Don't stop-Drive on By to the next Assisted Living community

My mother in law moved in July 28th after she was discharged from the hospital with a broken hip and pelvis. Her care was atrocious with a 25 to 1 care level. I personally witnessed 5 requests for help that took over 3 1/2 hours before they came. My mother in law was is severe pain and they would only provide her with Tylenol which was uncomprehensible given her medical status and severe pain she was in. The head honcho and lead business person were truly rude and had no clue about insurance-None. We switched insurance coverage while she was there and I was told they only accept Humana which is 100% wrong. I tried explaining that the BCBS policy can be used anywhere regardless if they are contracted or not. After several calls between BCBS, Myself and the 2 rude "know it all's) we left there after only being there for 16 days. The care and food is simply horrific. The one lady was so rude that I ask her to listen for a moment. When BCBS called her and explained there's no need for contracting because the reimbursement percentage is based on Usual & Customary costs within the area. This lady I'm guessing chased away over 100+ applicants because of her ignorance regarding insurance. She was educated by the BCBS Claims Manager in front of 6 people, after the call I ask "Is there any doubt now that you can begin accepting BCBS applicants. Her answer was " I still don't believe this can be done". I received a bill 2 months later and BCBS payed 100% of her 16 day stay. On my follow up regarding the bill to Miss No It All, I ask her if she learned anything from everything I did to help her understand insurance, her reply " You didn't teach me a thing because I already knew how to handle this". Whoa I exclaimed, I'm calling because when we first met and discussed insurance you were adamant and 100% convinced that The Healthcare Resort of Leawood is only contracted with Humana. Hasn't that changed because BCBS paid our bill with no issues of any kind. I'm sure since you will know accept BCBS you won't have to turn people away and maybe begin filling your beds. She gave me a friendly hand gesture that resembles a bird and I was told I could leave anytime I wanted too. I guess my hope for getting a Thank you for helping you is out of the question, her response was silence and a growl. In closing, I wouldn't take my [Removed] there because you would argue that a spaded male is a [Removed] because that's what it looks like. Stay clear of this poorly run organization and that's evident from all the bad reviews you are getting. Corporate needs to clean house and begin administering Testing to determine Emotional & Social Intelligence. These types of test allow the company to weed out those whose DNA is not suited for Elderly Care. These tests also tell you what industries your qualified for based on what your genetic DNA testing reveals. I sincerely hope that Corporate in Dallas reads this and does implement a process for weeding out the Turkeys from the Eagles... and that includes you Miss Hotshot. I would be happy to assist there due to such a shortage of qualified Healthcare Executives who know how to run a friendly operation.

Stay away from here

The medical care at this community is [Removed]. My mother was at HC resort of Leawood for rehab care and had a completely unresponsive doctor ([Removed]) that did not return phone calls and never once walked into her room during a 20+ day stay. She deteriorated under his care and the care of his incompetent nurse practitioner ([Removed]) and ended up in the hospital for 5 nights. The nurses (a few who are nice) do not have a competent Director to help them problem solve and get ahead of issues. Even after all of this, we never received one call from HC resort asking how my mother was doing. When we arrived at the hospital, we finally felt safe and were so grateful that we never had to return. It saddens me that a place like this is responsible for the care of our loved ones. They need a major overhaul.

Think twice ... please!

My mom was diagnosed with late onset Alzheimer's in 2016, We moved my mother here in August 2016. From the start we were mislead. My mom was at a rehab facility when we found this place, and since I knew someone who had stayed at a different location I thought this would be a good place. We had to move quickly, unfortunately or I would have kept looking. We paid for a room from the start as we were instructed, but then when they came to get her from the rehab, they told us she would have to go to their extended care facility before she could go to her room. They kept her in there for way too long and it was not until I starte questioning things did they finally move her to her room - see my dad had to pay for the room even though she was not in there; they just did not charge him for the care. They made us provide supplies (diapers, wipes, toilet paper, furniture, etc.), charged us for every little thing and did nothing but up my mother's medications to keep her sedated. This same sedation led to many falls that led to hospital visits (one time surgery) and she could not even keep her eyes open! They also keep raising the price every chance they got. So, after we endured an accident ridden stay here that led to a broken hip, a fractured pelvis, and a cut in her arm that required stiches, we moved out. The new place took her off all the meds they had added here and she could keep her eyes open and actually have a conversation with us again. This was a blessing as soon after we moved out my mom's symptoms accelerated and after 2 months she did not recognize us, her children, and then passed a little over a month later. Cherish the time you have especially if your loved one has Alzheimer's because you do not know if they will know who you are the next time you visit. And, choose a small privately owned facility if you can.

Awful, horrifying place.

I wouldn't drop off my [Removed] here. This is the most unprofessional, uncaring place I have ever seen. I have been here only five hours, and I am utterly horrified by the lack of care. Sent after back surgery. Last pain meds at 3:20pm. I have been here am and crying in pain, yet still no pain meds. I was used to getting the every two hours at that hospital.

