My Mom and Dad have been here since Feb 2013. Dad has gotten worse...they say he is confrontational and aggressive. I must now hire a person to sit with Dad from 10AM to 9PM every day. The facility does not have the staff(in number or properly trained) to handle Dad. I may have to move my Dad.

My loved one stayed at this facility at a time, and the care they provided was excellent. However he was not quite ready for full time nursing care, and still wanted a level of independence. We decided to move him to a more active facility.

Very nice, large facility.

Our families experience was generally very positive. There were a few rough spots on the day of admission, mainly due to some lack of communication among the staff. So the first few hours, some things that were supposed to happen didn't until we followed up. He was in a temporary room for a couple days, and we expected that the staff would move him across the hall to his permanent room, only to find they were waiting for us to do it. Again, probably a communication problem. My Dad was there for respite care after breaking his shoulder in a fall, after which, he could not even get out of a chair, go to the bathroom, etc. He was well cared for and the staff were responsive when he needed assistance. Having both physical and occupational therapy onsite, was very productive, and he continues to do his PT at home every day. This helped his recovery and general ability to get around by himself. He was well fed, and enjoyed the meals, despite complaining that all they ever do is eat. He gained back weight he'd lost; now the challenge is keeping it on at home. It was good that they came to get him in his room and take him to the dining hall, vs. bringing food to his room. My Dad did not participate much in activities, so I can't comment on that. It was his choice and no reflection on the facility. There was one incident with weekend staff who did not treat my father well. This was isolated, and I don't know if it was reported or not. Overall, we have very little to complain about and if he becomes unable to live by himself, we would certainly consider a longer term stay.

Nice place, has a pool, good size facility. Up-front costs.

Especially liked the food options. Not sure if I liked the 3 bed options.

We chose Highgate because of the location, the price was right, and they were able to get her in rather quickly. My sister in law did a tour and she thought it was very nice and would be a good fit. They have been great with communication, we get updates weekly. She said the food is great and she really enjoys it. They just recently opened up the gazebo and garden area outside, but one of the residents has a dog and they are not cleaning up after it, but it is a very nice place. I would recommend.

My loved one is still trying to adjust to living at this community. The staff have been friendly and encouraging them to participate in some of the daily activities. My loved one seems to like the food. The community is clean and the grounds are well maintained.

The staff is very helpful and friendly with my Mother. The food is fine but nothing extra special. My Mother would rather eat out if she can. The facility is kept clean and in good repair. More activities need to be offered on weekends for the residents. My Mother claims it is boring on weekends. I live out of state so she can not be with me every weekend.

The staff is friendly but there actually needs to be better oversight in various instances. For example, residents need to be better watched over during meals and residents must be prohibited from easily entering the private rooms of fellow residents.

Food quality and serving warm food; not waiting 2 hrs later for a cold meal. Meal schedule. One night was served dinner at 7:11 pm

They are very short staffed and have high turnover of administrative staff. There is often no one at the front desk on weekends or evenings. The activities director is wonderful and has been there for decades. I do not have experience with the memory care unit, but I have heard second hand from family members that it's not the best. I think most assisted living facilities are dealing with a short staff situation so I think they try to do the best they can, but at times, especially with no one at the front desk at times, it could lend to a dangerous situation. The 9-5 receptionist was also wonderful, but she left recently. She had been there for years. I don't know how Highgate compares price wise to other facilities, but it's expensive for sure.

The facility is nice, overall, but it could use a little bit of TLC. Some of the staff treat your loved ones like they were their grandparents and I like that. I wish they would give them a choice on food. Don't just put their plate in front of them. Sometimes they don't eat it. Speaking about my dad, if it doesn't look good, he's not going to eat it. Some of the activities I experienced were the same. Change up sometimes

The price is reasonable compared to other facilities. A big complaint which I believe has to do w/ not changing the residents often enough :( is the odor of urine as soon as u get off the elevator & proceed down the hallways. The director [name removed] is very helpful & very hands on but the staff needs to be more attentive to proper hygiene. The rooms are fine, spacious for shared though the bathroom toilets & seats do not look as if they are cleaned often enough! The Nurses seem to be good but honestly over-all no one is super friendly & lack communication w/ the residents. We have addressed a few issues w/ management so I am hoping things get better now that we passed on our concerns.

My mother is not real happy there. Some of her cash has gone missing since she moved in and it's too small and there's not any activities that are worthwhile to her. She doesn't like the bathroom sink being in kitchen. So the kitchen and bathroom share a sink. That annoys her. The medical care is not up to par. They see a PA every month. It's very hard to see her and talk to anyone in nursing. Communication is not good. The place is clean, friendly, overall appealing, food is good my mom says. Dad likes it too. Dad is happy there. He gets good care he says. But I think they could be happier somewhere else closer to me and having more activities and maybe a bigger space.

This was an okay community. Overall it was not the right fit for my loved one.

The staff is good. Everyone has helped me adjust to my new home.

The staff here are great. I have had a great experience so far since I moved in.
