My 95-year-old mother moved into Wesley Enhanced Living assisted living in August 15th. The facility was initially satisfactory, nice apartment, good activities. However, on September 15th, I was informed that the facility was closing due to a failed sale, giving us 30 days to move out, violating the contract. They insisted my mother needed skilled nursing despite no change in her condition. They refused to share the reassessment details. Eventually, they offered a small room at Stapeley. The facility's rapid decline led to my mother falling and bruising herself due to a malfunctioning call button. After brief hospitalization, we moved her to Stapeley, only to be forced into their rehab unit. Just before her release, they again claimed she needed skilled nursing without proper explanation. I took her home and Sunrise of Abington readily accepted her into personal care. The ordeal caused my mother significant stress and depression, which I believe contributed to her passing in April.

We were really excited during the admissions process, but once we moved in, there was no communication. The sales director was still great, and would do things outside of his role like hook up our loved one's tv. But the nurses would never get back to us. Our loved one's landline phone wasn't plugged in, just sitting next to the jack. Her cell phone wasn't plugged in, just sitting next to the outlet. So we were never able to contact her. The nurse's stations always said they would have our loved one call us, and they never did. With dementia, our loved one would forget to eat, and was confused and thought she had to pay to go eat. She ended up losing so much weight, and was hospitalized for dehydration. The staff didn't notify me of the problem - I had no idea she wasn't eating or drinking until the hospitalization. When we would visit, nobody at the front desk would talk to us while we were there. We found the room and the facility to be nice, but the care and treatment are what really matters. When we went to pickup her things, her clothes and her pillow were missing.

toured twice before signing contract, thought I had asked pertinent questions covering all bases...on tours I was greeted warmly, fed delicious food, staff was observed caring well for residents. on arrival for move-in, I learned that NO doors to/from resident's designated parking areas are handicapped accessible (i.e. DO meet Federal definition of wheelchair fitting through doorway BUT for PRACTICAL purposes, doors are heavy & without automatic openers) ...ONLY the main entrance has automatic openers. Within a few days, I (using power wheelchair) accidently dropped an item while going past a couple of staff members who stood stone still...one finally reached out to assist me but the other said to him "DON'T" then to me "we're not allowed to help independent living residents unless you have pre-paid for a scheduled service" (I later verified this with another staff member who explained that this rule was new, put in place because IL residents were taking advantage of free help from staff). On tour, I had asked about which service(s) are included in monthly fee & which will incur extra charges... specifically I asked if pulling medical alert chain in apt for assist after a fall when be charged, answer on tour was "NO", answer after entry is "YES"....same situation when calling maintenance for clogged plumbing. There have been multiple other small issues along the way but the FINALE for me occurred this week when I learned that I will NEVER be allowed to use the pool because wheelchairs are NEVER permitted in the pool area.... resident MUST be able to WALK from the shower room door to the pool...I made it very clear on initial tour that I very much planned to use the pool daily AND that I am able only to take a couple of short steps IF I have a secure handhold OR stand to pivot to another seat! Since I have been told that there cannot be any exceptions to this 'no wheelchair' rule, I must now seek other housing...just basic honest communication among staff & honest answers on initial tour could have avoided much grief & hassle for ALL involved.

My mother in law has lived at Wellesley for four years, and it was satisfactory up until the time she entered the personal care floor where services have been lacking. They are understaffed, information does not pass well between shifts, and the human errors have meant a degrading quality of life for my mother in law that should be completely preventable.

My mother has been here for a few months. At first, I was very excited for her to finally have a home where she was going to have the monitoring of nurses and the socialization of extracurricular activities. It all seemed good and well on the surface. Now, her room is always a mess, the nurses are mostly on their phones, and worst of all - she has been injured here TWICE. When I had brought up my concerns to the director of the care department, we were supposed to meet one on one, and she brought a team of 7 people with her. Way to override my concerns and make this about yourselves!... Regardless of my complaints, they found a way to keep talking about their programs and my mother's condition. Which is fine....but we need to address MY concerns. I did not schedule for a meeting to be brought into a bullypit where you are just exploiting how you plan to take control of the services I am paying for and avoid addressing my concerns. It is so discouraging and very uneasy the way that this facility is ran. It doesn't help that the Director of the entire building is always making jokes about things. This isn't funny. Your unprofessionalism shouldn't be a laughing matter. When you have someone coming in to see their mother and always finding new things to be concerned about - the last thing you should be doing is cracking jokes.

This facility is clean and pretty well maintained, but the some of the nurses , CNA,s and the director of nurses are very uncaring people. My relative was at this location for a couple years and has many injuries, UTI,s and bruises of unknown sources on her body. My family and I , kept our loved one , here because it was conviently located for us to come see about them. They had visitors almost every day. When they first entered the facility, the staff was a mature, caring and well trained, experienced staff. As time went on, they kept firing the good people and bringing in uncaring, ignorant people with no compassion for the residents. On any given day when I entered the facility, people would be hanging off of the wheel chairs, or calling for a nurse and they were right in front of them and would not assist them. My family member is total care, can do nothing for themselves and the injuries they got here , no one would own up to. There are a hand full of good people on staff here and I wont name them , but this place needs a good shakedown. I don't recommend putting anybody here that can't speak for themselves . If they have Alzheimer's or dementia , they think they can get away with doing anything to them. The present director of nursing feels no empathy for the residents and defends her CNA,s even when it is obvious , someone did something wrong. I chose to move my relative somewhere else, because i fear , they may be injured again .

Horrible experience. I requested a sit down conversation about the facility. During the phone conversation all they cared about was if I would be responsible for any excess expenses resulting from my love's stay. We finally made an appointment. She later emailed me and stated that the assessor cancelled the appointment. Then, I ask if I can still come in to look around and the admission coordinator stated that she made an appointment with her son's school ...so she would not be available. She kept saying that she did not want to waste my time. She continued to try and discourage me from seeing the facility. Julie assumed she knew the extent of my sister 's income. Horrible place...horrible staff.
