We were extremely happy in the beginning and now we are suspecting things are not up to par. The facility is beautiful but starting to question the care. Laundry is piled up, room smells like urine and old feces. It appears to me they want to medicate the ones that have their minds and wants everyone completely sedated.

Unqualified care

Wiltshire looked good to me but once we got in the care is very below average. If somebody needs a lot of care this is not the place to go. The food is uneditable. But it's mostly the care is lacking if someone needs help with diabetes or other serious ailments.

Turnover affected the care.

There was a lot of employee turnover. We felt that our loved one wasn’t getting the care she needed. Part of that was her - when they asked if she needed anything, she would say no, and then they would just leave. So she needed more attention, and employee turnover prevented that.

Care is deteriorating

My mother was in this facility pre Covid and we couldn't have been happier with her care. But since the pandemic ended the staff turnover has left the care unacceptable for our family. Our mother was left in a wet bed so often we had to change her mattress and when we moved her the sheets smelled of urine and there was a dirty diaper under her bed. There is no art or music therapy and the new staff try hard but are in need of training on working with those suffering from dementia. We tried to get a care plan for our mother for over a month with no success.

Would not recommend for Alzheimers

The director of marketing was brand new, it was only her second day on the job when she met with us. We told her that my loved one had dementia and that her Alzheimer's had gotten to the point where I could not take care of her. She assured us that they would take of her and that there were activities to do. On day 5, she called us and said that we needed to find mom a different place to live and that they could not deal with Alzheimer's. They gave us the impression that they were more than willing to care for her but we were very disappointed in the whole experience. It may work for some, but not for others.

A Place to Stay Away From

It was a terrible experience. My loved one was not well taken care of at all. He was only there for eight days, and four of those days he did not receive his medications. They had lots of good activities that went on, but they didn't make sure that my loved one was included. The cost was the most reasonable of any place that I looked at; however, you get what you pay for.

Beware the contract!

Look at the reviews and watch the decline over time. My Mom was there for almost 4 years. We had a good experience at first, but staff turnover was depressing. I don’t think I would choose this place today, although COVID impairs my objectivity. My experience with the director was not positive, in contrast to earlier directors. Families should be aware that the contract requires payment for 15 days beyond death. This policy is exploitative IMO. If they require more money, raise the rate, don’t charge room and board to dead people.

Do Not Recommend

There was one nurse that was really good to my grandma. Other than that, I feel like the staff [removed] her and she left with dehydration and pneumonia. It was assisted living, but I don't see how she could have come in and then leave a month later with dehydration and pneumonia. I really don't have any good things to say about them. It was clean on the first floor, but the rest of place is filthy. My overall experience was awful and I would never suggest anyone to go there.

Very Disappointed

Mama wasn't there two weeks. When we originally toured the facility it was in better shape than when we were finally able to move mama to assisted care. The memory unit was much worse than when we first visited. When I went to see her one time she was hanging half out of the bed and half in and her pants were twisted tightly around her knee and the lower part of her leg was swollen. The following time I visited they were having 'prom' for the assisted patients. My mom said she hadn't eaten and was hungry and hadn't gone to the party. My family took her to the party and she was definitely hungry. Very disappointed with the care and the reaction of the admin when we spoke to them about things.

Would not recommend

We were not pleased with Wickshire. We feel that the staff here kept our loved one over-medicated so that they would be sedated and less of a problem. When we said something was wrong to them - they blew us off all the way up until the time that they called the ambulance. We went to see our loved one and all of us knew something was clearly wrong. The hospital found that the medications had built up in our loved ones system. Then they would not take our loved ones back. When we expressed concerns about our loves ones health, the staff said they checked, but in truth ignored our concerns and did not listen to us.

No Longer a place I can recommend

My mother was here for just over 3 years. The first 18 months was mostly good. The staff was consistent and when you had an issue it would be addressed. But the last 18 months the turn over among ALL the staff was constant. There have been 3 directors, 4 nurses, 3-4 activity directors and all the CNA's have changed and often. They went months without a nurse at all. The latest director has been the worst director so far. We attempted to get help from corporate many times to no avail. The care was so bad we decided to put in the 30 notice and move mom to a different facility. Prior to the 30 days being up, she had a bed sore so bad we took her to the hospital where she stayed 3 days. She was in such bad shape, we did not feel we could take her back to Autumn Leaves. She passed away 7 days later. Per the contract, since she passed, we should be reimbursed for 2 days of care. But they refuse to reimburse us now. After 39 months they want to refuse 2 days.

