Overall a good community, but communication could be improved

The times I have been able to visit, we have no problem with the cleanliness of the community. Our biggest frustration is that their is no proactive communication especially during this time. The nurses are cool they are good about communication regarding anything medical. It is just the administrators we never really hear from and it takes a few follow ups for them to get back to us.

Looks like the best for food. Also resort quality atmosphere gorgeous grounds. Villa available right across from villa dining - is he fit for a villa? He would have to figure out how to get to main building for activities. (Eyesight assessment?). Or, we could wait for a Suncoast room to become available. CONS: Maybe the complex is too overwhelming. Maybe too high brow for him to be comfortable. Waiting on vacancy. Not sure much pet exposure.

Caring with kindness

We could no longer care for mom at home and we were in another facility that is a BIG corporation in town and all over. Name doesn't count when care is poor. We toured Westminster Manor health center and the cleanliness was noticed along with the staff interaction with residents. Now of course there are"smells" from time to time , but hey, there's a smell at times in my bathroom area too. It's not always roses if you know what I mean? Anyhow, I find them to include residents in daily activities, helping with meals and keeping them engaged as much as possible. All you have to do is ask the staff and they are willing to direct you in the right direction for any issue or administration. Were invited to all care plan meetings too. This has been hard to no longer be able to keep mom home, but sure glad she's here with caring staff.

My Mother Loves The Food

It has been an adjustment for mother to the community, but overall everything is working out pretty well. She is trying to make some new friends, and trying out some of the activities they offer. The community is well-kept, they do keep her room and the community nice and clean. I feel their responsive time for maintenance issues needs to be better. She is pleased with the food. They are providing great to her.

Don't believe it.

After I moved in and recived my first bill, I was told that what Marketing said, even if it is in writing does not mean the same as what is actually what accounting will bill you for, Also I thought I was a guest, until the first of the month when my contract would start, but that is not what I found out when I got my bill even though I recived guest meal tickets from Marketing. I was charged for the room I stayed in, the bill said I had a balance from Sept., even though I was not there, and finally it said I was 30 days past due. I arrived late afternoon on 9/29/2014.Ask to see everything, including their billing system. If I had not been an accountant and worked up the figures myself it would drive someone else up the wall, as it was, I paid the amount I came up with and dropped it in their inbox.

Back to civilization

Westminster Shores is a all inclusive community, church run. I had lived at Westminster Suncoast about 1.5 miles away. At Suncoast I had to buy in, here I was able to rent. I am right on Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg, Fl, is a small town with big town things to do., theatre, museum, Salvaldore Dali, Fine Arts, Chullly, Holacost, etc. Tampa airport is only 20+ miles away and the weather is great. I take 2 meals a day, transportation to Doctors, and shopping is free, entertainment, activities, health professionals. I was lucky that they are renting instead of buying in and loosing all that money. There is another one for seniors, The Princess Martha? downtown St. Pete. that also rents.

Happy

When A Place for Mom contacted me I had already started the search for Independent living for my friend. Confirmation for me that I was headed in the right direction was that the same places I had written down to look at was the same places A Place for Mom gave me. I was even more impressed that the facilities contacted me, inquiring about the need &the amount of need my friend would require. The places were up front whether they could accommodate her needs or not which helped with the selection process. She chose Westminster Shores and is very happy with the location, staff, neighbors and the entire community. I will definitely recommend A Place for Mom to anyone.

Winter escape

They have so much going on with activities, you go to any one thing and its not very well attented because people are so varied and because people are in various conditions and stuff so you don't have a lot of people there. Bingo is still popular, theres a crowd in there, mostly women and they all have white hair, I have no hair so I'll I see is white. Location is ideal so far as I'm concerned, my firneds live in the vicinity so its great. In fact, I'm going there this winter, I can't take Florida summers. I lived in Orlando for a while, and the heat and the bugs I can't handle, so I go in the winter.

Best facility in town for the value. The super elite places may be better but are generally not covered by insurance.

My best friend had a horrible past experience in another skilled nursing facility so we toured the facilities before choosing Westminister Manor Health Center. They were far superior to the other local facilities. It is clean, most of the staff is cheerful and helpful, although they do get frustrated too. The rooms are nice and homey and do not have a hospital feel. The food is decent and they allow you many choices. The physical therapists work hard to help the patients improve. I will mention the one bad review stated mixing rehab patients with long term nursing patients, so I think they may have had mixed up the facility with some other place. This is a rehabilitative skilled nursing facility, not a long term nursing home.

Just Right

My mom and I visited several properties in the area. She had a budget but could afford most. There were fancier places, but they made her feel uncomfortable. After visiting this location, she said she had found the right blend for her. [Removed], our sales representative, was kind, not pushy and honest. My mom suddenly become excited about this stage of her life and all the choices vs. limitations. She's been there for a few months now and has thanked me several times for pushing her to move into an independent living facility. Couldn't be happier that she's happy and safe.

MJB West-Man Review

I am disappointed with the clarity of the facilites medical care and it's certification: to do certain care procedures in Assisted Living. e.g. 1. therapy care and the need for outsides services to continue therapy; what kinds of procedures can/cannot be done in house. 2. Poor communication with the "house " doctor and patient needs. I am still unclear about billing procedures for medicare, pharmacy, housing costs, and rate increases. Have to be vigilant on the costs. I am having 2nd thoughts about Auto-Pay.

Need help? It'll cost you

This is a community for rich people and my mother was not comfortable because of the exorbitant cost. My parents no longer live here, they had to leave. This community would not provide help for my parents including NOT being able to put my dad's wheelchair on the trolley cart - they were not willing to do that. My mother had to go out in the rain multiple times just to get their food because they charged her if it was delivered. They were very rude to my mothers and treated her in a condescending manner, so I don't advocate Westminster!

Westminster Shores review

It's a lovely community and the residents care for one another. The nursing staff in assisted living is overwhelmed and not able to provide the care we pay for. It seems to be a universal problem in every assisted living we've encountered. The care is a mixed bag of bright and compassionate employees who go above and beyond to assist a growing population of new residents who have been with this institution for years and angry and uncaring staff who would not take an extra 30 seconds to help your loved one stand up or put their shoes on who should not be working in healthcare or any industry involving human interaction with vulnerable populations. Unfortunately, the uncaring appears to be multiplying and winning at the Shores, and unless management makes intelligent choices on vetting, selecting and training new hires wisely, this assisted living is honestly a one fading star review at best.

30% rate increase in 6 years

This facility used to have a long waiting list. Now there are occupancy issues which they seem unable to resolve. 30% rate increase in 6 years has put it out of my price range and I understand has caused residents to seek other living communities. There are ongoing dining issues including cutting back on meal portions, choices and planning to eliminate breakfast all together. My parents were in a high end CCRC and I would have moved them immediately if they had half the rate increases that Westminster Shores has had. These increases are significantly out of proportion compared to other like facilities in FL.
