My parent still had the ability to clearly walk and talk. This was not a fit as many residents needing further care or were not as mobile. He was not a fit.

My husband and I toured this facility for my mom and dad. Our tour guide, Carol, was wonderful and we were very impressed. Unfortunately, my sister and brother toured the facility a second time, and they were treated very differently. Their tour guide (not Carol) was very curt and almost unfriendly. They also felt that she was not listening to what they were telling her about the needs of our parents. Needless to say, they were not impressed at all, so we have decided on a different facility for our parents. The lesson we learned is to always tour a facility on different days, so you meet different members of the staff.

We toured this facility for my mom and dad. Our tour guide was not very knowledgeable and she later admitted she had only been on the job a short time. We found the hallways and dining area very dark and dreary. The residents who were eating lunch were totally silent so it did not seem very inviting. They have large two bedroom facilities for assisted living, but otherwise there was not much positive about this place.

My Mother was a resident three and a half years. The facility and room were very satisfactory. Attention to maintaining a constant care schedule - bathing, supervision of staff and communication between the facility doctor requires consistent monitoring by the family. Overall the facility lacks supervision. There is only ONE doctor which services the facility and the doctor will not communicate directly with the family. A Sunday visit can frustrate the family when your Mom's care is not being taken care of consistently.

We entertain there with The Bedpan Band and nobody was happy and the staff was grumpy too, but it was a beautiful place. It just didn't seem like people were happy. It looks like a grand hotel or something. It was just gorgeous but you could just tell that the staff and the people were just not happy people. I didn't have a complete tour but you could just tell people weren't happy and the staff wasn't happy even getting people to their seats to listen to us. It used to be a hotel so I'm sure they aren't apartments but more like hotel rooms.

They weren't professional. They set up an appointment with us and weren't ready for us when we got there. The rooms weren't as nice. It's wasn't as clean, it was a lot noisier than any of the others we saw. I was just generally noisy and the staff was not near as professional as they should have been.

This is the first facility that I've placed my mother in. They get a zero on communication. I understand that they're going through some management changes but when you place your mother in a facility and you email and call and you don't get a response, that's devastating. You can't run over there everynight to see how your loved one is doing. She's been moved 3 times since she's been there. She's a very high functioning alzheimer's patient and now she's in a house of very low funcitoning people. She's the only one who's ambulatory. I don't think she's in the appropriate house. I've seen good care but I don't think there is enough activity for her. It's very cheery and bright - open and spread out with more space to walk around.

Families really need to stay on top of their loved ones care. If a loved one needs a good amount of care and has cognitive issues but not severe enough for memory care then you probably want to find another facility.

While there were some bright spots during our experience—particularly the administrative staff, the new nursing director, and a few of the aides who were consistently pleasant and helpful—there were significant concerns that must be addressed. Unfortunately, many staff members, including both permanent employees and temporary agency personnel, were often rude and confrontational. This created an unnecessarily stressful environment for both residents and their families. The quality of the food was also a major issue. At times, it was so poor that it was essentially inedible. I won’t go into exhaustive detail, but suffice it to say that the meals frequently fell well below acceptable standards. Another serious concern involved the overnight staff, particularly after midnight. These employees were often loud and disruptive, regularly disturbing residents’ rest. Despite repeated complaints, this issue was never properly resolved. Gaining access to the facility after 6 PM was often frustrating. Even when we called ahead, we frequently had to wait at the entrance—sometimes for up to 30 minutes. This lack of responsiveness was deeply troubling. Perhaps most concerning of all was the failure of the call button system. The button worn by our mother was essentially useless; assistance was rarely, if ever, provided when she pressed it. This is unacceptable for any facility that claims to offer assisted living services. When we raised concerns about slow response times, we were told it was due to staffing shortages. In several cases, only one staff member was responsible for covering an entire floor—half the number that is typically required. In summary, while a few individuals provided excellent care, the overall experience was marred by unprofessional behavior, substandard food, safety concerns, and a serious lack of adequate staffing. These issues need urgent attention to ensure the well-being and dignity of the residents.

