Not A Fit For Us

I took a tour of this community and saw a parking lot between the living and activities building. The staff were not inviting during my tour, I felt they just showed me a room and not try to understand the care I was looking for. I did not get a welcoming atmosphere with this tour.

Broken promises!

Having my Mom as a resident has given us nothing but issues. The initial meeting with them was great. They made promises for an ipod which Mom never received. We are paying for housekeeping yet I change Mom's sheets. The dining experience is most definitely not up to par. Most of the staff are young girls that pay no attention to the residents. The activities that are scheduled never happen. I am thinking of bringing Mom home with me if things don't improve.

Nice place

Hawaii Kai Retirement is clean and nice. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. My problem is my parents are in Assisted Living. My mother is capable of independent living but my father needs a little care with medicine and catheter. They lost all their independence moving from the house they lived in for 59 years. They have no family close by to help them. they are frustrated by having to schedule appointments on certain days at certain times. No one has taken them by the hand to show them how to take the transportation to the grocery store. The staff in assisted living is used to people who do not leave and my mother wants to leave. They end up taking taxis. I will be taking another trip out there to help them overcome some of these obstacles.

I toured this community!

Honestly out of all the places I toured I liked this one the best the only problem was it was too expensive for my mother. Everyone approched me during my tour. They knew me by first name, I was shocked. The facility did not have an odor and the patients looked very clean. I met with the Executive Director and the Head Nurse. They were informative, they even referred me to other places that were more in line with my budget. If they can not help you they will try to give you resources. I was impressed by the professionalism.

The transition has been rocky, but they are nice and caring.

They are doing a good job. There are some things that aren't quite what I hoped. They aren't as well staffed as I had expected or hoped. They got hit with the flu and they are just starting to come out it. But there were new people all the time, and that was frustrating, they didn't know where the notes were. They were going through transition with a new manager, but they are working on it. I like the staff they are caring and well intentioned. In general I think they are very nice and caring people. The cleaning and the laundry has had some issues. They keep the general facilities clean, but there have been a few issues with the private areas. The food is really good, and I like them, we have just had a little bit of a rocky start through this transition.

It's very clean, and the staff is friendly.

It's very clean, and the staff is friendly. They are not really up on the issues of service animals, and what all the rules are. It can take a long time for someone to respond to a call button. It's taking a long time to get things done, there are some miscommunications from time to time. She is starting to get involved in things, but we are waiting still for her motorized wheelchair so that she can get around without help. They could be a little more organized, and systematic. The food is very good, and the waitstaff is very good.

This was very expensive.

This was very nice and very expensive. The base rate was a couple of thousand more than the place I chose. The rooms are smaller here too. The parking wasn't very good, you either had to find metered parking on the street or pay $12 at the lot next door .

Very expensive

They seemed to be very expensive, for the same care I can get elsewhere. This was about $3000 more a month. The other place even has a better ratio caregiver to resident. They were the second most expensive we saw. Even just the facilities themselves were nicer at the less expensive place.

Not perfect, but very good.

My Dad has been at Sunrise on the Memory Care floor almost two months now. Obviously, a difficult decision to move him there as we had 24/7 caregivers for him at home. We felt he would receive good care and better stimulation at Sunrise. The staff is very, very friendly and I am very pleased with the level of stimulation he receives there, including going on outings up to two times per week. We still have a private caregiver with Dad from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. We have noticed that when the private caregiver is not there, Dad is not receiving the kind of care and attention we were hoping for. We understand his needs cannot be met exactly at the moment he needs them met, however, there have been mornings that he has soaked the bed. My concern is that he isn't checked on often enough during the night. They only have two full time staff for the overnight hours. I appreciate how difficult it is to manage a population of patients suffering from various forms of dementia and given that understanding, I feel Sunrise is doing a very good job.

Sunrise

We love the care and attention provided for our Mom. There is always several activities offered, and the staff is not only attentive to the reresidence, but they know who the family members are, and are always there for an accurate status update.

New Living

Overall Atria Bayside Landing is good place for senior's to have a small community that they could enjoy. It's been over month since my dad went there to live. His social skills have change a lot, very out going, made more friends and he likes living there. Everyone is very attentive to each resident that lives there, making sure they are well taken care of during day or night.

The Trials and Tribulations of Starting Over

My sister's recent move necessitated relocating my ninety five year old mother from northern California to southern California. Prior to the relocation twenty-six facilities were reviewed and toured to find the most appropriate match of services provided to my mother's specific care requirements. Yes, at her age declining mental and physical capabilities were both important factors in choosing this facility. The unique aspect of Sunrise at Fullerton, that distinguished it from the other twenty-five facilities, is its Terrace Club community. This community provides an intermediate level of care between assisted living and locked down memory care units. For individuals with memory issues, but, not at a safety level of concern (i.e. wandering or other anti social behavioral issues); Terrace Club provides the necessary structured environment for mental stimulation and social interaction. The greater care giver to resident ratio also diminishes anxiety over the physical safety of your loved one. Is it perfect? No. As can be expected minor issues always arise that require resolution. The staff, however, is friendly, attentive and willing to make that extra effort to resolve any issues that pop up. I am satisfied that the correct decision was made in moving mom to Sunrise.

Nice Coutnry Feel

They have it set up like little cottages. It's not one big huge institutional place. They all have wrap around porches and rocking chairs. It has a very country feel to it which my grandmother liked but she really like the food at another place. She used to be an institutional chef so she's really picky about the food.
