Five Star Senior Living

This did not seem to be for assisted living. It was gorgeous but not easily accessible. It seemed like it would be overwhelming or overyeilding to navigate the place.

You would think "Oh, that would be a beautiful place to live," but when you go inside there is pipes running along the ceiling and it's not as nice as you would have thought. The apartments themselves are cute but they are very tiny. We couldn't live that crammed up, plus we have two little Yorkies. We also heard that the elevators were a problem.

We briefly looked at the facility and looked at some of the literature. The units were just smaller than we were interested in, so we didn't pursue it further.

My mom has been at Morningside for a couple of weeks. She seems to be doing well. She is making friends, the nursing staff if doing a great job of keeping up with her meds. So far we are happy.

It was signifigantly more expensive than others we saw, with no breakfast on weekends. I mean it's ridiculous these people gotta eat on the weekends too. It's thousands more than another place we saw.

For the most part it's a very nice place but the cleanliness...for what they charge it was sub-par. They had different parts to it. They had a retirement community which is pretty nice I guess but the assisted living, where my mom was, wasn't that great. The biggest thing is when you walk in there is a smell. That's a real turn off.

We looked at this place because they have memory care but it just wasn't right. It's hard to explain but we didn't feel at peace leaving my mother there. It's nothing against the community, it's just not the right place. So many of them have that smell to them. It wasn't horrible, It just wasn't as good as some other places we saw.

They were okay. I looked at them but they never followed up or anything so they became excluded because the never followed up with me.

It was okay, they were just getting off of quarantine because of a gi thing going around. I didn't see anyone in the halls and then they said there was a waiting list for the dementia unit and she would stay in assisted living until a room became available, but who was going to take care of her in assisted living? She did walk me through the dementia unit and there was one elderly lady laying on her bed in the dark with an aid standing by the door, I didn't get a good feeling from it.

It was nice and it was our second choice. We liked the facility, we did go over there and eat a meal and the food was good that day, the cleanliness... I just liked it over the other ones, it was a little less expensive. I didn't like that there wasn't her own little apartment with a living room, a bathroom and a kitchinette, it wasn't as much like home.

I was not pleased, it was kind of a cool atmosphere, as a matter of fact, I shared with the one in Gastonia that I could have stood in the hallways with a shot gun and fired down the hall and not hit anybody. That's scary when you see a lack of socialization like that, all the doors closed, no doors open, not a friendly, outgoing place although the staff seemed to be friendly and outgoing, they just didn't ahve a resident group that factored into that.

We are concerned over the exposure to Route 26 traffic noise, but it was hard to assess since there was a crew working just off the highway cutting trees or whatever, making noise. Cost was fairly high compared to most of the others. We both liked the intimate setting and low population -- individual acre should be quite good. Room layouts and size were very good. Room size not bad, but we're not sure how companion living would work. It appeared like it was not particularly suitable for walks.

They had a bad reputation. We've talked to several people who had their loved ones at The Gardens and had to move them. When I brought this up to them they said they're under new management but you know how that goes. The tour was very nice and very professional but we still weren't sure.

We moved mom because they didn't have room for her and she needed to be in a memory care unit. They changed ownership there in the last 6 to 9 months and I really noticed a decline. When your main people in charge leave a community something's not clicking right, I noticed it wasn't as clean, the staff was pretty good but their food wasn't that great. She kept trying to get out of riverwalk and they're right by the state road so they really felt responsible. It was acceptable but when they changed ownership and the main staff people in all the departments were gradually leaving I just don't think things ran as well. Before the management would check up and see how things were going, I never even met the new people and they didn't keep up with the cleaning.

Friendly staff, clean, large cafeteria, watch out for the residents (queuing to take meds, sign-out if they leave), activites, transportation to Doctor and shopping. The apartments/kitchen area and storage smaller than i hoped.

Looks nice with great landscaping and shaded outside area. No patio or decks on apartments.

I originally chose Morningside of Concord for my mother because I was told at the time it was the only home offering a sliding scale but I've since learned that they are NOT the only ones who do that, so I'm not happy about that. They also chose to move her from assisted living to a senior care situation without consulting me, and I'm my mother's power-of-attorney. Then I got a $9500 bill after they didn't bother to clear the check that I sent them.

Want to relook at memory care, not to sure and mom wants to look.

Julie was full of energy and willing to chat and share lots of good information regarding the memory care unit, and the Morningside at Bellgrade overall. Upon arrival, strong pee smell was noted, but when we left and more people were around, the odor was gone. In the memory care unit, some residents were in the activity room, one sleeping, one visiting with family, one hanging out, and one coloring. The Montessori method for activities, and the containers for each resident were pointed out to me. One resident was walking without her walker, and we got someone to help her find her walker. Didn't see staff interacting with residents, wish I could have seen that. Closets are kept locked so residents stay out of each other's stuff. Other facilities have taken closet doors off for safety. Interesting how different facilities deal with those things.
