A Place for Mom has scored Phoenix Senior Living with 8.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 314 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Phoenix Senior Living has 1,209 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.2 out of 5.
We visited multiple communities in the Atlanta area and elsewhere for communities with independent/assisted living care and no other community compared to SP in terms of the facilities and meals offered for the cost. The cottage duplex setup for the independent living segment is impressive with the 1,000 square foot floor plan, the food is excellent, and the activities are well aligned and coordinated by very cheerful, friendly, and helpful staff. On the somewhat problematic side is the very bumpy administrative coordination we have seen so far, which we encountered from our very first visit. Some balls were dropped at various times, which required follow-up/advocacy, and services such as maintenance, housekeeping, and salon services have been less than hoped for. However, the visiting physician has been extremely helpful with getting the necessary specialists lined up for medical care. Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives, but I would caution children/caregivers who place their parents/seniors at SP to stay on top of the details and maintain close contact with staff. Ask questions and be an advocate, advice that applies no matter what community you choose, but in this case consistent follow-up is necessary.

They have done really well trying to get mom to come out of her shell and be a part of the community. They have not been successful, but that is not at all her fault. They have done all they can and have done a great job managing her medication, and getting her to eat three times a day, which she was not doing when living with her daughter. They've done a great job helping with the bathing, and working with her limited vision. One thing she has complained about a lot is the food. She says that the meals are frequently cold and have to be sent back.

Our family was immediately welcomed into this community. We are finding the staff to be very helpful and accommodating. One of the most helpful attributes is the availability of other family members to talk with and find support. The executive director had made himself available at any time we've needed. We were most impressed with his willingness to take the initiative to learn of my father's special healthcare needs and provide his staff with appropriate and adequate training. Our first week was of course difficult, yet it was made easier by the staff's understanding of our anxiety and their ever-present patience with our frequent questions, visits and phone calls. As we continue to transition and become accustomed to our new "Home" for Dad we are appreciative of the staff's concerns for our well-being and for providing a safe and comfortable place for our Dad.

Staff is working hard to make this a better place. We are pleased with how caring all the aides and med techs are, and my mother seems to respond well to them. Biggest concern is a bit of iinconsistency of food. Sometimes it is great, others lacking. I know the food service director is attempting to get more balance in meals, but there is often too much starch. Recently my mother chose a BLT wrap for the noon meal, and there was barely ANYTHING in the wrap. One evening when we ate with her, her soup was not even lukewarm. Little [removed] pineapple slices rather than chunks, which are easier for seniors. Often food is not proper (hot) temperature when served. Some meals service is fast, other days 30 minutes passes before entre served. BUT, I know hard work is being done to improve consistent standards. There is a good range of activities, and staff reminds residents when activities are to take place.

We picked the Phoenix because they have controlled access to the front door. It allows them to handle dementia residents in their assisted living area. The problem is that they are not staffed to handle the care needs of a dementia resident in the assisted living area. And the memory care units are not suitable for a resident unless their dementia is so severe that they no longer need activities or food choices. It has the potential of being a good facility if they clean up these issues and staff appropriately. Really nice caregivers but they do leave out of frustration. As usual, this place is VP top-heavy.

As with any place of service. There are always good people who do so very well and those negative experiences Dad had were with only a few. I think those few would have done so much better if they had more help. I also recommend a a different call system , one that involves a voice that answers and can listen to the specific needs of the client. Knowing one is heard and knowing thelp is on the way is so much better than waiting for and wondering. I think for the size and number of residents, this facility is grossly understaffed. My father never knew if or when assistance would arrive. He was unkempt and felt very strongly that the floor staff did not care about about him and his wellbeing. For someone with more independence and less need for assistance, yes I would recommend them. But for someone who needs help moving from bed to chair, bathroom to chair, any transferring, no.

