A good experience

It has been a good experience at the Pacific Pointe. We haven't had any major issues. The maintenance staff is outstanding. It's clean and friendly. The only minor issue is that the meal service seems to be a little slow. Other than that, no complaints. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The value is excellent. The care services and activities are good.

It’s a beautiful community.

It’s a beautiful community. It’s safe. The food could have more variety! They should change it up and not have the same stuff every week. It’s a good place. They need more parking. It’s pretty clean and people are friendly.

Pleasant Independent Living

I toured after living and leaving somewhere else. I am now living here. I find the atmosphere very "community-like". The people are warm and the management are friendly. 24-management is the big plus. That is reassuring to me. I am super-pleased with the library as it is large, has a computer and free Wi-Fi, and is in a separate area from the recreation rooms/tv room. The meal plan needs work, but a new cook arrived so I have high hopes. Yes, it is an old building, but it FEELS homey. Location, location, location! 3 parks within blocks. Wal Mart, Target and Petco within blocks. The Police Dept is 2 blocks away. Fire Dept a few blocks farther. A wonderful Senior Center a few blocks away where you can go for more fun activities. I really am pleased with Pacific Pointe. They treat me with respect. Only thing I would like different is the mail slots be put out in a more accessible area so I don't have to bother the staff to get it.

Large but clean

Very big place. Some turn over. My relative likes the food. They are patient with her even thought she can get angry over nothing. Made her move to a private room because she was bothering her room mate, not too happy about that because they declared her difficult and charge more. There is very good communication. Very very clean place. I like that. I'd recommend it to someone whose placed person doesn't need closeness to staff members. Lots of activities but need to sign up for them.

honest thoughts

The staff is very helpful. Meals are well balanced and on time. I think there needs to a staff member to schedule activities on a daily basis. All the cost of living is included plus transportation. It is in great location.

Great Management, Food Could Use Improvement

I'm in a medium studio and I pay extra for my cats which I think is fair. The only problem is the food. Even though it's supposed to come with the price I'm ordering from meals on wheels because I need a low fat diet and they don't provide that. I like the activities. We just got a new activities director and she's really willing to letting people here give suggestions about what to do. She's open to new suggestions which I really like. What I was really impressed with is just yesterday we had a fire drill and I was impressed by that. I like how it was done. They really were knocking at all the resident's doors and explaining. They listen o complaints of the residents and I think they act on that. I'm really impressed with that. The management are really in tuned to what the residents want.

Positives and Negatives

We've had some issues about my mother's medication which is pretty important. On the other hand, the care that my mother gets from the staff is just outstanding. The lady that is running the place is new and she's not a very pleasant person but everyone else is great. We were surprised that all these really kind, sweet, generous, happy people are all under one roof! The medicines, that was quite an issue. We have problems with them not giving it or, running out, so it wasn't ordered in time. Fortunately for her, when that happened it was just sleeping pills but it could have been her seizure medication. It's happened a couple of times. They take her laundry and clean her apartment on Thursday. And in the afternoon they bring all her laundry back and hang it up and everything. That is really great.

[Name removed] was lovely and invited us back for a meal and activities. The shared space available was so small I don't think you could fit a double bed into it. I would have to walk through my "roommate's" room every time I wanted to leave my room, and she would have to walk through mine every time she needed to use the bathroom. I think these rooms were originally a one bedroom apartment. It had a huge closet. The rest was not only small but also with many awkward angles. The place was quite clean and did not smell. [Name removed] knew everyone and called them all by name. The carpeting was a little less than pristine. The location felt very safe and was behind a shopping mall which would be easy to get to. I thought it was very pricey for the space involved.

I visited this place and it seems ok. It feels a little run down in the common areas (feels like an older community library or rec center with not enough funding, old equipment, old books, old furniture etc). The price is good compared to most retirement communities.

Pretty Nice

I toured at Brookdale Salinas for my loved one. I thought that the community was pretty nice, but, I also thought that for the price, it was more expensive for fewer amenities. In addition, they did not have any openings when we were looking, so we continued searching.

The room they had available was very cute! West facing, palm trees, mirrored closets with plenty of light and a walk in shower. The facility itself seemed to be renovated and cleaned to show instead of truly improve. I don't know if I get this impression because of the more difficult time they must have keeping things nice to allow smokers and pets or if there is work to be done within management but it felt like a poorly maintained hotel. All the right things were there for a great center but with a less than thorough cleaning, disorganization, and missing some of those finishing touches that really pull everything together the look and feel are less than spectacular.

The building is well organized. Hallway carpeting could use a cleaning but perhaps that's a constant battle. Other residents appear friendly and watchful for those who may need some help. The laundry room facilities could use some maintenance... one washer has been broken for quite some time by resident report. Communication is a bit rough as would be expected in this type of facility.

Review of Pacific Pointe - Chula Vista, CA

Everyone was very friendly. My parents enjoyed greeting some of the residents. The property is older. We didnt really try the food. My parents werent very hungry and we waited quite a while for the waiter to come take our order. My dad just wanted to get on with the tour.
