This is a wonderful place place to look at. It's clean, no fowl smell. Well kept. Staff member has a good relationship with Residents. Staff members care a lot about keeping Resident happy. There was one thing I noticed whenever I visit with my friend to see her mom. The staff does their very best, but in my opinion they are overworked, and Management doesn't seem to care, and that's a shame because they are just exceptional.

Good Activities but Lacking Care

They were alright. They have a very good activities program but their care was a little lacking for our liking. They do have a memory care portion but we had already moved him out by the time we would have considered it, and we had some issues that we weren't willing to go back to.

No Longer A Great Place for Your Loved One

This was a wonderful place when I first brought my mom here a few years ago. But the place has deteriorated and the staff is leaving for other jobs. A company called Frontier has taken over and it is clear they only care about money. They have allowed the place to become shabby and the staff is clearly demoralized

Not impressed with management

I’ve had my loved one in Dorset for a few months. Since moving in, I’ve seen the executive director 2 times. I visit almost everyday. This is a problem. When I call, she doesn’t answer and I can’t leave voice messages. If I need the nurse I can usually reach her but she is out of sight too. Who’s running this place? The care staff is good, but not management. It’s frustrating.

My Loved One Deserved More

We were oversold on levels of care in a vulnerable time. The risk that we took everyday in caring for our loved one was horrible due to low staffing. I would never recommend the community to others. The caregivers are very sweet and very short staff. The administration is trash and they oversell what the care staff can handle due to the lack of adequate staffing. There is poor internal communication. Our observation is that the caregivers have no respect for administration and the administration has no respect for the care staff. There was never a working vehicle to be able to take residents to doctor appointments while my loved one was here. The activities director was decent at trying to get the residents engaged in activities. However, there were times that I heard from residents didn't know what they were watching. I wish the community would focus on the quality of care instead of quantity of residents. There were times that the residents would wait more than 30 minutes to get assistance after pushing the call button.

Not recommended

When you first walk in, this facility looks ok. But it's not. I'm here often and I've seen things that aren't acceptable. I'm giving this review so that people can be aware and to help those who have loved one's here but may not visit often to know these things. I expected better. Money/items have come up missing, especially from residents who are unable to realize it and can't advocate for themselves. My loved one is very independent and gets around well, so she can do a lot of things for herself. My worry is for those who cannot. This place is worse than a nursing home. Housekeeping isn't being done. I see that regularly. It breaks my heart to see some of these residents' rooms. I've spoken to other residents who have said they're having issues also. I've heard that some residents aren't being bathed regularly or even often. The meals are very small portions and don't seem like full meals. I don't see fruits and vegetables often, when I do they are very small portions. I supplement my loved one's food regularly, out of pocket. Just this weekend, a staff member purchased and brought in donuts for the residents. I've tried to call to discuss issues on a few occasions. No one ever answers. I have to physically go there and find someone to ask in person. Either way, nothing gets done. There are no activities being done here, except for bingo occasionally. I don't know what's going on here, but something needs done. We've been hoping for improvement. I'm looking into moving my loved one to a better place. But I still felt like I needed to leave this feedback in hopes of helping others, current residents and future residents. I would not recommend this facility to friends and family.

Tour experience

We toured with The Reserve at Katy and we were not very impressed. The facility was older and needed updates. It just did not seem to be well cared for. We were looking for something newer that was bright and cheery and that was not what we found here.

Don't walk, but run away

Don't ever put anyone there that you love. We are moving our loved one out on Saturday. Within a month of being here, we received a call that they had a scabies outbreak in memory care. Within one week from the announcement, my mom had caught them and it was transferred to her from the caregivers. The same day I went to visit her and I was told by a caregiver that she was the only one there for 17 residents. The caregiver also mentioned that she didn't know if there was any help coming in to relieve her. I texted the director who was unware of the entire situation and if I wouldn't have texted her, she wouldn't have known.

Understaffed

They are very understaffed. My dad did not get good care there at all. The place always smelled. Plus, when my dad passed away, they shorted my mom money that was due to her. Find somewhere else!

My tour review

This community was not as good as the other communities that I looked at and was the last on our list. It just did not have the vibe that we were looking for for our loved one.

No. Noisy street with cars passing through to get to freeway. Still repairing apartments and areas due to freeze. Carpets very dirty. Not sure of the reason but they spoke to me at a table outside first. Saw bins of linens or trash at front area where I walked up. Saw trash bags in another area in facility.

Look Somewhere Else

Right after my loved one moved in the community went on lock down. The community was telling us they would go around and speak to the residents and it wasn't being done as often as they said. I would say not to go there to my friends. We ended up moving my loved one out of this community. The activities director was supposed to be going around and doing individual activities; however this started right before we moved my loved one out.

Made Me Feel Very Confinded

I did not like this community at all. First of all, you had to buzz in which is a nice security feature but the amount of time that we had to wait was a little more than I cared for. It is not a very big community very small and confined The resident's rooms appeared very small in size.

Very Disappointed

We paid $[removed] to get my father into Dorcet Place. He has Alheimers, their nighttime staff is not trained to handle this disease, she just calls the police when they dont do as ordered. We were asked to pick him up after 17 days & refunded nothing so we could care for him to be at home while they keep our money. When we arrived to pick him up the staff member was very aggressive with us. If this was her approach with him, of course he was aggressive. They will not give us corporate number & have said they will do it for the financial end refund. I am contacting an attorney but no family should have to worry when they entrust their family member to a trained facility. I have no complaints on the day staffs care. But its a 24 hour a day care. They need staff to handle both men & women with Alheimers.

Formerly Colonial Oaks Memory Care

The Reserve at Braeswood was formerly known as Colonial Oaks Memory Care. The name change ensued for unknown reasons. The address is the same as Colonial Oaks Memory Care. The nursing director and Executive director may have changed if this is truly another facility with different management. The activity director and sales/marketing team are very professional and courteous. Residents received the COVID-19 vaccine quickly with family permission.

Care at Colonial Oaks

My mom was a resident for about 3 months, my father had to remove her and bring her home due to the medical staff is not educated to take care of a person with diabetes. we were told Colonial Oaks would provide a diabetic diet and had a an RN on staff. maybe there was but we never saw her. My Dad went to visit my mom everyday and stayed 5-7 hrs each day. My Dad is 87 yrs old and he caught the staff medicating my mom incorrectly!! if you have a loved one there I would check their medication and diet, especially if thye are diabetic. The staff was very nice to my Mom. Its not their fault they are not trained or that the Director and asst. director said they would assist my mom's needs.

Would NOT recommend

Our experience with Brookdale North West 122nd Street was a very poor one. We had my loved one evaluated, and they told us they'd be able to handle all of her care needs and she'd be a great fit. A few weeks later they are telling us she is disruptive and they are kicking her out of the community. Based on our experience I would NOT recommend this community.
