Recommend for people who really need assisted living

it is strictly assisted living. I did not need it at the time, only for the first month. I am ambulatory, and residents here were mostly in walkers or wheelchairs and needed more assistance than I did. They had no variety or choice of food. You get what you get. The move in price was hefty. I do think that they were overly restrictive. I was here 6 months and confined to my room for 5 of those. The apartments here are very small. If I were in need of assisted living, I think my experience would have been different.

Facility nice overall - staff could use some overhaul - 1 elevator permanently broken

Cleanliness good. Front office/front desk very good. Physical/occupational therapists excellent. As with any facility, the staff are hit or miss. Some are good, caring people. Others are lazy, rude, paycheck-collectors that don't give a rat's posterior about anything or anyone other than themselves. I don't know about the staff int he main areas (non-memory), but in the 3rd floor memory unit, 75% of the staff seemed to be very indifferent about everything. Two elevators; one has been broken for the entire 3 months my aunt was there (she recently passed from her stage 4 cancer). There is supposedly a large bathing room with a jaczuzzi bath, but it has apparently been broken for months or years. Most of the staff didn't even know it existed or where it was. She was in the memory unit due to chronically removing her clothing. But her mind was still 90% there. She claimed that the food served int he memory unit was VERY different from the food in the main dining room. During the day and evening, front desk was staffed. Late at night, like 10-11pm, sometimes upon returning from the ER, we would have to ring the bell and pound on the door for 10-15 minutes to get into the building. Cost was cheaper than some assisted living facilities, more than others. Middle of the road.

Decent, but not great. Unexpected and dismaying communication and service failures.

Overall, I'd give Sunrise of Blue Bell a B, maybe a B+. The staff was caring and competent overall. The place also was clean and well-maintained. There were, however, some glitches like Staff not reading emails while out of town and medicines not being administered as a consequence. Although the issue wasn't life-threatening, I had to scramble to get the prescription filled and administered in time for a dentist appointment. There also were billing and accounting problems that didn't get sorted out for a couple months and their online payment system didn't allow for automatic payments up to a certain amount while making other payments manually. Also levels of care were upgraded (with resulting additional charges) without prior consultation. Although this ultimately was corrected, it was annoying and showed inadequate training and/or attention to detail. Communication with the medical personnel who visited the facility routinely was spotty and those people were unfamiliar and unable to comply with our desire to keep our father's medical records in the cloud for shared access by all concerned. Lastly, specific directions for choice of hospital weren't followed, although it is not clear if that was the facility's or the ambulance's fault.

Tour for care

I toured this community for the care for my mom. It did not have the feeling that we were looking for. They charge a one time fee for upkeep. They have the additional cost that we were not aware of. I recommend other families tour this community to make sure that they are informed of the cost for the care of a loved one.

We are happy with Morningside over all. There is some areas that could use improvement. House keeping staff in residents rooms . Bags are never put in trash cans. Sometimes beds needs to be changed and isn't . I find dirty gloves behind dresser or under bed . Staff comunacation is horrible between aides and family . It seems know one knows anything or doesn't try to find out . Allot of times we have know idea who there aide is or don't see them . I think a notebook or something in residents room with maybe some kind of notes back and forth between aides and families . Family members might be able to give aides or staff important info to help . We feel like we are in the dark sometimes

We are pretty happy with them. They are very nice, and they are treating her well. We haven't had any issues with billing so far. They were very accommodating with making the adjustments and things like that. The food is hit and miss, but they always have alternatives, and ice cream. Things have been pretty smooth so far.

Mixed experience

In terms of the people and the service provided I think they do a wonderful job at Sunrise. The facility is attractive, has a warm friendly feeling, and the people could not be nicer! They also do a great job with the food! However, when my loved one moved in there were numerous maintenance issues with the apartment, some of which we've resolved and some we are still working through. They're trying to be helpful and get these issues handled, but it is still taking some time.

Nice place, could use more activities

So far things have gone well with Morningside House at Satyr Hill. It's a nice looking community, and the staff seem friendly and professional. However, my loved one has been having a bit of trouble socially. He says the population is on the older side, and the activities aren't quite what he was hoping for.

So far so good. But advocates always need to closely watch, anywhere.

Don't know yet. Seems fine so far and mom is adjusting. Had to catch some pretty bad prescription med errors within the first week. Mom might not have made it unless family closely monitored that situation. But we did. Family, advocates, loved ones need to do this anywhere. Staff is friendly, things seem good so far. Wish we'd done this quicker. I am so sorry for families that cannot afford these facilities as the toll on caretakers can be horrid.

Needs more offsite activities.

My mom moved in about 2 months ago and is doing very well there. What I liked most about Cedar Hill was the onsite physical therapy that was offered, the way they handled medication distribution at the correct times and amounts. I rated activities a 3 because I was a disappointed in the offsite activities they provided. It would be nice if there was an activity once a week, but there is only a bus that comes twice a month.

Overall very positive, but some inconsistent care

Generally we're very pleased with the care here. Some of the staff are amazing. The activities are great, there's enough to keep everyone busy and active all the time and Ashlee, who takes residents on their trips, is wonderful. The 3rd floor care manager, Karen, is excellent. When she is there everything is ship-shape. However when Karen is not on duty we've noticed inconsistencies with the care managers' cleanliness and care. Small things like dirty gloves and wash rags not being cleaned up immediately or residents being left in their winter coats after returning from a trip. When we address these issues they are corrected right away. I feel like sometimes my loved one is overlooked because they're on the lower end of the care spectrum for the facility.

Things you should inquire in more detail about

They are not as verse on handling dementia patients as stated based on training. Like most places, the hired personnel are not well trained or at times lacked compassion or desire to provide quality work. There were a handful of great people, but they are not adequately staffed due to the quality of selected individuals. The medication challenges where there was written authorization to change doses was a nightmare. They wanted you to throw away medication just because 1 additional pill added. I had to go get a new bottle of meds with the label adjusted. That was ridiculous because of med techs not reading new charts off computer and adjusting until medication ran out and new prescription received. Must account for everything in the room and be present as in what should be in all facilities. I was more disappointed because they did not have adequate stimulation on the 5th floor as they did on the fourth floor. The staff did not want the extra responsibility to take them down because too much personal phone usage. Get a clear and concise understanding on the level of actual training and activities for people with Dementia and Alzheimer's . Ask to see the certification of level of training and recertification of employees. It is a need for greater compassion, empathy and understanding. In an interview, people can say anything. They should be followed more closely and ensure that they get necessary training within probationary period. It is more than just a job. There were 4 people that went above and beyond, and that I commend. I would like to add that they did make right the things that I complained about.

Not Bad; Not Great"

Most staff are friendly, helpful, and seem to care, however, There is a HUGE turnover in staff. There's not enough going on to keep the residents busy and occupied. They do play games daily or have an occasional art activity. But if your LO is like my partner and doesn't like to play games, there is nothing else to do other than watch TV.

Everyone was really nice and supportive when my Mom passed away. Front desk, caregivers, cleaning staff, activities, and maintenance are all friendly. They seem to be understaffed and I had to pick up a lot of the slack when I visited (cutting and cleaning nails, hair, and dentures - I’ve experienced this at more expensive places, too, so it seems like an industry-wide issue). The nurse in personal care was dedicated and wonderful. I wish caregivers spent less time on their phones and more time on hygiene. Had to ask for the bathroom to be cleaned more frequently.
