Review for Brickmont of John's Creek

This place is good for people who may need assistance here and there, but they didn't have the capacity to help for full care, but that may have changed since we've been there. They're operated by a different company now. Food was fantastic. Most of the staff were very good with caring for my dad's needs. In my experience we had some of the best male caregivers. There were a lot of people there, which helped for socialization.

Review for Brickmont of Acworth

The facility is a nice place. The staff is nice and very helpful but short staffed. This poses a challenge when trying to manage less independent residents! This is to be expected since they are under new management but I'm hoping and looking forward to it getting better in the future. The food is horrible...I have voiced this before and change has not been to our liking but will continue to advocate for better quality and prepared food. Otherwise, my Mom loves it and hoping to see more positive changes in the future.

It's difficult to have a phone call answered unless M-F business hours and then the message left is most often never returned. Certainly not the level of care and concern from the staff I thought initially during my tour of the facility.

Good, not great

My dad is happy with his personal space. Partially because we got the larger unit with 2 rooms and partially because he doesn't leave his room very often. He's lost interest in trying to meet and get to know his neighbors and the staff doesn't push to get him involved. He'd rather keep to himself than mingle with the others. The facility itself is kept clean and looks nice. The cleaning that my dad's room gets has been marginal. Quality of care - I'd say this has been marginal. They showed more attention in the first few months. They show up to take his dinner order and give him his meds, not much else. Their head administrator quit after we were there 1 month which threw things into a bit of disarray. The sales rep was very nice and informative. They recently sold the property to a new parent company and increased the rent almost immediately. That is a concern. Will they do this every year? I don't hear from them unless they need something. My dad is not happy with the food. Activities - They have some, but my dad doesn't seem too interested in participating. The only thing he asked for was a group to play bridge with. They never transpired. They had a social coordinator when we moved in, but she took a new position. I have no idea if the social role was filled. Value for cost - ) I would say we overpay for what we get. One of the reasons I chose this place is because they don't have tiers of care where they can up your costs based on the care they feel you need. Of course, we were there less than a year before the costs went up. I'm not happy about that.

Pros and cons

It's a beautiful and clean facility. The staff did a good job taking care of our dad. We are very thankful! We would recommend more social activities and interactions with the residents, though. We would also recommend better email and/or phone communication with the nursing and administrative staff.

Our experience with memory care

My grandma was in memory care. I wish they had more activities. They really didn't have any at all. I wish they washed her clothes more often. I would see clothes hanging in her closet with good and stains. I think in memory care specifically, they need more help. Everyone was very nice but just spread thin. I think the independent side is probably great because it requires less. For memory care, I would spend a little more to have your loved one in a place where they can be more attentive. I came to visit at least 3 times/wk and would check her out at least once. If I didn't do that, there would be nothing for her to do.

Lovely facility, but many transitions

The facility is lovely. My parents were there when there was a change in management for the facility. In the time after the switch, we didn't see all the improvements the new company promised. They seemed to have issues with backfilling positions when employees were ill, on vacation, etc.. The director of the facility was not exceptionally friendly or approachable. There were definite communication problems between both in-house staff and, for example, the hospice nurse and the facility nurse.

"Lovely Building, Poor Care Plan Coordination

The price of Brickmont is inclusive of enhanced levels of care when needed. But repeated verbal and emailed requests from my brother and me for enhanced care over the course of three months were not met. Near my mother's death I was told by the executive director that in order to receive needed care, her care plan had to be re written and submitted to the charge nurse. I wondered why no one had explained that at intake, or in response to our repeated requests. But I was grateful that the executive director helped me write up the new care plan, and asked the charge nurse to meet with me. The charge nurse ate her lunch while meeting with me. She told me her life story and expressed empathy, but she said she could not implement the plan for at least 10 days (this was date removed). The plan was never implemented. My mother died on [date removed] I have to reiterate that we asked for a new care plan verbally and by email for months and were never told how to write a request, or how submit it for months. My mother suffered because needed care was never provided.

Never recommend

I would not recommend that place to my worst enemy I believe they were getting bought out after we moved mom out Since Brickmont does not have the tier levels of care, there were so many people in there that belong in nursing homes, that it was so sad. The activities guy [name removed] is amazing. He just didn't have a budget to do anything. They would go to lunch once in a while, but they had him on a short leash, which is a shame because he was really nice. The food was powdered milk and powdered eggs, it was just awful food. They would never let family eat in the dining hall with the residents. I was bringing my mom dinner three nights a week because she couldn't stand the food or sitting in the dining hall with all of the people slumped over in their chairs sleeping. Very depressing.

If all you need is some one to feed and set your loved one in front of the TV, thus is the place. If your loved one needs additional attention I would not recommend this facility. I had to pay for 24 hour a day sitters the entire month we were there.

Review for Brickmont of Acworth

The price is fair compared to others. The food that is served also seems to be pretty good and a variety. The community space is also nice however housekeeping for the rooms is not very good. I noticed his room is off and dirty. They don't clean the counters in the rooms or mop the floors. My other complaint is that even though my father is an assisted living and now in a wheelchair they never take the time to bring him for any activities. All he does is just sit in his room and sleep. I have spoken to the activity director on numerous occasions and he never seems to step up or help I've also mentioned it to the director. They have a nurse practitioner on staff that just gives him medication and never communicates with the family as to what they're giving him or why. This is why I gave the property a three.

All that glitters is not gold.

Big promises, once in there things change. Family brought two relatives as residents one in assisted living and one in memory care. We worked out a deal that would make it possible to fit their budgets. Having them both under the same roof made it easier for us to care for them instead of two different place because one could be really strained financially if they didn't make a deal with us. The director that understood our situation has left, the new director knows of our arrangement but when they went up on the rate for our relative - the billing couldn't sort this out. Like other reviews the billing is almost non existent except to take their money. The director says they only communicate with billing via email and no phone number was provided or email to us. I call BS! As far as the staff they are very professional and friendly. The place is clean all though on a recent visit in the assisted living are is had a strong hint of urine in the air. Food looks good. Billing stinks!!!

It has its pros and cons

My mom passed away back in December. The one aid she had was nice and kind to her. Didn't get to know the other ones cause as soon as I did they did a change they switched directors and either let go of aids are moved them so it was kind of confusing half the time. The place was nice but because of all the moving people aids I'm not sure I would recommend it. Old people need stability. I would like to hope that most of the same staff is still there but the staff chanced hands twice while my mother was there and she was only there a year. It was affordable at the time.

not what I expected

Nurse in charge was difficult to get in touch with at times. I felt she had a lot to keep up with being just her. My dad was there because his wife was in hospital and he needed to be looked after due to his stroke. Because he didn't ask for anything I felt like he was just left to himself. I had to ask for his sheets to be changed as they were not doing it initially. Also there was some confusion on the payment of his bill. The wife was supposed to take care of it but did not get the statement and by the time I was notified they were threatening eviction which I was upset about. The office manager was very rude. I would not bring my father there again.
