I would have to give them all 5's. My mom is liking Kinship a lot. She is in independent living so there is not really any care required. The people are friendly, the food is good and it's a fine facility.

We've Had Some Issues With The Care

Based on what we've experienced so far, I'll be nice and give them 3. The cost is great and they seem to have a lot of activities but we've been having some issues with the care. Number one, the medication. They stated that they were giving my father-in-law his medication and he said he wasn't. My brother-in-law went in there and found that his presciptions has not been filled by Emeritus. When we asked them about it, no one could give us an answer. Also my father-in-law takes ensure and he's supposed to take it 3 times a day and he said he was only getting one. I'm not pleased with them on that. I have to take a trip from Texas to find out what's going on. We've stopped doing the ensure through them and we're tying to make unannounced visits. We're not ready to move him but the radar is up. The food is great. My in-laws have actually gained weight which is great. I'm really pleased with that.

Their two elevators broke at Christmas and were broken for weeks. It was dreadful situation for those who couldn't climb the stairs. This was a bad experience.

Brookdale needs improvement!

It is difficult for Brookdale to keep qualified staff. Especially shocking is that the facility employed an LPN as the Director of Nursing who spoke to families as if she knew the residents well. It was evident by her lack of knowledge that she did not. Yet Brookdale allowed her to be the one monitoring special care. In addition, there are employees who have no CNA certification or training and are still taking care of our most valued citizens who need a higher level of care. Our family member was lovingly cared for by a FEW staff members but many are overworked, underpaid and undertrained. I would not recommend Brookdale Assisted Living.

Not too impressed

Most help is good and they go out of their way to help. The flier says handicap accessible, but it really is not. The independent apartments are not made for walkers and wheelchairs to get around, very narrow entries into the bathrooms. Showers are not zero entry. They say you can have pets, but they are very discriminative towards which ones you can have. When they have trips for residents, not everyone is asked to go. Administration is not very confidential and seems to only listen to certain residents' issues and believe what they are hearing without checking out the other side of the story. Lots of negative comments to residents without much if any positive feedback. Seem to only look for problems and wait for things to happen to scold residents instead of trying to problem solve to make things good for everyone.

Happy for a while

I moved my mother there when it was Emeritus. Everything was perfect. The food was excellent! Mom was in pretty bad shape and was cared for in the best possible way. The management was superb! Then it was changed to Brookdale. Left much to be desired. The food quality went down somewhat. The staff wasn't nearly as happy. However, mom was still cared for in a great and sufficient way. Then it was changed AGAIN to Quail Creek. Wow. What a horrible decision to have Grace Management take over. EVERYTHING declined. I watched the staff quit and go elsewhere. Thank God our favorite 2 stayed on board! I don't know what we would have done without them! The food quality was a disgrace. The cook was really good, but I'm sure she didn't have enough money to get what she needed for a decent menu. They terminated who I thought was the best manager they have ever had. She cared, she worked hard, the residents loved her, she had the best communication skills and made sure everyone was happy and went out of her way, on her own time, to make sure things were the way they should be. Then a new person came in who showed no care at all for the residents. She never even made eye contact with them! I know this because I watched her regularly! Seems like all Grace Management was interested in was collecting rent. Not much beyond that. Four years ago, I would have referred this facility to anyone! I wouldn't let my dog live there now! And it's a shame. My mom is now with Jesus and all-in-all, she was happy there because the workers took such good care of her. They all loved her and she loved them back. This place needs some serious work in order to attract new residents. I was told years ago they were going to remodel. It looks like something from the 1960's. The carpet is unexplainable, especially after all the past "accidents" which happened on the carpet. And they need to modify their menu and make it more desirable and nutricious.

Poor Customer Service

The facility is nice and clean. The food was good. However, when we moved her to another location that had Medicaire Advantage, they did not send all of her medicines with her. 1 medicine had a co-pay of $250. It had to fight with her pharmacy and insurance company for over 6 months after she passed. Emeritus was NO HELP. Did not return calls or emails. The bottom line is. they treat you ok while you are there, but once the money stops coming in they could care less. VERY Dissapointed.

Don’t let the pretty lobby fool you!

At first Teal Creek looked like a wonderful alternative for our Precious Mother. Her first month there she lost 15 pounds. The staff offered meals and did not graciously persist. My Mother had Alzheimer’s and was on the second floor- “Alzheimer’s “ unit which turned out to be as much of an Alzheimer’s unit as Aisle 4 at the grocery store. The unit’s staff were not educated in caring for Alzheimer’s patients. The day shift staff were the most caring , at nights- the staff slept or disappeared, and the weekends were a free for all. Cell phone and jewelry were stolen and police report filed. Also Mother’s narcotic pain med stolen. The bright beautiful lobby is very deceptive of what really goes on. I know and understand that there is no perfect place, but perfection in care needs to be a goal in providing professional and loving care.
