Would recommend for family member who is older and doesn't require a lot of acitivties or socialization.

Depending on your loved one's needs, I would be cautious. If they're fairly social and want to make friends, this is not a good place. I think it's important to match the facility with the census of the people in that facility. For instance, their activities were lackluster, and I was not impressed. They had people who couldn't talk or were comatose sitting in on trivia questions. So activities were not necessarily matched to the ability of the residents. The staff were mostly very friendly and tried their hardest, although you always have one here and there that weren't. My loved one said the food was good, with a good selection, and he's a pretty picky eater. Overall it's a nice facility. But I think if you're going to be paying that much money, you'd better have a a lot more activities, and ones that are better suited for residents of different abilities. And if you have a loved one who is very active and alert, I would double check the census of the people there.

Overall we're happy with Aegis of Granda Hills.

Nobody's perfect, but we're happy with them. They seem attentive to our loved one. I do feel like you need to be on top of things. When I'm not visiting as often, I feel like I start noticing things that need to be addressed. But I think that's the case with any care place. Wherever you choose, it's important for the families to be involved. When we've had concerns, they generally do a good job of addressing them. I think they could do a little better with activities. But overall, my loved one seems quite happy there, and she adjusted well within a couple of weeks or so.

Our experience with Aegis

We chose Aegis of Kirkland because it was what my dad wanted. The rooms at the facility were small, private rooms. I think the food could use improvement, they could have more variety and what they advertised was not accurate. We were here during covid, but I would tell others to make sure to tour and try the food before moving your loved one in here.

Review for Aegis of Ventura

As with most facilities, they are often short staffed with caregivers. Response time can vary from a rare 5 minutes to a common 20-30 minutes or longer. Aegis invested in an elaborate camera system without getting input from the residents. Within a year, there have been 3 head managers. The current one [name removed] isn't a good communicator/listener. In general the staff is caring, but higher up the ladder you go, the less competent and caring they seem (head of nursing, head of caregivers). The general doctor associated with Aegis who does in house visits isn't very good but is good about writing Rx.

Aegis of Pleasant Hill

not a good fit for my dad, the place was problematic from my dad, but is may be a good fit for other people. I would say beautiful court yard for sitting or walking around in. Staff made a good effort to integrate my dad into the community, but it was too regimented for him given his state of dementia. He ended up being more confused and having altercations with a couple of the caregivers. He is doing much better now in a board and care home.

Satisfied

The staff is friendly and very kind to my mom. The facility is well located. The food is very good, and that's very important to people who live there. There are plenty of activities and mom is encouraged to participate. The facility is dated and small. It's more expensive than most others that we looked at. There is no air conditioning, although they do encourage portable AC, which we did, but mom has trouble remembering to use it. They have a very liberal policy with respect to assisted living vs memory care. That's why we chose it. Overall we are satisfied, but if they want to move her to memory care we would definitely move her to a nicer place

We need more

If you have a parent or relative that does nor have need of intuitive care this place is fine. But we moved my father in after the death of my Mom and he's not adjusting at all. He barely eats and is losing weight. He needs some basic care and attention, like making sure his hearing aids are correctly placed in the charger or his dentures are cleaned and soaking. Basic attention to needs he is too depressed to do. Complaining to directors doesn't result in any change by care managers. They don't see it or do it. Disappointed.

The staff is all very nice but I found the pricing to be very vague. In the memory side I feel like they don’t have enough staff to toilet the residents and there is no bathroom that they can use outside of their rooms and all rooms are locked. They do engage with residents but not enough to toilet my husband on a daily schedule. My husband does not like to be lead around he needs a slow and steady and patience to get dressed and cleaned. Even if they had an extra pair of hands to just help with the ADL’s all day I would be happy. Like I said the staff is very nice and helpful.

Expensive but better than most. If you can afford it, I recommend it

Aegis is better than most but still has problems. Aegis, as with all the facilities I've stayed at, is lacking in being adequately staffed . . . and the staff being adequately trained. The administration seems to have holes too.

Aegis Review

Much of the food was canned, tasteless, overcooked. My heart broke for my husband who had to eat it. The caregivers were excellent and when [name removed] was actively dying they were exceptional. The problem was communication: too little, too late, if ever. Staff turnover was astounding. Clearly Aegis is all about profit: bloated salaries for those at the top doing not much and peanuts for those at the bottom doing the work, caring for the "family". Ha! What a joke. When [name removed] needed round the clock care, the monthly fees went to $[removed] per month. A visit from his son with the manager reduced it to $[removed] all inclusive. Please explain how, from a business standpoint, that works. A lovely facility. However, I will not recommend. What is painfully clear is how critically important an advocate is. I can only imagine what [name removed]'s care would have been like if I hadn't been screaming all the time; I ached for the poor souls who have no family, no visitors, no voice. I expect that this is true everywhere. It was a painful, heartbreaking experience for both of us. My tolerance was, accordingly, low. However, he was safe, which was what it was all about. They, and the hospice team, were wonderful during his final days.

Our families experience

Overall our families experience was good, sometimes the care was questionable - on the memory care side we felt at times our loved one and the other residents could have a little more supervision. When it came to the meals they were great - our loved one did not eat certain proteins so they were very flexible with them and would change up their meals if needed. We did see a few activities they would have movie nights and different puzzle games.

Not worth the money

There are some staff who are very good and some staff who are very bad, and you never know what you will get. They have a low response rate to the call button, you can wait for 2 hours. When I had an emergency, I would just call the front desk. They could've improved on a lot during my stay. Sometimes they ran out thing for weeks, like black tea and regular sugar. They were full of chemical substitutes, but I did not want those.

tour of Aegis Gardens

we toured Aegis Gardens and we didn't think it was a good fit for my loved one. they seemed to be culturally one sided and it was located further away from family. we chose another community because Aegis Gardens did not have what we were looking for.

Tour of Aegis Lodge

I did not feel like I got the whole tour with Aegis Lodge. We felt that the facility was too big and so the care would not be as personalized as we were looking for. It is also very expensive.
