I would say not to go there for others. The administrative staff are not open, truthful, they don't keep you up-to-date on what is going on. The administrator has not taken proper COVID precautions for herself. The top two administrators are not friendly at all. The nursing staff is great to work with.

There are a lot of issues here. The staff doesn't seem to be getting all of the training they need. There is some block in the system somewhere. It is my sense that it's very disorganized. There was a change in ownership recently, and most of the key positions, the executive director and such, are new, and that is a big part of the problem. I feel like if I hadn't been there as often as I am there would have been a lot of things that went unnoticed. When I bring things up they give me the appropriate answer that they think I want to hear, but afterwards I either don't see the change, or whoever has been talked to and had to make a change gives me attitude. They put too much responsibility on me to take care of things, like they will call me when he is agitated to calm him down but they don't want to keep me in the chain of command when it comes to keeping me informed. I shouldn't have to ask them to mop, or why other things haven't been done. Things go missing, I know they aren't responsible for them, but when I bring them up, I just get a blank look. I would say ask a lot of questions before you go here, and just hang out, I know nobody thinks that they have the time for that, but do it anyway. There was a lot of turnover here. I feel that I got persuaded verbally, that the care would be so much more hands on and personal than it turned out to be. They also told me that they would have many stimulating activities, and that didn't really turn out to be the case either. They would have things on the activities calendar that didn't match what they were doing that day, and the same for the food, it wouldn't match what they were actually eating. The food was about average, maybe a three, not terrible, but not great either.

I moved my mother from assisted living to Emeritus, which is a memory care facility. They advertise that as their forte adn she got more simulation and interaction in assisted living than she even comes close to at Emeritus and the price was $1700 less a month so we're paying for things that we're not getting. The people are like ones you'd encounter in an asylum. One of them came into my mother's room and spit on her cat. It's distressing for my mother that some of the people cry all the time. Theft has been a problem even though everything she has, has her name on it. Once we moved in, it was not as advertised.

Maybe their Assisted Living side is OK, BUT their Memory Care has been absolutely terrible for my loved one. He comes up with bruises all the time. He exhibits 'typical' late stage dementia/Alzheimer's behavior that they have now told us after just a few months they are "not equipped" to handle. However, we explained my dad's condition before choosing them and of course they said everything would be 'great', they had no problems with his wandering, incontinence, impatience, etc. But, now, they "can't handle" it. He "escaped" from their "Secure" Memory Care Unit right through their front door entrance. Numerous issues, poor management, frequent turnovers in staff, un-trained staff, understaffed, etc. - at least for the "Memory Care" Unit, which maybe should be called the "Forgetful Seniors" unit, because they can't deal with true Dementia/Alzheimer's victims.

My mother has advanced dementia and was a resident of Christian City on the dementia unit for two years. On 10-24 the staff called 911 to report that a fellow resident sexually assaulted my mother. The assailant had blood on his hands from the assault that was witnessed by staff and the police. My mother was transported to Grady hospital for evaluation and had a rape kit performed. There was blood in her diaper when the doctor removed it to perform the examination. Police are investigating the incident. It has come to my attention that there have been numerous incidents at this facility that have allegedly resulted in injury and death of patients. What I thought was a safe place, where my mother would receive quality care has turned into a nightmare.

Felt very sneaky in that they were awesome in the Introduction part however once my father was in, it all went downhill. Lack of leadership, communication & empathy. While father was in hospital for 3 weeks, they let his clothes & dishes mold. I got sick from breathing that in looking for his wallet. They were friendly until you noticed something they could have done & didn't & when asked, they turned hostel. Wouldn't return messages. Father needed more care so they evicted then wouldn't take 10 minutes with him to schedule for a moving company to move his things. He has no phone & wouldn't use the lobby phone. The receptionist and his nurse were great, but the office staff were awful. They are corporate people. They do not help their tenants & push everything on the emergency contact when 10 mins of their time would have him out w/in eviction time. He is own person/POA & they threw light bulbs in a packing box which broke. Luckily I removed it safely. Was not notified he was still there 2 months later. As for expenses, this isn't New York. A hotel room w/an extra closet shouldn't cost that much. Wifi or internet should be included. Father is now in a nursing home. His wallet is either stolen or he threw it in the garbage. They stole his 3 bed pads & 2 sets of sheets I wrote his name on. Half his shirts are missing.

These pictures are NOT the Baldwin GA location. Baldwin isn't as nice as these pictures. Extremely under staffed. They shouldn't take new patients if they can't properly take care of the ones they have. Literally waited 25 minutes for someone to respond to call button. Went to nurse station for help nobody was there. I waited 10 minutes, no one showed up, went back to mom's room. No nurses/techs in hallways. Handrails and doors need to be wiped down daily. Carpet needs to be vacuumed at least twice daily. Patients room floors need to be mopped daily. There are several wonderful staff members but they need help. They can't do it all 24/7. The facility has the potential to be a great place but whoever is overseeing it needs to push the corporate office to get the help it needs. A simple change like hiring a couple individuals to wipe down, vacuum and mop would go a long way. Right now the Baldwin location would make a good news story on assisted living gone wrong. Very sad ??

