Some slow response time but overall, we're happy

The care is okay, there was a couple of times thet my mom ends up calling me because she says she pushes the button and no one came and thats generally after 10 and I went there myself one time and pushed the button and we sat there and waited 45 minutes and no one came, so that's the only concern I have. if its very late in the even theres just nobody there. We've just seen it that one time i really noticed it, we pushed it there other night and someone was there a couple of minutes, it could be that the other person is gone, so I try not to jump to conclusions. It may have bene a one time thing but I do notice that if its late in the evening and i need to go really look for somebody. She really likes the exercise and she enjoys whenever they have an ice cream social or popcorn, she really enjoys when they have someone come in during dinner that performs and she really likes that. The one thing she absolutely hates is that she can't have tylenol or something in her room, she has allergies and she can't have benadryl so that just drives her crazy, but other than that i think she likes it.

Review for The Renaissance of Stillwater

I have to say, at this time, the Renaissance is going through some upheaval and tough times living up to their promises. They're having chronic staff problems leaving them understaffed a great deal of time and pushing the really good workers who come in for double and triple shifts to the point where we just had five quit this last weekend. It's causing a lot of stress and strain and services get cut back. Laundry and room cleaning is slowed way back and the food quality goes up and down as they have not been able to maintain any kind of continuity in their cooking staff. Some of the evening meals are the worst with sometimes half the guests not bothering to come down to dinner or not bothering to stay. And what people pay to stay here it's disheartening to have to order food from Walmart to cook ourselves when we're already paying for a dinner. Breakfast and lunch are pretty good most of the time but it depends on who's doing the cooking and because of the staff shortages half the time Tara chill or Stacia come in and are cooking themselves and even the maintenance staff chips in. They move people around in and out of positions to suit what their personal needs are. Not what is the best for the residents necessarily. Now next to some of the other places I have heard about apparently this is a palace. A major problem we have is that they welcome presidents to have pets but they deny us Transportation with same pets to a veterinarian on their bus stating allergies as a preventative. Which doesn't make sense as people are living in the buildings with the same animals.

Review for Skyline Place

Cleanliness is marginal at best. The weekly room cleaning is very superficial. There are many individual staff members that are very attentive and sweet. There are others that are rude and condescending. Much of the time the responsiveness of the staff depends on the staffing pattern. I've heard the staff say multiple times say that they are "understaffed" therefore cannot meet all of the needs of the residence. However, they charge for individual needs, even though they're not always being delivered as advertised.

So far so good with the Renaissance. They was a small issue with there first months rent discount and applying it properly, but other wise, so far so good. It's not as nice and glamorous as Stonecreek was, but I think the Renaissance staff is working well for my mom.

Not a place I would recommend

I would tell other families that if you are in an assisted living facility and you have to have a PICC line they won't let you stay there but they will continue to charge you for your apartment and all the food that you're not there to eat. So families need to be aware of that potential financial burden. This is not a place that I would recommend.

McLoughlin Place is a place I would recommend with regular monitoring. Trust but verify.

Our interactions with staff have been positive and when asked they respond but our concerns are always addressed with "I'm new", I'm with the agency", "they didn't tell me about that". We know the permanent staff and seldom have concerns with their work, unless we see that there are insufficient workers assigned to the shift." McLoughlin Place has some great staff but they have lost a few of their permanent staff lately and replaced them with temporary staff. Some of these temporary staff are OK others we are evaluating. I suspect maintaining staff in care facilities is a challenge but I think astute management will be the key to ensure the employee care is adequate.

All the Glitters Is Not Gold

The reality does not match the sales pitch or brochure. poor staff to ownership relationships, and the very good ones end up leaving. Housekeeping is non-existent at the moment due to staff shortage. Nursing and Care staff have to pick up the load when it comes to laundry trash and housekeeping right now. My room has not been cleaned at all this week. They say we received three Chef prepared meals a day. There's a lovely lovely Latin American Family who does the cooking, but I can't believe these are certified chefs. and the food was so full of carbohydrates when I got here that I actually had to complain. It's just the cheapest food they can get to keep everybody fed. It's more like nursing home food. No exercise room as advertised, no physical activities on a regular basis. They refuse to let us take our pets to the vet on their bus. But they say they are pet friendly. Bus only runs Tuesday and Thursday, $50 a ride any other day. None of that is in brochure. Much more call me.

Need more staff

The reason for 3 for overall care is that one of the residents attempted to move my husband in his wheelchair. He fell face forward and died as a result of the injuries. There could possibly be a bit more supervision. I do think they need to have a better staff-to-resident ratio.

Our Experience

Don't expect the facility to keep track of family's clothes or bedding. The staff is very friendly, but I don't hear from them outside of my visits to the facility. On multiple occasions, my stepmom was without any clothes to wear and bedding completely missing. No back ups used and everything I have supplied was gone. Housekeeping is hit and miss. Sometimes it is clean, other times the garbage is overflowing, TP on the floor, and the room is not picked up. The move in was easy, but I recommend keeping personal items to a minimum as other people (not staff) walk in the rooms and try and take things. The food, I am told, is not good and very bland. Staff is super friendly, but I never hear from them outside of my visits unless she needs medical attention or a refill of medication. I was told that they would work with her to get her out and visit with others, but she doesn't ever leave her room. They also said they would work with her to wear depends and she still refuses. All in all, I think they charge too much for the care she is receiving; but she seems happy for the most part and that is what matters.

Review for The Mansion at Waterford

They are all lacking in things. The Mansions treat the tenants very well; however they seem short staffed. You have to really pay attention to what is accomplished and what's not. Most places wanted to just put her in memory care. The one we really wanted was full. Mansions looks like hotel and it's price wasn't as expensive as others on that scale. They promised intense assisted living. My mother has dementia. She needs more than regular assisted living but not ready for memory care.

Make a careful consideration

I am a bit disappointed with McLoughlin Place. I explicitly provided information to them when I was reviewing the place for my loved one. I informed them of 2 care concerns that I had and they assured me that they have ways of working with people and that they wouldn't be an issue. Apparently, that has not been the case. Very frustrating. They are friendly, but there are different staff every time I go in and visit my loved one. As for the housekeeping, the lady next to my loved one dumped her tray of food by her door and a week later I was there and the mess was still in the carpet. My loved one's floor is always sticky. The garbage gets emptied, but the room seems to be messy with clothes lying all over/dirty laundry on the floor. Communication with the family rarely happens, I rarely hear from them. When I am there, I rarely see any staff unless they come in to empty the trash or to bring my loved one's food. The food looks good, but I haven't eaten it. I'm not sure if I would recommend this facility to others, I am on the fence about that. They had a lady crying in the hallway when I was visiting one day. When I said something to the nurse tech she just shrugged her shoulders and said, that's what happens when the family has their parents on the wrong medication.

Our experience with The Meadows

The Administrative staff are very responsive however the nursing staff seem to be in a power struggle with each other and the residents. Many (not all) are not patient and do not listen to the needs of the residents. They tend to treat them all the same although their physical and cognition needs vary. Compared to other communities in the area, for the value it is clean and the rooms are decent sized. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend them to other families, howeverthey would need to be actively involved in the care of their family member to hold staff accountable.
