Top Notch Assisted Living

My husband has been here for a little over a month. It’s sad for both of us after almost 40 years together. I take great comfort in knowing he is getting a level of care that I could no longer provide. I visit 2-3 times a week. I am always greeted by the friendly staff. Lunch and dinner are real treats, reasonably priced for guests, creative and delicious. I don’t know the full range of activities so can’t give a fair rating. However, my husband is not a Bingo, jigsaw puzzle or board game fan. Nor is he interested in any kind of physical activity. His loss.

Amazing experience

This place was amazing! We had to place my Mom somewhere since she needed 24/7 care. We went to Sunflower with my Dad and we were impressed with everything we saw. This place is clean, nice, but the best part was the staff. The staff is amazing!! My Dad was very hesitant to place my Mom, but he felt very comfortable there. They really go above and beyond to make sure each resident is treated with respect, kindness, and is secure. Definitely recommend it!!

Great Experience

The people here that I interacted with while looking for a new home for my mom, were just stellar. [Name removed], [name removed] and [name removed] showed me all the place had to offer as well as several apartments. The place is lovely and new and had a nice vibe. Happy and community oriented. The staff seemed glad to be there and frequently interacted with residents. This was not a fit for my mom simply due to her financial situation and the fact that her ancestors tend to live to 98. I highly recommend you checking it out for anyone who needs this type of living situation. To the staff, thank you from my family for all the work you did.

Mom passed away peacefully yesterday on [date removed]. [Name removed], you in particular, were so impressive with your knowledge of so many people in the industry, and just the way you presented yourself, and the confidence you conveyed…..well…… all that gave me GREAT confidence in Sunrise which was HUGE for my family towards the end of Mom’s life. I will most certainly recommend you to anybody and everybody who was in our situation. Thank you for working with me and being there for if and when Mom need that next level of care. Right Decision at the Right Time

As designated family member, with 3 other siblings awaiting my feedback - Del Obispo Terrace did not disappoint. Our mother had been on her own for 25+ years, yet was time for Mom to have daily assistance. This facility passed the smell test, everyone was friendly during our visits as well as two other family members before our Mom's move in date. Multiple rooms available - able to select a room on 1st floor with outdoor patio. Unfortunately, our Mom has had two trips to the hospital as well as endured a flu epidemic at the facility that closed down the dining room and activities. While in good health, Mom enjoyed the meal setting, late afternoon get-together activities and ability to have doctor visits on-site. We highly recommend this facility - when our Mom returns, anticipate her remaining happy with this facility.

Sienna at Otay Ranch....dad's new home.