Communication is seriously lacking, no resolutions are being offered, the contract is a joke, & no apologies have been given for passing along false info. The dining room is tended to, to a point. Tables look clean. There was pee on the floor & no effort was made to disinfect afterwards (dad's catheter wasn't hooked properly & leaked in the floor plus wheelchair, & they wouldn't clean the wheelchair wheel either after they used paper towels on the floor). Those serving food don't have on hair nets or hair restrained. There are new stains on his floor in his room & there is mold/maybe poop under his wheelchair cushion. I notified the nurse & asked to check for skin rash on his back cause he was soaked in pee when I took him to a doctor's appointment. Had no time to redress him. They have not cleaned his chair or even addressed it with him. With the staff they'll talk to you, however if it has to do with their job, suddenly they're busy. I spoke with [name removed] in person, on the phone & sent an e-mail, per the contract, & he wants me to speak with the head of the department with the issues. No resolutions. The contract's incomplete, missing a page, & took 3 months to get the contract in an e-mail. I am not the Power of Attorney or legal guardian, made this known in the 3 hours I was there filling out what I could, & let them make a copy of the advance directive, proving I only represent in the instance he can't speak for himself. The receptionist, [name removed] , has been telling doctor's offices that I'm the guardian. When confronted, she only said, "generally family is the POA". No apologies for giving false info. After I told her all medical questions/ paperwork go through dad, she still insists I fill that out for him & tries to send it to me in an e-mail. That's illegal. I was not notified my father needed a follow-up appointment after his last hospital visit UNTIL 20 days after his discharge. It was the hospital that called me. Legacy claims I'm supposed to make the appointment, ok fine, then why didn't anybody call me so I could make one. No response & it's not in the contract. With the quality of care they're not explaining to him, physical therapy can help with his incontinence if he tries. A catheter doesn't stop therapy, they can adjust to his needs. They're not reassessing his situation so he could possibly afford his room. They moved him from a care level 3 to a care level 5 just to get more money. He could stay longer if he can afford it but they don't look at it that way. He's frustrated cause they don't tell him what's going on. With the meals It looks pretty healthy although canned peaches aren't exactly what I would call dessert but ok. For activities [name removed] is a 50 something yr old woman & is the only one who drives the bus for "scheduled transportation services". She will schedule lunch outings with those who sign up. I haven't heard of any trips to Walmart or even walk across the parking with them to CVS. She has no nursing experience & no nurse or anyone goes with her. Apparently you have to fill out a paper, make your appointment 10 days out, on Tuesdays or Thursdays before 2p. Um, doctor's appointments don't always work out that way. What happens when she's sick & a resident has to go to a doctors appointment? This is a huge problem & not in the contract. For the value At least he's getting 3 meals, his meds daily & clothes washed. [fee removed] for a hotel room is outrageous. Not including level of care which is about [fee removed] extra. Painting a turd & calling it a brownie doesn't make worth more. The only difference between a hotel room & a their "studio" is the "studio" has an extra closet. The room dad has doesn't match either "studio" floorplan in the brochure which is false advertising. His toilet was clogged before he moved in. That's a problem. It's still clogged 4 months later. Haircuts are extra $ & also require paperwork for the POA to fill out. That doesn't make any sense & they have to pay with an e-gift card.

Choose another community for your loved one. Key members of management lack any professional acumen and compassion. Their presentation belies the actual experience. I will never recommend that community to anyone, ever. It's tough to be an adult caregiver to your parents seeking out services for their well-being. Very disheartening to realize that some shiny apples really are rotting inside.

I will say, the people were always very nice and it was very clean. The food looked great. Although our experience my not happen often, I still don't feel that it was right and I won't recommend this facility to anyone. My loved one was physically there in the facility for less than 24 hours before he passed. The room itself was reserved and/or had his belonging in it for 2 weeks total. One week before he moved in and one week after he passed. We paid the first month's rent. That first week we were there getting things set up and ready for him. He spent less than 24 hours there before he passed. We removed all of his belongings within a week of his passing. So I understand paying for 2 weeks. However, in addition to the first months rent they also charge a one time fee with that first month's rent. We're not talking a small fee. This fee is almost equivalent to the amount of a full month's rent! They call this fee an 'entry fee.' They did tell us about it and explained that it's something that every resident pays their very first month. They explained that everyone's 'entry fee' is combined and that it's used for things like their family picnics, family functions, group celebrations, and things that they all participate in as a community. Again, my loved one was there for less than 24 hours and didn't get to participate in any of the things that the 'entry fee' would cover. After he passed, I asked them about pro rating his rent and refunding the entry fee. They told me that yes, they would pro rate the rent, but that the fee was non refundable. I can maybe understand if he had been there even just for one full month. But less than 24 hours? I just don't feel like that's ethical or fair and I feel like people should know that it was handled this way.

Please make sure you read your contract. If you have questions dont stop until they are answered and you understand that answer. If anything changes make sure you get it in writing. So you dont make the expensive mistake we did by not making sure the contract was followed. Lesson learned. The care was good, always welcoming.

UPDATE: As a vendor working 100's of Senior facilities. It took Heritage of Sandy Plains over 3 months to pay a very small bill. A dozen phone calls and 1/2 dozen emails. Got the "check is in the mail" several times. Finally called Corporate and they weren't happy about it. Find another place to put your parents. The management here is unprofessional and not up to par with other established facilities in Atlanta and surrounding area. Someone from SLCMidwest commented on my last 1 star and said to contact them.....I'll get right on it.....wasted enough time with this.

My father has lived here for about 6 months. The care has completely went down. There are times when I come to visit and my father has not gotten his meds. He pooled the cord in the bathroom and no one ever came to check on him. They have lost a lot of staff. Whenever I come to see my dad i ask to speak with the Executive Director but he is never there. I pay a lot of money here not to get the proper care.

I'm a vendor and work with 100's of communities for ten years. Most pay their bills and have professional staff. Heritage is now over 60 days on a $75 invoice and others in the industry I have talked with are having the same issue with them. This is a sign that something is wrong. If bills aren't being paid, there are troubles running within. Find another place and ask them if they are current on their bills and what the rotation is of their staff, another sign of problem.
