From the moment we walked in to Potomac Place my husband and I knew this was the place for his mom. It did not look like an assisted living center from the outside it looked like an apartment building. The staff is friendly and helpful. The dining room is spacious and has a beautiful view and my mother-in-law loves the food. Their are all sorts of activities for every taste and my mother-in-law is more active then she has been in years. Additional the rooms are a good size. My mother-in-law is in a studio which is bigger then most one bedrooms we saw in other places. A 24 hour nursing staff and a doctor that comes to the facility is an added bonus. She couldn't be happier and frequently comments on what a top notch place she lives.

I have been very pleased. The staff is great, it's very clean. The apartment is a good size. They were even great working with us before we moved in. We are very happy with them.

Mennowood feels like family. My mother is thrilled to be a part of this community. We have been very impressed with their approach to individual needs. I would highly recommend this community to my friends.

Very nice but doesn't allow pets and there are no studio units.

It has only been 2 1/2 weeks and our 92 year old parent is absolutely thrilled with everything at Chesterbrook Residences. His only complaint is that he is eating too much.

My grandmother recently moved here and after the first week, it has really been a good place. The lady who helped get us settled in, kept checking on her which is nice. My grandma is shy so she keeps to herself. They have an activities manager that has actually gotten her out of her room and had her participate in activities. I personally walked around and talked to a few residents and they are lovely. I also visited around dinnertime and it seemed most everyone ate dinner together. She is in the independent living, so it's nice that they are off on another wing. There is a courtyard that backs up to her room so she can just step right outside for some fresh air. Overall, this has been one of the best places in Newport News :)

We are very happy with it, so far. The staff is very friendly, and helpful too. They are very good about responding, they are pretty instant when getting back to me. The rooms could be a little larger. They are all pretty much the same size, even the two bedrooms don't have much more living space, just an extra room.

my favorite so far, just concerned about traffic on 95. Love the atmosphere, the people, the living space which is like an apartment instead of like a hotel or dorm room - even has full sized fridge. It looks like Little Rock, AR with the wooded outdoors. Love the gardening troughs that minimize kneeling.

It's a great community, and it's lovely inside. They have a trained chef and they are always very very good, and they always have choices. They have a lot of activities, and they are great. My mom is 91 and in kind of frail health, and I can still never find her, she is always busy doing the activities. They have lots of doctors, and a podiatrist, there are always several nurses on staff 24-7. They have lots of religious services, which are important to her, musical activities, a theater with a movie every night. It's just a really good place.

The staff really make this a caring environment. I couldn't have found a better place for my mother. Every time I visit her, I feel the warmth of the community and she is happy, too.

my mom has lived at Potomac Place since late 2012 and it has been the best thing for her. She loves her new home. I cant thank everyone there enough for bringing my mom back to life. When I eventually have to move into an Assisted living community I will look no further than Potomac Place.

We started using Mennowood as a weekend respite for our mother who is 89 and has some dementia. Everyone was friendly, kind, caring and professional. They took very good care of our mother. Everyone remembered her and her needs each time we went. So when we determined it was time for her to have continuing care that we could no longer provide for her, we turned to Mennowood. We believe it is because of their staff that our mother made such a good transition to living there. There are many activities which they ensure she has the opportunity to participate in (and she does). The meals are very nice and each person is given personal attention by the wait staff. Every thing is always clean and tidy. The building looks more like a home than a facility. We have the highest regard for everyone at Mennowood and recommend that you consider making an appointment to see if it meets the needs of your loved one.

Tall Oaks is doing really well, we would just give them the highest marks, they're doing a beutiful job. I'm just so blessed, we searched high and hard and long, I think I looked at 20 different places and Tall Oaks was jsut head and shoulders above everything. VITAS hospice came when my father was dying and they agreed that of all the places the go and visit, that Tall Oaks was awesome. A lot of places wouldn't have let him stay there until he passed and they were just awesome. We have the very highest marks for Tall Oaks, now that my father has passed away my mother has deteriorated rapidily and it's hard to see her like that but we knew that she's in the best place possible. They made the best assessment and they said that if my father and mother wanted to be in the same room, they would both have to be in lockdown and my father flatly refused to go. I am a religious person and I prayed a lot about this decision and this is a Godly, awesome, wonderful place. They just go above and beyond, we just think the best of it.

It's great, it's a wonderful place, they bend over backwards to help you, the people are great, the director, John is fabulous. I can only gush and rave that it is a wonderful place. He was only here a week, and they do have the admin fee of about 300 dollars up front that's supposedly not refundable but John said he would get it back for us. They are very user friendly and wonderful. The places come unfurnished but John said they had some furniture that we could have, they just went all out to make us happy. This was closer to us also and the physician that serviced it was already his doctor so that made it easier too.

Tall Oaks is a sweet place for sure. Staff upbeat and caring. All needs we have can be met. outdoor walking is not the best as it has no secure area and walking would be something I would be concerned with although they do have inside tread mill.

We chose this community because we were looking for a place for our mom and this one was in a convenient location. It is located in the same area that the family home is in. The staff is really friendly and the community is very clean. So far she likes it here and we would recommend them to anyone. It was what we needed at the right time.

Chesterbrook - great location, great facility. Well maintained, clean, fresh.

Staff is a 10 out of 10, mom is in memory care which they provide music and singling for activities as well as arts and craft. Mom is pretty picking when it comes to food, but they accommodate to what she likes. Her room size is a pretty good. What stood out to us most is the value of this community, would recommend this to family. Staff is very attentive!

The staff is upbeat and caring. They really take time to learn the names of residents and to relate to them on an individual basis. They are happy to answer the questions of family members and to communicate ways to improve the quality of life for the resident. They work hard to engage and to include residents in activities, which are numerous and varied.

I also really like Potomac Place. It is close to my home, closer to my price range, and very nice. I will definably consider it when the time comes.
