Some Small improvements Good experience overall

Based on the experience we have had so far, we think they have some improvements to help better the experience - communication (i.e patient adapting/not adapting). How to pay, and the doctors name.

Review for Fairmont of Northville

Find a different place. We picked this community because the offered 24 hour nursing. They need to improve with upper management and communication. Also Sales, they tell you all kinds of things intake that do not prove to be true.

I Toured This Community

This community is a little outdated. The rooms were too small for my loved one. The residents had to use an elevator to go get their meals, which isn’t the best way for memory care residents in my opinion. The staff was very professional and friendly when we visited the community.

better than average, but use caution

the food is poor quality in the memory care unit; whereas on the assisted living side the food is leaning towards a 5/5. same thing with the activities. memory care residents just watch tv all day long, and nothing else. the value for the cost is low, with respect to expectations. I've been to over 40 senior communities and facilities in the Detroit area. I have seen both good and bad places. when you walk into Brighton Gardens, it doesn't smell and it looks good. but the memory care is sequestered from the rest of community and its really lacking. I was talking to director there and was told that my dad was given hotdogs 3 out of 5 days and sandwiches with oven heated French fries on other days - I was livid. the director replied, "I wouldn't mind having hotdogs every day of week". that was not what I wanted to hear because that's not what we're paying for. it wasn't until then that he told us we could go out into the main dining room where there's a variety of different foods and choices - so whenever my mom comes to visit, she'll try and take him out there to get better food. the memory care residents don't know how to speak up for themselves, as they aren't cognitive of the quality of meals and variety that should be there. we're currently trying to figure out how we can transition him back home and into a home healthcare agency.

This community was very clean but it felt more like a hospital than it did a retirement community. It was just not what we were looking for for our loved one.

lovely, but understaffed

Brighton Gardens of Westlake is a lovely facility. visually, it is very pretty as well. everyone that my loved one and I have met have been very kind. the staff and management who are there are all great and extremely friendly; but there just aren't enough people. I would make this choice again, but just like every other place, they are having staffing issues and trouble filling positions. Because of this there have been times when my loved one had to wait a while to get assistance. that aspect isn't good, but when they do come they are very helpful. I would still recommend this community to others. I just feel that if they were fully staffed, the services and care would go from good to wonderful.

Very close to where I live staff is friendly. Its easy to go in and out when going to visit mom. They are a little short staff as others may be too. With mom having a hard to communicate and not as proactive in saying that she needs to go to the restroom it does make it difficult. With the community being short staffed mom isn't offered every 4 hours to go to the restroom.

Our Tour Experience

I didn’t like the fact that the director did not know the residents' names as we happened to pass them in the hallway. She just didn’t seem to know who they were. There was also a little bit of an odor in the facility.

My tour review

When touring this facility we felt that this was very overpriced for what we expected. The memory care unit was not what we expected and the residents were roaming around on their own. I did not see the one on one care that I needed for my loved one.

The tour was fine and [name removed] was very kind. There were many activities scheduled and they were varies which was nice. The apartments were very small and unfortunately when we got off the elevator I immediately smelled urine. I am a nurse and pretty sensitive to smells but it definitely was a con. I do like the program they have to transition people to home if possible. A nice place but not the place for my dad.

Found it outdated & institutional. Kitchenette only had a Small cube fridge The small modular shower did not allow for a handicap shower seat which seemed dangerous It did have a lot of amenities though. Would not work for our situation.

Day Staff Needs Improvement

My mother is doing pretty well for the most part with her move to this community. Her main concern has been the morning staff at this community. She says they are understaffed in the mornings. Due to them being understaffed during the day, there are some things that need improvements. Other than the day staff issue, the other staff through out the day is good. She is pleased with the meals, and has gotten involved in the activities they offer. Until they fix the morning staff, this is not a community I could recommend at this moment.

Care and concern

My father was in this community. I was not happy that they did not call an ambulance for my father to go to the emergency room. He did not go back after that. We were not happy. The community was nice and clean. The staff was not as helpful as we liked. The community is clean. The meals could use small improvements. We would suggest that families tour this community for the care of a loved one. Mayone takes more than one tour.

Let's go have some fun!

The are doing an okay job. They just need to help the memory care people to be able to stay on track. It seems like moms room is never clean when I go and visit. The rooms are already very small. She liked the food. I also like that they go on a lot of outings and keep them active.

Mixed experience

Brighton Gardens seems like a nice place, overall, but there are a few issues I think they could work on. The facility itself is well kept and clean for the most part, and the administrative and front desk staff were all very friendly and professional. However, I think the aide staff could be better trained and better managed. With a few exceptions it seemed like it was a lot of younger people who would rather have been playing with their phones.
