We like it so far.

We like it so far. People are friendly. They keep it clean, all the standard stuff. I would give them a four out of five so far. We are pretty happy with it.

bad first impression.

I was irritated at Sterling House of Oklahoma City North initially. We signed the contract in June. I was under the impression we wouldn't have to pay until August. We ended up getting a bill before I thought we would. It just got us off to a bad start. They didn't work with us and we got the run around. Very bad first impression. Grandma does like the room. They loaned us furniture which I thought was helpful while we were waiting to get her set up. However the room was not fully set up right when we got there with Grandma so that was disappointing. Grandma enjoys the food there. Overall we like the place but we did get a bad first impression.

We were searching for the right place for our mom and had very little time to transition her from the hospital. Sterling House assisted us within a very short window. They offered comfort when our mom needed it most. Our mom was pleased with the smaller environment. She was very complimentary of the staff and said the food was excellent.

Good place, overall

Overall I think they do a good job at Sterling House of Oklahoma City. The facility itself is well kept and clean, and the aide staff are friendly and helpful. It has been a tough adjustment for my loved one, but overall I think Sterling House has handled things well. I do think the nursing director could be more personable, she has been hard to work with in regards to getting things set up with my loved ones current doctors.

very happy

They have done exceptionally well in making my mom feel welcome and comfortable. They have done a really good job getting her involved and engaged, bringing her out for activities, making sure she has others to dine with, wtc. Overall I am very happy with Sterling House of Oklahoma City North, and so is mom.

Nice place, no one available over the weekend when we needed them.

This was a nice place, and we liked it. It was clean and lovely, but when it came down to it. The hospital released my loved one over the weekend and we needed to find somewhere for him to go. Colonial Oaks didn't answer the phone, I wasn't able to get in touch with anyone. This is a 24/7 industry, if something happens with a resident, you can't always wait until Monday.

It was very good. I have a friend whose mother is there and she's very happy. That's why I went to look at it for my father. It's a larger place - larger than the place my father is now.

Tour of The Reserve

I toured The Reserve at Katy and it was an okay experience. The staff were nice, but I didn't like how the rooms were setup. The building itself was also a bit older. We chose another community because we were looking for something a bit newer.

Low turn over rate of staff

The staff is really strong here. There is a bunch of administration that has over 15 years at the facility. There is also a very low turn over rate. The only problem I have is that the facility is smaller and the room sizes are a lot smaller. It's a really great community and they back up what they promise in the quality of care. I just needed more space for my parents and their nurse. I would recommend this facility under normal circumstances.

Good Food, Care, and Acitivities

The cost is really good because we got a discount, $1000 off for the first 18 months so that was really enticing. As far as I know they have pretty good activities. One thing that my dad really likes is that they take them on drives, sight seeing around the city. The last couple of time I've been there that hasn't been on the schedule so it would be nice if they would reinstate that. It's a secure facility which is best for my dad because he was kind of wandering off. There are alarms on the door so you can't just walk out. He's doing great there. The only concern we have is the billing. They've gotten that all mixed up but the care and stuff seems to be really good. He's always clean and they have a salon there so they cut his hair. The food it good. It has a lot of flavor.

Opportunities to Improve the Resident Experience

At this time, my loved one is not very happy at the facility. They often complains about the evening staff and the decline in the quality of food/meals. They say that a lot of staff that were there in October are now gone.

Understaffed

Memory care is understaffed, no or little stimulation or activities for memory care residents. Most staff spends their time on their phone and there is very high rotation. Don’t do laundry very often. And yes there was a scabies outbreak.

My tour review

This was a good community it was just that our loved one needed to be in memory care. We did not realize this and my loved one just needed more one on one care. There was nothing wrong with the community at all she just needed that extra assistance and attention.

Great staff but very understaffed.

I would advise others to find another place, simply because for the amount you're going to pay for the services, you're not always receiving those services. The number one issue is the call response time. From the time you push the call button or pull the string to someone actually coming to help is probably averaging an hour to an hour and a half. So we're paying all this money for level five care for my dad who needs transfer assistance, and my mom ended up having to learn how to do it has been doing it herself. We're not unhappy with the staff. The staff is amazing. They're very sweet and kind. They just don't have enough of them, and the turnover is super high. There will be times when the cook is helping with personal care, things like that, because they're so understaffed. That's really the main issue.

Feces on counter

I would want others to know that I was told 3 days ago since august my mom takes 1 bath every 3 weeks, she is in memory care. She has now been transported via ambulance to the hospital with C Diff. Not only are they not cleaning for covid, but now my mom has a potentially deadly disease caused by the transfer of human feces based on unclean surfaces. So do not send your loved ones here.

Recent Reviews Matter the Most--Things Change

At first Colonial Oaks was seemingly the best place for my family member. Then about 18 months ago came a change in management, a new director, what some of the staff said were employee benefit reductions, and "best" slid into an area closer to "below average." There were a couple of mix-ups with medicine, what seemed like a reduction of staff members on duty at times, particularly on weekends, along with issues on how some staff members treated my family member. Room cleanliness tracked downhill over the last year and almost no lasting improvement even after assurances from management. We have read on line reviews of many facilities over the last few years. If we have learned one thing, current reviews matter the most.

I toured this community

I toured this community for my mom. The staff was nice and helpful with my questions. It was clean and kept up good but just felt it wasn't as clean as the others I have toured. It seemed disorganized. We had to choose another community.