Not for the elderly

My mother has dementia and needed a place for rehab after the hospital. The nurses are nice but very understaffed and green. The facility required us to pay for 24/7 care because they could not provide a safe, secure place for a dementia patient, mind you this was after she was there a few days. Once we hired the extra care at $20/hr, they stopped giving her a bath, changing her, etc. They didn't transfer one of her dementia medications on her chart. So my mother was extra agitated and when they thought she was upset they would dope her up on Xanax. My mother also has tremors. They did blood work to see if anything was causing it. They put her on anti tremor medication without authorization from the family. We have tried this in the past and the medication makes her mind even worse. We would have never authorized this. And to top it off, we were told that she could move into the assisted living upstairs because it was basically the same as a memory care center. We went to sign the paperwork and was told they could not provide for her by their arrogant condescending social worker who has gotten all of her life experience from a book. This facility is not for the elderly.

Lazy Lazy Lazy

My sister was in this facility for rehab. The nurses are the laziest people I have ever encountered. They refuse to acknowledge patients and family members who approach the nurses station. Multiple times I saw nurses [Removed] behind doors when someone was approaching their desk. By contrast, OT and PT are excellent. DO NOT let a loved one go to this facility.

Not recommended

Would not recommend this facility. The care is mediocre and their billing department is totally clueless. There are better facilities in Kansas. I was told four times via phone I owed no money, that Medicare and my supplemental insurance paid my bill and I had a zero balance. Then weeks later I got a bill so I took it to the healthcare facility and sat with the billing lady and she said tear it up, you owe nothing. Then I get a letter a few days before Christmas from the Healthcare Resort they are turning me over for collection for nonpayment after five times I was told I owe nothing. This facility has no idea what they are doing.

My mother lives there and they make their elderly walk to get their mail. Most of the tenants are on walkers, have breathing problems or other medical problems. This has been addressed to the new administration and my family was told it would get addressed, but it has not. The weather has changed and it is bitterly cold and they are still expected to walk up and get their mail. There are issues with her cottage and they have yet to fix them. Now that winter has set in, she has cold coming from under her door which she was told in September that it would be taken care of, she has had mice problems, appliance problems, etc. If it was not convenient to her doctors and shopping, we would move her.(We still may) These elderly people have fixed incomes and the rates keep going up and the service keeps getting worse.

Beware

From management to faculty this place is a mess. DON does not care about staff or residents. She does not respond to family concern or needs. It is unclean. There are bed bugs, ants and roaches. The residents and patients are not cared for properly. I highly suggest taking your loved one elsewhere. I would have never chose this place if I knew what I know now.

Did not follow doctors orders from discharge hospital

The facility is beautiful and there seem to be very good nurses. My father went for rehab after a hospital stay. He has many health issues that require close monitoring of his blood pressure and fluid intake. The doctor on premise did not follow the discharge orders from the hospital and changed parameters on my father's medication and his fluid intake. Within 3 days my father was sent to the ER with issues caused by these changes. I immediately packed up his belongings and he will rehab at a different facility.

Terrible place

My mom is here and it is terrible! The toilet was clogged, they didn't bring her any food, her colostomy bag leaked and they never came to help her. A sliding glass door blew out and the opening was left for hours until the repair man came in the afternoon. I changed mom's clothes twice because of leaking bag. No help from staff.

Rude uncaring staff

This place is a disaster. No one communicates with each other and everyone is doing their own thing. The receptionist is rude and has a chip on her shoulder. The other staff runn around like chickens with their heads cut off and and never get anything done - The director of nursing does not seem to care about the residents and more about making an impression with her staff. My mother will never come to this place again and I will make sure that her friends do no either.

Incompetent staff

My mother was referred there after her open heart surgery. (1) the place is a dump. They are supposedly undergoing renovations but in the 10 days that she was there I never saw any work being done. Her toilet that she shared with 4 other people was broken for two weeks and non one fixed it til I told them. (2) there is no security. I walked in at 9:30 at night . There were no staff on the floor at all. (3) no alarms on the glass sliding doors in the patients rooms. I found that my mothers was unlocked.(4) the nursing staff had some nice people, but the ones who were uncaring were very mean and unsympathetic. (5) the nursing staff kept with holding my mothers pain medication for unknown reasons. When I had the staff call the nursing director so that I could report to her about the medication she admitted she had no idea why they were withholding her pain medication!! In fact there were several things I brought up to the nursing director that she seemed to be unaware of.

Atrocious facility

My mom was moved here after the flood in Boulder pretty much destroyed Frasier Meadows, the nursing where she lived for 8 years. She died within 6 weeks, in my opinion, due to the awful care she received at this facility. Everybody at Villas is very nice. They're friendly, courteous, and, on the surface, they appear to do their jobs. Unfortunately, every single staff individual I had contact with here were merely paper pushers, every one, without exception. However, they are supposed to be caregivers. Despite assurances to the contrary, mom was insufficienly nourished, dehydrated, and had an awful infection on her foot. All of this went unnoticed, until it was too late. Her last week was spent in hospice. Please do not send anyone you care about to this excuse for a care giving facility.
