They don't do custom meals for the clients needs. I chose this community because it was recommended and the cleanliness of it. Kind of expensive. Lots of activities.

This was nice and it was newer than Amerisist, a little brighter. The problem I had with them was with my mom, it had two floors with stairs and that was a concern.

Good Experience Overall

It was very nice experience overall. My mom seemed to enjoy herself. My only issue was the fact that I couldn't bring her medications in myself. I had to go through their Omnicare, which I found to be extremely more expensive than CVS, where I was getting them before.

Good Value

It took a while to get my mom to move to a community and it took a while to get her to leave her room then she started to enjoy the activities and socialization. Now she is back in her room so it is hard to go backward. But I understand they need to quarantine due to the virus. Expense is a big factor with all senior living, my mom has a studio room with no kitchen at all in her room. She also had some money taken from her purse. Activities were important in our decision so she could get the socialization she was not getting at home. She is getting assistance with showering and help in the morning to get going.

It felt broken up and didn't have big rooms.

No matter what level they are all paying the same price. It was all white and like a maze. It's only a few years old, but I didn't like that they didn't have a nice courtyard. And it felt broken up and didn't have big rooms.

Rooms were nice, but hallways smelled

We liked pretty much everything about this except it seemed like when you got in the hallways, the hallways smelled, it didn't smell clean. The rooms were ncie, there wasn't any smell in them, the staff was friendly, the people that we talked to and we had an appointment to take her back there but didn't because of the smell.

Emeritus - Solid, but stay involved

Emeritus' strength lies with its people - wonderfully kind, friendly and helpful. That doesn't, however, excuse you from staying on top of things to make sure things happen as they should. While everyone has a smile, offers to help, is attentive and clearly cares, you do have to be involved by making sure you understand who is doing what, what is being done, how it's being done, whether it's being done in a timely manner, etc. I'm guessing this is true of every and any facility, but most of us enter these facilities without prior experience, so it's easy to make assumptions that the right hand always knows what the left hand is doing. Get to know the caregivers, be friendly and appreciative back, but ask questions and make sure you are involved in the process, and you'll have a good experience.

Wilburn Gardens

Preparing to bring the patient in went very good with all questions answered. However, there was a lack of support when bringing the patient in. The coordinator and maintenance were not there so many things we were told would be done when they got back several days later. No one showed up during the several hours moving the patient in and we were left to constantly go down stairs asking for help most of which we stumbled across hours later. There should be some procedures for welcoming the patient into the facility instead of leaving it exclusively up to the family. As an example, no one helped setting up the TV and we had to find the person to get the medicine arranged. Basically we were given the key and that's all. The facility itself was cleaned and the people there attentive to the patients.

Erosion of leadership

Change in administration and staffing in the 2nd half of my father's time there was very negative. The nurses and staff in the PACU were excellent, attentive and compassionate. When my dad moved to the Assisted Living area of the 3rd floor, the staff was changing, attitudes and morale were poor, and his care was mediocre except for one or two people. The people who worked in recreation had dull personalities and projected disinterest in the residents. It became clear to me that there was a tremendous lack of leadership from the top down.

A mixed bag - friendly, caring staff, and a clean facility, but entertainment, food and lack of regular trips

A little more flexibility in the food options. My parents often complain about the food and that there are no alternatives. If they miss a meal time for whatever reason, they have no other options or snacks. There seems to be a fair number of on-site activities, but trips away are few and far between. I had to hire a 3rd party to take them to medical appointments, shopping and the occasional restaurant trip. Lastly, a little flexibility in the payment dates would have prevented me from having to take a bridge loan to cover their expenses when social security checks didn't hit by the first of the month. The mini fridge is not friendly for the elderly. My dad took a fall trying to access the fridge and the facility had no way to raise it, so,I had to buy a special stand. That's ridiculous given the clientele. Oh, also the TV service is ridiculous. It's analog satellite TV, so any newer TV can't even tune into it. If you have an older TV, you can get signal. But it's low quality and fuzzy. We had to resort to streaming, which has been a difficult transition for my parents who,we're used to cable.

Me and my families experience

[name removed] PT/OT on campus is excellent! Front desk personnel are great - esp the Mon- Fri 9-5 one. The way they have aides switch floor no not much consistency was very hard in my Mom. If she was in a mood, very few people would come back and check in her later - VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and scary for our family. Some aides were great. But those often don't last here- which speaks to a larger systemic issue. There's a lot of potentially good things and a lot of good people here, but it sure could use some improvement!! Oh also nursing staff sometimes ignored or weren't very helpful to my mom because she had a different doctor than the on-site doctor. Nonetheless, if she had a UTI, which she has a few times, and we pay good money to be here. It seems as if they would have given her more attention, especially on the weekend! The weekend here is like a desert!

Paramount Review

In trying to stay positive my husband was hard to take care of. From losing a leg on top of having beginnings of dementia. Most of the nurses were excellent but a few not so much. I was there every day except for a few when weather kept me home. I had to have a friend come in to shave him and brush his teeth. He wouldn't let me and the staff didn't offer. The food was not very appetizing. They said the menu was set from out of state. You would think the people would try to fix what they liked. The residents would get excited if they knew they were having comfort food for dinner. I certainly didn't see the workers eating there. They refused my husband to come back after he lost his other leg. They said they didn't have the capabilities to take care of him. I understand that they didn't but maybe should have refused us in the beginning. It took over 2 months to receive a refund. They were debating to give none. I moved his things out immediately after I was told we couldn't return. It is a lovely facility and doesn't make you feel, smell or look like a nursing facility. It is completely private pay so it makes you wonder . My mother was there when it was privately owned and the owners were on site . Much nicer than when the corporation that owns it now. My husband was only there a few months. My mother over two years. I'm sorry if I seem negative but my husband ended up out of state an hour away in a not so very nice place. They even allowed smoking in a designated area. He passed in May of 2023. Thank God for Hospice.