Be Aware

My wife had been at Autumn Leaves for over 2 years. I recently moved her. On the positive, the office, marketing, and activities staff have been at Autumn Leaves for a long time and are good. The health director is new but in my limited experience is excellent and cares. I hope she stays. The caregivers and nursing staff as a whole care and really try. Management is taking new residents with significant behavioral / health issues and that with the normal deteriation of mental / health of long-term residents, in my opinion, combines to seriously overburden the caregivers which are staffed at the minimum levels required by the State of Oklahoma for an assisted living facility. The problem is that many of the residents need a lot more help that is normally required in a regular assisted living facility. The result is very high turnover and 'call ins / no shows' of caregivers and nursing staff in an industry known for its high turnover to begin with. This result in the community is turmoil, confusion, inconsistent care, and sometimes inadequate care especially where personalized care is needed. I lbelieve the problem is not enough staff to adequately care for the number of residents with their behavioral / health issues that are present at Autumn Leaves. Management will tell you Autumn Leaves is adequately staffed. I would recommend they take the place of a caregiver for a week and then tell me Autumn Leaves is adequately staffed. At first Autumn Leaves was good. In January 2014 it was told to us that [removed]. Management handled the situation poorly and in my opinion Autumn Leaves has been in a state of turmoil and decline since. [removed]. I left as soon as I could make other arrangements for my wife. I had been unhappy with the care and had concern for the safety of my wife and should have left a long time ago. Autumn Leaves might be a facility to consider if: 1) Your loved one has significant behavoral / health problems in addition to dementia. 2) You don't mind paying a good price for at best fair care. Autumn Leaves uses the slogan; "Our family taking care of your family." It may have started as a family endeavor but it is now a corporation with many facilities across the country. Based on my experience with Autumn Leaves in Tulsa, I would change the slogan to say; "Our corporation making sure we and management are taken care of." Be aware.

Previous experience

Mom has Alzheimer's. The Director of Sales (not sure if that title is correct) was new at the time, and she assured us that they were qualified to care for Alzheimer's residents, and there were activities throughout the day that they could involve her in. Five days after Mom moved in, we got a call from the Director of Admissions saying they were not qualified to care for Alzheimer's residents and we had two weeks to move her to a different facility. They did not involve her in activities throut the day, and one nurse even told us that Mom just stayed by the front door all day. After we moved Mom, we requested a refund from Heritage Village for the balance of the month. By then there was also a new Director of Admissions. We were told we had to contact the national office. Finally, six months later, we got our refund. Because there was so much turnover in staff, we did not have a good experience with Heritage Village. I hope they have improved since then. The only other thing I can think of to add is that while Mom was there, they had to treat the room next to her for bedbugs, but I know from my interviews with other facilities that bedbugs could show up at any facility.

No trained caregivers

My husband didn't get good care. The whole thing was a sham costing many thousands. No real care. He was healthy when entering and died after after hospitalization 5 weeks later. There are no trained caregivers. There was no offer of water or group activity. One person put her feet up and scrolled on her phone. She had just been asked to work a double shift and was the only caregiver around.

Do not recommend - lack of care

That place was horrible! They had no emergency devices for patients to call the nurse. They were there but they were in operable. My mom was there for two weeks before we moved her to her house because she was getting horrible care forced to sit in a large cold room with every other patient in the place staring at one TV show not of her choice. Meanwhile they couldn't get any cable in her room for the entire two weeks enter calls for assistance and answered. To top that they recommended hospice was absolutely atrocious! Within two weeks of mom going home these women were threatening to force my father to send my mom back to known memory care Saying that he wasn't caring for her properly. They were promptly fired and green country hospice was hired who are absolutely amazing! Zero isn't an option eh? The facility is fine itself as far as the staff who clean and help. The admin is scammy. We felt like their recommended hospice was basically trying to scam us into taking her back there because dads care was better than most would do. The lack of emergency call equipment and moving all patients into one cold community room so they could be watched easier than being in their rooms is just wrong. Mom was introverted and didn't like that at all. They are more there for themselves than the patients. And that's not the caregivers it's the admin making those decisions. So give it a 1.
