A Place for Mom has scored Bonaventure with 8.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 329 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Bonaventure has 874 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 3.6 out of 5.
I was very impressed with this place during the move in process. They were so helpful and kind and made me feel more then comfortable moving my mother in. After a couple weeks though my mother began complaining that she didn't feel comfortable, that the staff rushed her, and there was even a incident where the had mixed up my mother's medication. The end experience was a waste of time and money. I think this place is a great retirement home but is not suitable for a assisted living facility. I moved my mom out after 3 months.

New construction was clean and beautiful, with a lobby like a nice hotel. On a bright day, I saw many residents at lunch in the dining room chatting happily. In memory care, 2 young aides very sweet and pleasant add they talked with residents, helping one find her room and another how to use her walker. However, the young woman who gave me the tour was was disorganized, did not have prepared materials, was new to Washington and could not answer many of my questions. I was unable to meet the nurse who supervised assisted living or memory care. I was told that while they had a Medicaid contract they could not in any way promise they would accept a resident for Medicaid. This seems like a good place for living but I did not feel confident about placing my parents, who need assisted living and will continue to need more health care, here.

Wow. I was promised the moon by the marketer If I signed the contract that day. I could not believe my ears!! The verbal promises were not in the contract and could not be made in writing. Oswego Place is a beautiful building, nice dining rooms, the residents seemed happy, there was a full activities calendar. Looked good. It was the sales tactics used that sent me running out the door.

Be very careful before agreeing to move your loved one into any Bonaventure facility. Get everything the administration promises in writing! If you don't, they will deny having said what you know they said. The care staff at Gibson Creek are awesome, kind & loving people. Unfortunately, there aren't enough caregivers to go around. If you are thinking of placing a loved one at Gibson Creek, be prepared to be on site at least every other day & call your loved one each day to confirm that they received their medications & any other care that is expected, such as a shower on their shower day. The worst thing about Gibson Creek is the corporate administration at Bonaventure. They have made it perfectly clear that our loved one is nothing more than a number with dollar signs attached. When the time came to move our loved one into a smaller apartment, the Chief Operations Officer for Bonaventure demanded that the move take place the following day & without taking into consideration whether or not the building staff would have the ability to make the move a safe transition for our loved one. On that day, the staff was stretched very thin. They had a 3 hour special Mother's Day luncheon for the residents & their families, which included tours of the building. The Bonaventure, Chief Operations Officer, the Chief Financial Officer & the Regional Director of Operations all participated in the decision to make the move that day. They all knew that none of our family could be there during that day. When I arrived that evening after work, I found our loved one & her belongings had been dumped into the room in such a haphazard way that she was in an unsafe environment. The only place she had to sit was the seat of her walker. They hadn't left enough space for her to move her walker into a position that would have allowed her to get into her chair. There were empty boxes, a broom & a lamp with it's electrical cord in the walk-way. All sever trip hazards for a nearly blind person. The worst thing was they had left the emergency call button laying on the floor under a pile of her clothes. After making the room safe for her, I went in search of caregivers to ask them to keep an eye on her & to help me move some of the bigger furniture out of her way. The caregivers didn't even know that she was still in the building or that anyone was in that room. If I hadn't been able to get there that evening & if she would have fallen, she would not have been able to call for help & no staff would have known to check in on her. They didn't even give her enough respect to have window coverings to provide privacy or closet doors for 2 days. How would you have felt, if you had entrusted the care of your 97 year old, nearly blind & deaf, 92 pound grandmother to a corporation who would abandon her to fend for herself in those conditions with no means of calling out for help?

I have had a really bad experience with them, and continued frustration. For anybody who is going to use a Bonaventure property, make sure you have everything in writing and be prepared to be on site at least every other day and make sure your loved one is getting the care they need. They are understaffed, the chief operations manager make tyrants look like saints and seems to treat the building staff accordingly. We had to change rooms, and they knew that I wouldn't be available the day it needed to happen. When I arrived later that day, I found that all of her belongings had been put in the room and she was in an unsafe environment. There were empty boxes and electrical cords in the walkway. She had nowhere to sit, because she couldn't get her walker to her one chair. The emergency button cord was on the floor, underneath some of her belongings, and the staff on duty didn't even know she was still living in the building. If I had not been able to get there that evening, they would not have even know if she had fallen, and she would have had no emergency cord and no phone, and no one would have even known to look for her. She is 97 almost blind and deaf and left in that unsafe situation. The activities don't really apply to us. Getting medication on time is a challenge, getting showers is a challenge. They are understaffed and the caregivers are stretched really thin. The caregivers are awesome kind loving people. They are really good about smiling and nodding like a bobble heads.

