Five Star Senior Living

The communication is lacking. I feel like they aren't very good at keeping up with the personal care. It's nice and clean, and the food is pretty good. They don't make sure he comes down for meals. They do have an alternate menu so if there is something he doesn't want he can order something else. We chose it because It's one of the cleaner places we saw. It also seemed to have more men than a lot of the other communities.

The activities are bingo, a couple games, there were some outings. She’s keeping busy. They provided activities. Mother said the food was good, the choices were good. I toured the place when she moved in. After she moved in they didn’t provide internet service. I felt the fees paid should have included internet. I want my mom in a place where she is receives the best care.

I really have no major complaints about them, and up until recently, I would have given them a 4. Due to recent events, I'm beginning to think this may not be the best situation for my loved one, who is still very mentally capable. However, I have confidence in them. The staff are very cooperative and nice, and I hope this works out. It's a great place, and it just might not be the right place for my loved one.

Jasmine offered us a great tour. She's quite savvy and answered all of our questions. Overall we thought their Dementia care cost was a bit expensive. The feel of the Dementia care division reminded me of an average mental ward tucked in the basement of a well appointed hospital.

They looked like a funeral home, and they had a smell when you walked in. It was very cold and depressing. The rooms were too small and they shared an adjoining bathroom. If you had dementia and didn't know where you were at it would be ok, but if you are aware, I think it's too cold and sad feeling.

Independent Living, but still far.

This place is great for those on the lower end of the care spectrum. I had a loved one who was here for quite a while as independent living, and they did a great job. However, when she started needing help and had to move to the assisted living things went downhill. You really had to stay on top of them to make sure they weren't just doing the bare minimum when it came to the care and services provided.

The staff is very considerate and very attentive, some are very kind and really decent. A few are disagreeable but get the job done. We chose them because they seemed very friendly and are in a convenient location for us. The food is very average, completely uninspired, it is ordinary. It's not foul, it's just canned food, canned soups tasteless soups, just ordinary and disappointing. The dining room staff has a tendency to rush people and start putting things away before people are done eating, which is annoying. The wine they serve is really cheap and not good, but it's nice that they serve wine. They keep it cleaned and the flowers on the table are a nice touch. The kitchen door area where people go in and out is not clean. The silverware and dishes are very worn. The place is quite shabby but is being remodeled now. The Staff really are genuinely nice. They take good care of her. I was disappointed, that I spent an hour cleaning her room. It took a while to get her settled, and I was disappointed by a lot of the thoughtless little things that go unnoticed, making sure that they are able to reach the things that are needed, or making sure she can get around her room.

Bev was so very nice and attentive! We enjoyed spending time with her and you could really feel her passion for the facilities. Seh greeted guests and was very knowledgeable. The public portions of the facilities looked aged/dated but the individual unit we saw was updated nicely. I believe this would not be a good fit though for my mother as we felt the age range was a little much for her.

Viewed the facility before. It was just okay. Didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling from the visit.

It's good, but we can't get anybody to look into her symptoms and they don't seem to be taking it seriously, at least not to my satisfaction. We don't think she is getting fluids as much as we had hoped, the people and the rooms are very nice. Sometimes she would ring the buzzer, and have to wait a long time. They make it seem like you can ask for something different or that you can eat what you want but, a woman asked for a hamburger and they were having tacos and they told her to just put a lot of ketchup on it. The charges for the extra care is too much.

Not active enough too small and far away

It truly does not matter how much or the location of a facility, it is all based on the quality of the people that work there. There are some awesome RNs and CNAs at the Montebello. There are also the not so great ones that truly should not work in a facility with seniors that need attention. My mother is in Skilled Nursing and my father is in an Independent living apartment. It is wonderful having them in the same facility and having individual care. But having said that, family still needs to be very hands on if they expect good care. Period.

It's an older place and there is just one big patio that looks out into the trees, but that is where the smokers go to smoke. There was nowhere there to walk. It's a really nice place but there is no outdoor space.

The front desk was not as welcoming as other places. The marketing person was very nice and informative.

Found it a little too large and impersonal. Had a very nice tour guide but did not like the property very much. Great dining room.

The communication between departments seems to be nonexistent. When my family member moved from one floor to another, no one seemed to know what was going on. The communication with the client (us) also seems to be nonexistent - you have no idea who to contact for what, and no one even knows which direction to point you in. Two days before our initial move-in, the Forum called us and told us that that they had a certain "caliber" of residents, and that our family member was not "up to that caliber" so they could not offer us a space. We were shocked, to say the least, and it took a lot of legwork to iron out the resulting mess. (Never did receive an apology, either.) Once there things are OK, and we do receive calls if there are any falls, changes in medication or health concerns so that part is OK but be prepared for no one person to really be in charge of your loved one.

Met with Patty June. Very homey, but kind of dreary. Smelled musty. Nice sized apt. View from rooms mostly parking lots. Not as convenient a location as some others for me and didn't offer anything unique that I couldn't find at a more convenient location.

We had been working with them to move Mom in after a rehab stay, but they decided at the last minute that she required more care than they were able to provide, due to a reason that I'm sure had already been discussed when we were placing her. This cancellation at the 11th hour created quite the emergency, and we feel it could have been handled better. The community itself looked nice enough, but we never moved Mom in.
