Families considering senior living options in Mississippi will be greeted by warm temperatures and a landscape defined by the Mississippi and Yazoo rivers. Elevation is low throughout the state, with some small hills in the northeast section. The state’s climate becomes increasingly tropical as you travel south toward the beaches of Bay St. Louis along the Gulf Coast. Along with the Southern charm of its cities like Jackson and Biloxi, Mississippi’s pleasant weather and affordable living costs — the lowest of any U.S. state — make the Magnolia State an ideal retirement destination.
Currently, A Place for Mom partners with more than 20 senior living communities in Mississippi that provide memory care.
The median monthly cost of memory care in Mississippi is about $4,100.
We have had connections with Meridian Living for a little over a year now, my sister n law is a resident there. We have been kept in formed of every matter & they have been so very helpful & we are so...
The staff are incredibly professional and based on the experience we have had so far, we would absolutely recommend The Orchard community to other families.
I chose Madison Home Place because it is the ONLY place that I didn't get a single negative comment about the staff. The food could use a little tweaking, but my main concern is the people that I have...
My loved one is currently a resident at Trustwell at Shelby Gardens Place and the experience has been mostly great so far. They take great care of my loved one and we love the facility so far. This is a true...

It's a great place but pay close attention before signing any leases on the money side. Things get added on that unless you go over all the details you will not know what's being charged. The thing we like...
It's a great community, of course as everyone else at this time, the staffing shortages effect them too. So, be aware of that going in and don't have high expectations with staffing because everyone is...

In Mississippi, memory care communities are licensed as a specialized form of assisted living. This means that communities offering memory care must maintain the licensing requirements for assisted living in Mississippi plus additional requirements.
A Mississippi assisted living community is referred to as a “personal care home.” Mississippi offers two types of licenses: “Residential living” refers to a care home in a neighborhood, and “assisted living” is a larger community setting that also provides some medical services. Either type of personal care home can apply for an Alzheimer’s Disease/Dementia Care Unit. All licensing is through the Mississippi State Department of Health.
Memory care communities need to meet the following requirements:[01]
Communities are inspected before they’re given a license. After that, inspections are performed as directed by the licensing agency. The Mississippi State Department of Health maintains a directory of licensed communities. In the Personal Care Home Facilities section, you can see whether a community is licensed for an Alzheimer’s Disease/Dementia Care Unit.

The Mississippi State Department of Health can provide basic information on licensed communities. However, Mississippi doesn’t have information about inspection reports and violations online. To find more information about a community, reach out to the long-term care ombudsman. Each county has an ombudsman, or you can call the help line at 1-888-844-0041.