They are clean and friendly. However, they let our resident run out of ALL of her medication, EVERYTHING was gone. There have been times when I was there and nobody even came by when we pulled the cord and pushed the button, we eventually ended up at the front desk. Their R.N. quit, and I am not aware if they have a new one yet, no one has introduced themselves. It looked great when we toured, but the food was cold when we tried it, and we get complaints that the food is terrible. The activities schedule seems great, but I don't think our resident participates. It would have been helpful if they had given us a checklist of things we would need to have together before we came, they told us some things, but there was a lot we didn't know. We initially were pretty happy with Woodland, until a few of these things started to happen. We liked that it was open and airy and that the staff was very friendly.

Our loved one was put here by a different location of Bonaventure, and it was supposed to be temporary. It was far away from our family, in another state. We decided we didn't want our loved one that far away even temporarily, they made us come and get our loved one, and then wouldn't turn his records over when he needed to be moved. This was just not a good experience for us.

We did not have a good experience with them. We were set to move in and they told us that the person we were waiting on to move out hadn't moved out yet. They put our loved one at another facility, pretty far away temporarily while we waited for them to vacate. That was a lie, they actually had some violations that meant they weren't allowed to accept new residents, until it was cleared up. Then we ended up having to go to where they had moved our loved one and get him to get out of that community.

Looked great at the entrance and in the dining room, very large. When we went to look at rooms the first one was a shared one for my mom and it smelled, someone had not been there to clean the bathroom. There were two separate rooms but did not have doors and also the wall did not reach the ceiling so I would assume if one tenant had noise such as a tv then the other would hear it too. No furnishings are included and no real closet, for as young as this building is it seemed old.

My mother moved to Olympic Place 3 1/2 years ago and seems fairly happy there. However, since she has dementia, the rates have increased substantially, which is understandable. A few months ago, we were told she needed more care, and that her rent would go up by $1000 per month. I was sent 4 e-mails in 3 days, insisting I sign her care agreement right away, so they could start charging more. (Many things wrong on it, so they had to be corrected first.) It wasn't until months later that I found out she was being billed $1700 extra instead. (We have an auto pay set up, and have NEVER gotten statements.) They then said she needed more care than expected. Then a few weeks ago, we were told she would need to be moved again, (the 3rd apt for her!) and it would be completely set up during lunch. When I questioned their ability to get it done in time, the manager assured me that it would be completely done, with her pictures hung, etc. Well, didn't happen. When Mom arrived after lunch at her "new" apartment, there were boxes everywhere and no pictures hung, and Mom wouldn't allow them to finish. Because of her dementia, she now thinks she is moving out, and repacks every day. My brother and I just spent a week with her (we both live in Arizona) and spent much of our time unpacking her each day. We also unpacked the original boxes still sitting there for weeks, and found food, dirty clothes, and even toilet paper that she thought she was out of. We were also told her rent would go DOWN by $600, because the apt. was smaller, which didn't happen! They now say she needs more care because of her confusion about moving, which would most likely NOT have happened if they had totally unpacked her as they had said they would do. The staff there is directly responsible for my mother's added confusion about the move, and we now are being charged for their incompetence! Sure doesn't seem fair to me. The food is pretty bad, as many others have stated. Also, not enough kitchen help, which my very sweet and easy going mother even complains about. I once asked for a sandwich to be sent up to Mom because she was sick. It took over an hour to arrive and was so dried out it was inedible. The wing she is now in (for people who need extra help) smelled like urine every time we walked down the hall, and her apt. smelled so bad we thought a previous tenant's cat must have urinated in the closet! The place is NOT clean when it smells like that! In her last apt, I begged several times for them to move her couch and clean behind it. Never happened. The communication with management has been almost nonexistent, with me seldom getting replies to my e-mails. They have promised to try to do better. If I had it to do over, we never would have put Mom there, but after paying a very large non-refundable deposit, and knowing it would upset Mom more to move, we are stuck with them. I will be taking my complaints as high up in management as I can go. We feel that we have been lied to about pricing, among many other things.