Administration changed over twice with no notification and new Administration did not adjust well. The facility itself was nice and the staff were super friendly and helpful. But looking back they were not able to give my mom the care she needed and I should've moved her to a different facility. The person in charge of the books had a curt approach to speaking with me after mom died and said I had 8 days to get her stuff out. A positive. [name removed] at the welcome desk was phenomenal and was so good to my mom.

The professional staff was not great, they lied about transportation availability (the biggest reason I moved there) a major issue for me as I see a couple of physicians a week. The maintenance 'chief ' could not find his way his way out of a plastic bag. The activities were boring, the good ones run by other inmates. It was very pathetic. I rarely saw our ED. She stayed hidden away in her office. The business managers job seemed to be to protect the ED but he was usually wandering the halls and very polite. It was always stained. The smell of sewer was pervasive. All the lounge chairs shower have years of use and the activity room spend where we spend a lot of our free time was carpeted which got more or less wet from week to week but it was NEVER DRY. The place was looked gorgeous but look a little deeper and the viewer will find broken wc's and walkers hidden in the basement stairs, mold in some of the basement , frequently broken windows , and on and on.

I moved in less than two years ago and during that time Brenden Gardens has been on a constant downward spiral. Before I moved here, I'd been told by friends they'd heard how well the building was maintained and how delicious the food was. Every meal was "gourmet and nutritious." Fresh vegetables, fresh chicken, meat and fish for our main course, and delicious bread, rolls and desserts. What many of us have found are not very nutritious meals consisting of scoops of mashed potatoes with gravy and canned vegetables. The Chef outdid himself for the Holiday meals as well as keeping our daily menu interesting. Unfortunately, he resigned earlier this year when he was offered a job where he would have weekends off and no longer be required to work 12 hour days.

Our experience with the sales person was extremely positive and in large part the reason we chose this facility. There is a lack of communication between staff, my mother’s medication has been repeatedly mishandled in spite of my constant follow up with her doctor and the clinical director. There is an unpleasant smell of feces constantly on the second floor. While some of the nursing aide staff is friendly, there are a handful that sit at the station laughing and joking with each other, but rude when you approach with a question. Their phone system has been messed up since we got there so you cannot leave a voicemail message for anyone. The food has not been made to order as promised, so it’s cold and sometimes congealed so we are buying food for my mother . No schedule was ever given to my mother if us to let her know when to expect her clothes being washed, her showers, housekeeping, etc. We have had to ask for every bit of information and it has not even been correct.

It is a beaucratic organization with concern about their rules. My husband’s entry to memory care was delayed because of paperwork. And they kept him 11 hours before sending him to the hospital because they could not handle him. I found the staff had no compassion or understanding of those in need

One staff member in the dining room "waiter" is not friendly and shouldn't be working there. Nursing staff don't communicate with each other so no one knows what's going on. I relay info and they say ok and that's it. I have to keep reminding them to give my mom a shower even though she is supposed to be on a shower schedule it will be a full week and I have to say something to them this has happened more than once. You are supposed to be able to visit 24/7 but they lock the doors at 8 and no one answers the doors. Me and one of the nurses got into it and she had a very bad attitude and nothing has been done about it. She just laughed at my concerns. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!

kitchen staff - 0 housekeeping staff - 4 don't have sufficient knowledge of other staff members to rate them Friendliness Staff - 2.5 Residents 4 (they look out for each other). Quality of care: this is hard to rate as it's an Independent Living Facility and care is very limited Administrative Staff: Some staff members are very friendly and helpful; others not so much, timing of maintenance repair/replacement is too slow-unacceptable, feeling is that staff is made the priority while residents are treated as secondary. All of the above results in overall rating of 2.5. Untrained cook staff, no direct supervision, rude staff, too small portions, many times food is inedible--- many times I leave the table still hungry. Could include other types of activities, for example, arts & crafts, cultural, current events. Activities include a lot of bingo and cards, both of which require little involvement on the part of the staff. My rating has been provided for each of you items, as well as my explanation of how I arrived at that rating for your consideration when evaluating this facility.
