I would give the office personnel a zero!

The caregivers were all very friendly, I would give them 5 for friendliness, but the people in the offices are another story. I would give the office personnel a zero! Up until lately things have been good. I don't understand what happened. He never liked the food, he called it slop, a lot of them do. They said they had an activities director that would come every day and get him, invite him to join, and they never did that. We are the one who deal with everything, if they have a question they should call us. We have been in the process of finding a new community. Bill Murr, who is the sales director, or some similar position, I never have met him, called the new place and talked to their sales director, and asked if the new room was ready. He told her he wanted to get us out early. They want to move someone in sooner than we were planning to move. He made a comment that if we could be out by the 15th they can move the new person in on the 16th. This doesn't seem right, I thought they would need to paint and clean the carpet and whatnot. After going around me to check with the new community, I was asked if I could arrange to move him early. I already had the movers set up and scheduled, this was not really possible for us. Bill then offered to refund us for every day we left early. We weren't able to make it happen by the fifteenth, but did arrange to move sooner. When he heard that it wouldn't be when he wanted, he said we don't give refunds he said it is just too bad that you changed things and are moving early. I never thought of getting money back until they offered it. If they tell you something like this get it in writing.

First impressions

I always go by first impressions of the person I meet or people in the facility. The person I met with was a very negative person who promoted the facility as "one of the few in the area" that did memory care. But she was such a negative personality, I couldn't see past that. It may be the only facility in the area with that type of care, but if she represents the type of care available, no thank you!

Overlooked bedbugs and basic care needs

I am appalled. I was informed my client was behaving in an unacceptable manner. I immediately went over to access the situation. Her room was infested with bedbugs. You wonder why she was acting out, living with that. I cannot fathom that between caretakers and house cleaning nothing was noticed or any action was taken. During the cleanup of a two week period my client returned to her room. Her shower curtain had not been hung. I asked the facility to hang it for her, please. They agreed. I returned a week and a half later and it was still on the bathroom floor. My client had not showered for that entire time. I forgot to mention my client has dementia. Where is the care this facility offers? She is moving out post haste.

be on guard

One should not have to chose between good personal care and activities, certainly not at the prices charged. The personal care ends once the contract is signed. Ask about staffing ratios and have a meal before you sign. How can one caregiver handle 10 residents or more during the day with dementia and provide personal care and attention? We all assume there is some required level of attention in these facilities, not true. [removed] If you do admit, visit often and speak up for those that cannot. Hold the facility accountable for the services you expect and are paying for. Be vigilant of your resident's care needs. Note physical changes and notify staff. Do not rely on them for medical supervision.

I am not usually a negative person, but I have been so frustrated with Skyline Place. My parents have been residents there for 1 1/2 years. The positive is that most of the workers are kind and gentle. My biggest complaints are the poor communication and the constantly increasing cost. The director is slow to address/resolve concerns. We have trouble getting packages delivered to the correct room (three incidents)and getting requested services (bathing) to happen when scheduled. Some services that were originally offered have been reneged with no reduction in monthly fee. The meals, that a year and a half ago were fantastic, are now and have been medicore for months. Our biggest problem is that we really don't have much, if any, choice of assisted care in the area. I really won't and can't recommend Skyline to anyone who asks.

Do not recommend for memory care

I have moved my husband from Sand Sage . I cannot comment on the assisted living side of Sand Sage of the Highlands but is my opinion that they should not be caring for those with advancing alzheimers. The staff in the unit are not properly trained. After only a month since my move he has IMPROVED not declined. You can read my review on the Sand Sage website

They are understaffed, and unorganized. They did not provide what they said. The price for memory care in general is far to high. They had trouble keeping her clean (she is incontinent) and keeping her bed clean, and they lost her bedding and clothes, they lost her tv remote and stuffed animal. My mother was having trouble chewing her food, and no one noticed. My sister and I on several different occasions noticed, and I mentioned it to the staff, who said they would give her more chewable food, but it never happened.