I was very impressed when we had a tour of Sienna at Otay Ranch while it was under construction. The sales staff was extremely accommodating and the whole administrative team went out of their way to meet with me and my sister to answer all our questions. Their excitement about what they had planned at Sienna, and the genuine concern and compassion about our emotional struggles with Dad transitioning to assisted living were what helped us make our final decision. Although It meant that we had to delay (by about a month) getting Dad moved from home with round the clock companions into his new apartment, it was definitely worth the wait. His apartment is very spacious, and well laid out. Safety was definitely a strong point in the planning stages. Upon entry, there's a kitchenette with a large refrigerator and microwave and room for a small table and chairs. His living room is just beyond the kitchenette and his love seat, end tables, coffee table and TV console fit there quite nicely. His bedroom is through a doorway from the LR and accommodates a double bed, dresser, night stand and comfy recliner. A short hallway leading to the bathroom houses two large closets on either side. The walk-in shower is large with plenty of grab bars. Another grab bar extends along the back wall to the toilet. An emergency call unit is on that wall as well. There's a large linen cabinet in the bathroom along with a sink and vanity with storage and drawers. Dad wears a wristband emergency call device as well, provided by community. Dad loves having his privacy yet knows that assistance is close by. In fact he loves when his doorbell rings and his care partners check to see how he's doing. At Sienna they have a unique point system where dad is evaluated for how much care he will require and based on that, he pays for the care he needs. It's all individualized per resident. We are so thankful that the fears we had about dad adjusting to assisted living have completely disappeared. He's been at Sienna for a month now. (He was one of the first residents to move in!). He adores the staff, participates in all the activities and has made many friends among the other residents who have moved in. Every time we visit him he is smiling. When we took him to Sienna for a tour the first time, after it's completion, he looked around and at first all he could say was "Wow!" Later he said to us, "What did I do to deserve this?" First of all, the place is gorgeous. It's lobby rivals that of a first class hotel. The décor is stunning, and the common areas, such as the theater, library, gym, salon and other gathering spots are very inviting. Being one of the first to reserve space for our loved one, we were able to choose the apartment for Dad, a great 1 bedroom space, located on the first floor and overlooking the courtyard. It's absolutely beautiful and the exceptional assistance offered by the staff getting all of dad's things moved in and cable TV set up etc. was as unexpected as it was amazingly helpful. I believe that the amazing support for residents and their families extended by each and every employee is directly related to the executive director and his leadership. [Name removed] has been in the industry for 12 years and you can sense his dedication and commitment to making Sienna at Otay Ranch the gold standard in the industry. His excitement about what his vision is for this community and the caring he exhibits for these residents is compelling and you just know that your loved one is in the best of hands. It's heartwarming when you watch him interact with each resident and witness the care and respectful attention he offers to each individual. Since moving in, Dad has enjoyed several outings, (the driver of the Sienna transport vehicles is an experienced senior community driver and totally dedicated to finding great places and events to bring the residents to see and enjoy). Dad really looks forward to his meals in the "all-day" dining room; they are high quality, nutritious and planned and prepared by [name removed], a wonderful chef, recruited from the high-end restaurant industry. The activities director is a charming, high-energy and gracious woman who's background is in education. Her patience, warmth and compassion have made her one of Dad's favorite people in the short time he's been at Sienna. Dad has Parkinson's dementia and it's difficult for him to find the right words to express himself much of the time which makes it very frustrating for him. With [name removed] and the care team at Sienna, Dad has no problem speaking up, knowing that what he has to say matters to them and they'll give him the time and attention he needs to say what's on his mind. Another of Dad's favorite people is [name removed], the Wellness Director. She was the first person he met from Sienna when she came to his home for his pre-admission assessment. [Name removed] is as knowledgeable as she is fun and relates perfectly with dad who loves to tease a little and enjoys a good laugh. Her influence and knowledge has enabled us to feel secure in allowing the house MD at Sienna to assume Dad's medical care from his long time primary care physician. Even though dad still lives close enough to remain in the care of his former physicians (primary MD, cardiologist, dermatologist, urologist, neurologist, optometrist, podiatrist) the care connections that Sienna is providing for it's residents will enable Dad to receive all of his medical care at Sienna by [name removed], the medical director, and by visiting specialists contracting with Sienna. All care is available under one roof! No transportation to appointments! Providers will have access to Dad's full medical record and be able to consult with each other and coordinate Dad's care among them. Although Dad qualified for the assisted living area of Sienna at Otay Ranch, we know that over time Dad's dementia will progress and his care needs will increase until the time comes when it will no longer be safe for him to remain in assisted living. That's why we're so grateful that Sienna has Memory Care and that [name removed] is the Director of that department. Although Dad doesn't come into contact with [name removed] much at this time, I personally got to know [name removed] very well during Dad's pre admission when I was actively involved with his move and making frequent visits to Sienna. [Name removed] is a salt of the earth type of person, someone you immediately click with and get a sense of comfort and support from. She, like all the admin staff at Sienna, exude that amazing combination of professionalism and likeable personality which makes them so approachable and easy to communicate with. And like all the staff at Sienna, she truly loves what she does and it shows. I'm thrilled that Sienna was one of the recommendations provided to us by your service. And we will be forever grateful that "A Place for Mom" helped us find the best place for Dad we could ever have hoped for.

The staff of Caledona Senior Living are the BEST!! They have gone out of their way to make my mother very comfortable. Mom now feels that she has a new home. She has made many new friends. We feel that we are getting the best care for Mom for the money. They provide daily activities and weather permitting some outdoor activities. We cannot say enough great things about this facility.

Sunrise Villa is a Beautiful, Professionally Run Gem

They have completely remodeled this very uniquely laid out facility. The common spaces are large and very welcoming. The staff are professional and kind. The community is quite diverse engaged and friendly. My parents love the food! Great westside, convenient LA location.

Recent new resident

My father is there. His Alzheimer's accelerated after hip surgery. The facility is top rate, the cost is about average in the market place, and the people are dedicated. However, they have not been successful in integrating Dad into the daily activities, and his decline is accelerating. I was hoping for more interaction between Dad and staff. But, that's my only disappointment. His daily care is great.

A Great Place for Mom

My 91 year old mother has been in Bonita Sunrise Senior Living for just under a year. Though her initial month or so were very stressful for her, she has settled in and is very happy there. The staff is fabulous and from day 1, everyone called her by name. By day 3, everyone called me (her daughter) by name. They provide a very welcoming atmosphere,, and assured us there would be a period of adjustment, which there was. Mom has her favorites on the staff who deal directly with her, but they are all very efficient and mindful of her needs. I do not feel well could have chosen a better place for her. They provide a lot of activities for residents and their families, and family is always welcome to join them in the dining room for a meal (at a nominal cost). My mom's favorite activity is when Hershey Kiss, the Therapy Miniature Horse comes into her room to visit--makes her day!

Staff is superb.

The staff interacts with the residents in a very positive way. They work with the resident as well as the family to make the stay as pleasant as possible. Within the last two months there as been a turnover of the activity directors position and as a result there was some disruption in the activity schedules. It appears that this issue is either resolved or in the process of being resolved. I enjoy going to the facility to visit with my spouse. I am always welcomed by the staff.

Cottages of Carmel - A great place for Mom.

The Cottages of Carmel is a small, home-like facility. It is on a single level and this makes it easy for all residents to access the entire facility. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are plenty of activities to keep mom busy, including regular excursions out of the facility. The first thing you notice is the facility is bright and clean. I feel very comfortable with having my mom cared for at the Cottages of Carmel.
