Pleasant Tour

I had a nice experience with my tour of this community. Everyone was nice, and kind to my family, and I. The community was nice, and clean from what I saw. The staff I met was nice, and helpful. They answered my questions, and my tour was a good one overall.

Great Place

Whitney Place at Westborough was a very nice and clean community that we toured. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We chose another community that was a better match for our needs.

Cheerful Place

Whitney Place at Natick is a cheerful and clean community. The staff is friendly and caring and seem to be attentive to his care needs. I have not yet dined at the community, but the meals that they provide seem average, they do not offer the variety my father in law had at the last community. There are activities that the staff encourages the residents to participate in. The room where he resides seems comfortable enough for him. I would recommend Whitney Place at Natick to friends and family.

Lovely Place!!

I had recently had a tour of this place for my mom and I was pleased with the experience I had. The staff where all very kind and did a great job presenting the the community to my mother and I. The only thing I did not think would work for my mom was the structure of the building. There was lots of windy hallways and lots of turns that I know she would get lost in. I think that would freak her out with her memory loss.

Lovely Staff

My mother has recently made the move into this community and so far we have no complaints of how things are going for her. The property is clean and they have a great activity program that I am hoping she gets involved in when she feels up to it. The only complaint that she has seems to have is the meals. They need some improvement in the quality and taste.

A nice place

The staff have been great at taking care of my loved one. They encourage them to participate in the many daily activities they offer. There are two different dining rooms in the community. The food and the service in the memory care dining room is not quite as good as in the other one. They do not offer a lockdown area outside for the memory care residents. The community is clean and I would recommend taking a look at this community.

Care needs some improvement but social aspects of community are great!

I'm not sure if they are short staffed,I hired additional care because I wasn't satisfied with the care my mother was getting. We are still working out some issues, I was upset to find that they did not follow through with things this weekend. Otherwise the facility is awesome and they have lots of activities. There is always something going on and it gets her engaged. She went from being alone in her apartment to now joining in on all the social aspects of the community. She says the people are all very nice as well.

Great Value for the cost

Whitney Place is good for people with mid dementia and can still function on their own. Staff is hands off and not overly attentive. Sometimes they argue with the residents. Duties are assigned and followed per their role. For example, there is an Activities person who does social groups, painting, singing, etc. The care taking staff do not participate in activities, rather they do daily care and serve the food. Care Coordinator is fantastic and keeps a pulse on what is going on.

Beware of outrageous assessment fee and do not let anyone pressure you into anything.

Watch out for [name removed]the salesperson and [name removed]who is no longer there. $[fee removed]for 6 days robbery!!!! Want to go to state make complaint. They have nerve to send out another invoice! Three other places did not charge an assessment fee! Everyone I told was shocked. It's terrible these places rob elderly people when they are at the end of their life. [name removed] is a typical salesman, pressuring a person into a huge expense and trying to make the right decision for a life changing situation. When they choose to put you in for a 30 day trial opt out! If you do a 30 day trial make sure you put in writing your 30 day notice of termination so they don't get another months rent out of you when not living there. Plus make sure billing is aware of your termination date.

Our Experience

My loved one was previously a resident at Beaumont and the experience was terrible. Her room was dark, dingy and confined. It was often dirty, where the staff left used gloves on the floor and never even picked them up upon their return. Staff stepped over things dropped on the floor. More than once, my feet were sticking to the floor in her room. When I mentioned it to the staff they just kind of shrugged it off. The poor woman sharing the room needed help to get to the bathroom. The staff regularly ignored her and once I timed them to over a half hour before assisting. They were understaffed the entire time. One of the family members of one of the other patients said, "if this is a five star facility, imagine how bad the others must be."

Lack of staff, high turnover, Safety issues

My parent stayed on the memory care floor for over a year. As she declined, we noticed her care dropped also. She wasn't bathed, She ran out of clothes and her laundry was piled high and on one occasion at around 8:30 a.m., I found her soaking wet in pajamas and a dark room. This is after breakfast! Did they forget about her? We also noticed that the CNA's would sit behind the desk and the residents would be down the hall in the lounge watching something on TV. Their activity calendar was not followed at all. Occasionally, a new activity staff member would show up, but the turnover was ridiculous, so they never lasted. We moved her out and she has been at an amazing facility for the past year and they are amazing. It's like night and day. I also found out though, through a staff member that actually also works at this place and already knew my mother, that she fell often at Whitney and it was never recorded, not was I notified. Disturbing. Be wary.

Off to a Bad Start

My 89 year old mother just moved in about a month ago from Fox Hill, an independent living facility. So far, not so good. We may have made a bad choice. - My mother desperately still wants to move into a family home. - I can't even get a phone in her room. It is very difficult to get anyone to pick up on the Broadmoor floor, so she is feeling very isolated from her kids and grandkids. - The sales person - [name removed]- has been writing nasty emails behind my back as I try to help my Mom ease into her new life.

Completely understaffed

Completely understaffed. I am repeatedly told that the staff does not have time. For example, Visiting hours are Wednesday and Friday for 15 minutes from 1:00-3:00 pm. The reason? They don’t have staff to walk patients down. There is only 1 staff person monitoring guests regardless of how many visitors. (And if patients aren’t with family- what are staff doing inside?????). No weekend visits allowed. They seem to think this is ok that working people cannot visit their loved ones. And 15 minutes? I am so sad.

"A wolf in sheep's clothing"

In the 4 years my mother was a resident at Whitney Place Westboro the care and food went down-hill considerably. Most (not all) of the aids are very task oriented and not compassionate. Care NOT resident based! In my opinion the staff is not adequately trained to understand dementia and the varied ways it affects people. Don't let the fancy outward appearance of the facility fool you. Care, communication and compassion are greatly lacking. Management staff changing constantly.