The services are being reduced more and more while the price remains steep. Even the prices listed on this site are low compared to what is actually being charged. I have listed below some of my observations/concerns: >Meals are no longer a part of the stay and are offered at an extra charge. >Billing errors are commonplace month after month. >The weekly cleaning service that is supposed to be a part of the charges does not happen each week as advertised. Sometimes several weeks may pass with no cleanings. >The building access doors are supposed to be locked down during certain hours but this does not happen. Someone from off the street can walk into most of the buildings at any time of the night. >During a recent power outage the elevators did not work. A resident had to be carried like a baby by an employee up the stairs to her room. As stated in the title bar, I don't look at these as gripes but more as OPPORTUNITY!

Not much communication from staff to family. Have tried numerous times to reach out to the wellness staff but they never return your calls or email. Still have no idea if physical therapy is an option for our mom as the staff have not communicated that info with us.

[name removed] ended up leaving there after a couple weeks and being cared for at her home, but overall not the best experience. Hard to give a fair evaluation for such a short stay. However, she was not given the correct medications. I still can't figure out why. We like [name removed], the RN, very much and I know she spent a great deal of time on it. Ultimately it might have been KP and St Joe's records

My mother and stepdad were among the highest functioning at this facility. If you loved one needs memory care, but is still very social and alert, this may not be the right place. The staff was always very nice and the nurses had a good eye to recognize warning signs of potential health issues. The maintenance of the facility was less than desired. While this is an older facility, it is in a lovely setting with pretty grounds. The area advertised as a "Library" is not fully available for resident use because its used for staff meetings daily. Every time my mother wanted to work on a puzzle, it always seemed to conflict with staff meetings... so my mother lost interest... which is a big deal when trying to encourage enrichment activities. The Executive Director was terrible and was demoted to a smaller property. The next one lasted no more than a couple months and resigned the day my mother was attacked by a psychotic resident. We moved my mother and stepfather after this incident because no one ever called us when she had to taken to the ER and the management failed to take responsibility. With a competent Executive Director, this facility would be good. The hallways started smelling like urine in 2024. I truly liked all the staff members, except the ED. The activity director, [name removed], was wonderful and the techs and nurses were helpful and cared about their work and the residents.

We overall did not have a good experience and communication was very poor. She only stayed a few months. There is definitely room for improvements. The poor communication created or compounded the issues. My sister isn't the easiest but my oldest sister who was dealing with things was extremely frustrated. Think she was going to write a letter to home office or a Missouri office that deals with that type of thing.

It is nicely decorated. The activities and activities director are great. The food is below adverage - especially for the elderly with health issues. It is “Southern” … meaning fried, canned, salty, and inexpensive. The administration does not eat there. An optional fresh fruit and salad bar would be nice. I have consistently addressed this food issue since 2002 with no results other than as a dining guest they have now made me feel unwelcome (they now serve me 30 minutes after my loved one - even with advanced notice AND my loved one is charged for it). I do not care for the onsite administration or the mother company. The onsite administrator I had an issue with when she was at [facility removed] and managing BofS at the same time during Covid. The business manager is borderline hostile to me. The room cost has been raised by 12% and then 8-10% each year for the last two with “levels of care” extra and food trays extra etc. I tolerate it due to my loved one being 96 yrs. old.

Great location and nice facility - so much promise but seem to have trouble finding and retaining good staff. Former Exec Director was just awful; jury is out on the replacement - is the problem local or at corporate, nobody seems to know. Food has gone from passable to terrible as longtime chef left and has not been adequately replaced. Onsite salon and resident activities - talked about during initial sales process but have not been fulfilled. There are some good staff but the rest are lacking.

The nursing home was not very clean- feces in her bathroom. She was unsupervised at times and fell. They need more staff to handle the patient population and dedicate more time to caring for the individual needs of the patients. [name removed] was transported to the hospital twice due to injuries in the short time she spent in the facility. Expensive for the care received. The Hospice Nurse was awesome. [name removed], the lead nurse, was very kind, compassionate and responsive to our needs.