Mom has been there about two years and has seen continual staff turnover. Managers, cooks, servers, caregivers, housekeepers, so many good people get fed up and quit. Food is fair at best, often out of things. Cleaning has gotten pretty bad as well. Mom is independent and paying a lot for a nice apartment, but poor food, slow service, minimal housekeeping.

My Mom has been in Castle Rock Bonaventure for 18 months. The turn over in staff is tremendous; I've seen 3 directors and at least 4 who were head of assisted living; many many chefs and med techs since she arrived. At first I thought that the staff was not well trained, but over time began to realize that Bonaventure corporate is a terrible company who doesn't treat their employees well; and they appear to not have any procedures and processes in place. Unfortunately, Bonaventure is the only affordable option for my Mom. The food is not very good, and I have to monitor EVERYthing. That said, my mother has made friends and, except for the food, seems to be happy at Bonaventure. I would not recommend Bonaventure from a caregiver's perspective because it has been a tremendous amount of work for me.

The administration was really horrific to work with. They were very passive aggressive with my Grandmother. They could work on behaving more professionally. My Grandmother never actually received any paper invoices via the mail... though, she tried to resolve this many times. I would assume this is some sort of book keeping error/process error? In person they would tell her how much she owed each month and she would then write a check to them onsite. Food was a big problem... my Grandfather was on a dysphagia pureed diet and they were just feeding him whatever they fed everyone else just cut up. Often the food was quite hard/difficult to chew, also was cold and was a definite aspiration risk. They were making no effort to accommodate his diet and yet charging my Grandmother extra for his diet... yet, not actually feeding him according to his orders. At one point he needed assistance with meals and they did not have the staff to accommodate this. They told us we would need to hire an outside agency for this. The outside agencies we could find wanted 4 hour minimum shifts and were booked a month in advance.. so it just wasn't practical for many reasons. Bonaventure advertised as being a memory care unit... but, then didn't have the staff to assist him with his needs. Needing assistance with meals is a common need for patients with Dementia. My Grandfather lost about 20lbs in the care of Bonaventure... he would have wasted away if we hadn't pulled him out and engaged in home care. Cleanliness: my Grandmother witnessed multiple weeks when his trash was not taken out for two weeks at a time. As well as the floor being sticky in his room... when your shoes stick to the ground it's generally a sign that the floor isn't clean. I personally witnessed my grandfather soiling himself in the restroom and the staff couldn't find gloves to protect themselves. The staff member that cleaned up my Grandfathers diarrhea that was on his clothes and the floor... did so with one glove. As a nurse, this was traumatic to witness to say the least. In their contract it stated that the residents were to receive 2 baths/showers per week. We got a call from a home health nurse that visited him who had high concern that he wasn't being bathed properly as he smelled and looked quite unkept. Lastly, I just need to mention. After my Grandfather moved out... the administration of the Salmon creek Bonaventure passive aggressively threatened my Grandma that if she left even one belonging in his room they would continue to charge her for the entire month under the assumption that he was coming back... despite receiving written notification of his move out 30days in advance. I have never seen my Grandmother so stressed in my life... she was often crying and deeply concerned about leaving the shower curtain in the room... under the assumption it was provided by the facility. FYI, they also do not provide a single personal care item including toilet paper... even though in their contract it stated that they provided personal care toiletries. The staff that actually cared for my a grandfather where really lovely, friendly and worked hard. I personally heard one denying her lunch break because she had too much work to do. They clearly were doing the best they could... but, were stretched thin. The problem with Bonaventure is clearly administration.

They can't keep any good staff and most of them have no medical background. I feel like they are a sinking ship and they are desperately trying to keep people from leaving.

The reviews are good online but since those reviews they have a whole new incompetent management team. From day one we were misinformed, numerous problems every day that never got solved, it is a horrible place to go. Severely understaffed and untrained care givers. It took a letter to the CEO of Bonaventure to get things rolling and then we left that place as soon as we could! We could go on and on and on of the issues we've had there, I'm telling you do not let anyone stay there. It is a bait and switch con job to get you there, sure it looks beautiful but looks were very deceiving. Can you imagine having your loved one stay there for 5 days with no phone, a broken heater that didn't get fixed for 8 days, the most unskilled caregivers and on and on and on.