Don't Go Here

Upon move-in we discovered the carpet was FILTHY. My bare feet were left black after several hours of moving them in. The woman who ran the place literally THREW THEM OUT upon finding out they had Covid , which they themselves went to get tested for & reported immediately to the staff. She forced them to get on a bud and ride 3 hours to a disgusting "nursing home". She verbally assaulted & was incredibly rude to my mother & her husband & they did not understand what was going on. The food was awful, the facility was dirty and security was nonexistent. Once my parents were evicted for having Covid, they never went back. I would never recommend The Renaissance at Ponca City.

Don't put your loved one in memory care at this facility

My loved one was there a short period of time. I would never use their memory care unit, but I cannot speak for assisted living. My loved ones clothes often disappeared. When you walk in, there is a stench and it smelled like urine, and it makes you wonder if they are really cleaning. My loved one fell a few times, and I was concerned. They don't have enough people, who are attentive to the residents.

Think twice before sending your loved one hear

Another commenter said if your loved one isn’t independent and needs help with most or all daily activities, this may not be the place. My mom had a dog who was not getting walked,,my poor mom was living in dog waste. My mom lost so so much weight. She then had a fall and was picked up by the ambulance. The facility didn’t reach out to follow up on my mom. We would send email after email and never get a response. We would even cc higher up management and days would go by with no reply. She was in memory care and a lot of our emails were regarding getting her reassessed to see if she needed a higher level of care. Again if this isn’t for memory care, this may be a good place but you’re a loved one who needs extra tlc due to dementia. It may be a more affordable than others but you get what you pay for

Nightmare!

My mother moved into the memory care unit for three to four months in 2017. It is hard to put into words just how horrible our experience was. She had multiple falls, I found her naked on the floor several times, she along with her bedding, her curtains and carpet were covered in feces almost every time I visited. She would not get cleaned up, nails trimmed, bathed, urinated clothing changed and the list goes on until I was there to see to it that these things got done. Orders by her doctor were not followed and we just couldn't get her out fast enough. I believe that her care was like it was because she was on Medicaid. She was finally put on hospice and her hospice worker worked tirelessly to find another place to accept her and did eventually and she received the most amazing care that she had deserved all along. I don't know how places like McLoughlin place in Oregon City can even stay open they should be shut down immediately. They lost all of her clothing and even her teeth!

Bad experience

I would tell others that they promised a lot of things that did not happen. The medical staff here is really lacking, we could not trust them. The administrator tried to fix things but it just did not happen. They were not proactive, they were reactive to any issues. We ended up moving him out of here. I would encourage people to meet with all of the key staff before moving your loved one into any facility.

Stressful and Upsetting

I would recommend to keep looking for memory care at another community. The cottage my loved one was at, was wrong for them. There were other residents that walked into my loved one's room and messed it up. My loved one moved into another cottage that is better equipped for him and other residents in similar assisted living.

If I could give this facility a less than zero, I would. [Name removed], the lead person in the bldg. for 28 residents, basically asked me what I was doing there. Very unprofessional and rude. The facility itself smelled like urine throughout the whole building. There's no way I'd put my loved one in here!! Cost is a lot higher than other facilities we looked at too. Horrible experience

My mother's stay was horrible. She had alzheimer's. She was there for six weeks and in that time she fell 8 times. She suffered a broken wrist and possibly a broken hip that went undetected. On one of my many visits the staff didn't know where she was ,she was found in a Male patients room with the door closed. On two different visits I found caregivers arguing with her. I also found feces covering the toilet, on the bottom of her shoes,on the carpet and in her laundry basket and on the wall. On same visit a caregiver told me her lamp fell and broke . I found broken glass in her nightstand and in a decorative urn. Her blanket and mattress pad were found on another patients bed. Caregivers are diffinetly under trained and under staffed.I moved her to a wonderful place where she passed only weeks later probably from the poor care she received at Mcloughlin place in Oregon city Oregon. On the day I moved her one of the caregivers told me that my mother wasn't treated right . I give this terrible facility ZERO stars.
