environment with plenty of active residents out and about

I think the person living here has to be pretty independent. For instance, my loved one fell once and the staff wouldn't help her get up. And there's nobody there from 6 pm to 7 am. So if they need help, there's no one to help. If other residents asked for help, they discouraged the residents from helping as well. They told us things before move-in that ended up not being true. They assured us multiple times my loved one would have a walk-in shower, but she didn't. Which was kind of a safety issue. Most of the staff were pretty nice. They seemed to be a little understaffed. The manager wasn't super empathetic, and didn't always seem to have the residents' best interests in mind. They seemed to be concerned about keeping their costs down, which in a way I appreciate. But it seems that was their focus more than care. The food was inconsistent, sometimes it was good and other times it wasn't. I think things would have been a little different if not for Covid restrictions.
