Nice, but not for us.

Everyone is nice, but I felt like the sales team was ultra nice in the beginning. Then once we actually put our loved one in the home, the level of communication went down, and we were kind of left in the dark a little. They're still friendly. They're just not providing enough progress reports about what's going on. The facility itself and our loved one's room have been pretty clean the times that we've gone. I feel they're not as attentive as they said they were going to be. Our loved one would call our different family members back to back to back for hours, to the point that we had to block her, for things like she couldn't get her TV to work. But if they were checking on her regularly, I would think surely they would have fixed it for her. Although she has dementia, so I'm not sure if she knew she coulda ask them for help. I think for what we pay, it's too much. Our loved one is alone and by herself a lot, but if your loved one is more active, it might be a better value.

Be Prepared, Ask Questions

Make sure to ask questions. Be sure to ask important questions like: How many staff per resident? How many staff are on staff at night? If a resident needs hospice, how does that work? How do their fees work and what are they for the different services? I wish more of the management and administration team would have shown more care towards the family and loved one during the transition of my loved one. There are limited staff members on the floor at night and staff members during the day. There was a high turnover of staff due to management issues. [Name] was wonderful to work with. She made sure my loved one and I were taken care of during this difficult time. The food is tough and has no taste. They give plenty of servings of food to the residents though. I wouldn't recommend this community to others.

Our tour experience

We had a favorable tour, and the facility was very close to where we live. But in doing our research, we found reviews mentioning negative things regarding safety incidents. That, coupled with a 2-story building with no elevator, and a very steep entry fee even for a shorter respite stay, led us to decide on a different community.

questionable integrity

The director is putting more responsibility on the family and not looking for solutions to issues internally. Communication is not very good. We are told we would be contacted back and we do not receive those calls. The staff has high turnover and care plans aren't consistent with what we were told when we moved our loved one in.

The facility seemed a bit older in appearances. The model room wasn't 100% clean. There were stains in the shower. This gave me pause. Most residents had their doors open - providing direct viewing of them in their beds and direct viewing of their bathroom. This made it feel more like skilled nursing or a hospital than the other facilities we visited. There were a lot of stairs in the buidlings and around the property. This seemed odd for an elder-care facility. Parking was limited. The nicest feature was "the terrace" which offers a level of care between assisted living and memory care.

We never felt welcomed

We are not able to go into the community to see the overall cleanliness of the place or even our loved ones room. Another thing that is frustrating is we will drop off gifts to the community for our loved one, and with our loved one being on the memory care side she doesn't remember if she received gifts or not. So we will have to call the community to double check and sometimes it takes 30 minutes to get an answer.

make sure to have a thorough evaluation

Originally they evaluated my mother for assisted living, but after 6 weeks they wanted to put her in the memory care facility, this was a $2000 difference. The staff was really nice and they did a great job. The facility is in the middle of nowhere and there is not a lot of places to walk outside.

You Can Get A Bigger Bang For Your Buck Elsewhere

The food is terrible, half the time my loved one refuses it. The staff are great that the residents are interacting with regularly. The community needs some updating. I would recommend others look elsewhere for a community for their loved one. The activities could be improved. All residents have seen a down turn after the change of ownership according to residents that have been there a while.

don't do it

Mom was in the memory care and I would sit don't use this facility. I removed my mom from Oakmont, due to them not being able to properly manage her meds as well a not handling a dementia patient very well. Their solution was to threaten her with evection and try to raise the fees. I would not recommend this community when it comes to memory care.

Heavy sales and low delivery

They present t and offer a lot more than they actually really do. We had to complete 68 pages of electronically signed papers. For five weeks it cost over $10,000 there and we were really disappointed with the service that were promised and not delivered. They made a major medication error that continued for nine days before it was resolved. I didn't feel very happy and safe being the basics precaution weren't being followed like hand washing. They painted a beautiful picture but did not deliver.

Very Expensive

The nursing staff and the food are good, but it is very expensive to live there. The average cost for my mother to live there now is $7,000 per month. Sometimes it’s closer to $8,000 per month. It all depends on her care level. When she doesn’t feel well her care level goes up. My mom has been living at Sunrise of Claremont for ten months and the cost keeps going up. In September I was billed $17, 068.18. I don’t know what those charges are for. She wasn’t even sick in September. I am currently disputing those charges. Those charges only include her rent, meals, and the care services she receives. Anything extra, like incontinent supplies, haircuts, guess meals, tray services to her room, laundry services, etc. are added to your monthly bill. You must also provide your own hygiene and linen supplies. They will provide transportation to some doctor appointments, depending on the scheduling, but a family member has to accompany the resident to the appointment. They will not provide transportation to regular medical appointments like dialysis. There are weekly site seeing outings that are free, but outings to restaurants are added to your monthly bill. They also have exercise classes, bingo, and weekly church activities.
