Easy for mom to get around, exercise program, friendly staff. They need more help in diner, too short staffed and not really balanced meals.

Our Experience

Housekeeping is good. On the independent side where we're at now, they are moving to an a la carte or market basket approach. Housekeeping, meals, etc are added to rent. So far, activities are not extra. That makes sense. I would recommend, based on our experience so far. Folks who have been here for a few years seem to think it was better back in the day. Better food, mostly. We tend to keep to ourselves, so movies, etc don't affect us much. Trying to please a bunch of cranky old people has to be a challenge.

Needs some improvement but very nice facility

I would tell others to make sure they give them the medications the need and do their laundry - they aren't very good at that.

We're looking for a temporary housing solution for my 95-year old mom for two weeks. The Lodge seemed to have everything we need. I would have given 4 stars, but we were told by the director that the minimum stay was 30 days. That is more than what we need. This news was disappointing.

Our tour

This is a very beautiful community. The person that took us on tour was nice, however they did not seem very knowledgable about the community. This community did not seem very active when we visited. They did not have an apartment available that would fit my loved ones needs.

A Good Tour, Nice Community

My tour of this community went well. The community looked neat and tidy. From what I saw everything was well maintained. The staff I met was nice and friendly. They were also informative and answered my questions. It was a good experience, it was a nice tour of a good community.

Mom Was Not Pleased

This is a nice community, but my mother wasn't very pleased, so she has decided she wants to move. She is pleased with the food. They take a while to fix things. Other then those issues I think it is a nice place. Everybody is friendly and kind. They do offer activities for the residents. It is a nice safe community, my mother just wasn't very happy.

needed a closer watch

Dad wasn't at Madrona Park long before he took a fall. He was in memory care that was more independent. The staff was great and easy to work with. They probably need to hire more though for a better ration. It was expensive but probably in line with most facilities like this. He really needed a closer watch. It wasn't their fault we just didn't know he needed more care.

The common area into which ...

The common area into which you first enter is very welcoming. Nallely and Danielle are both knowledgeable and able to answer all of our questions. We were encouraged to call with any that we might have. The cafeteria is open all day with salad bar and sandwiches made to order. There is the option of enjoying the grill special of the day between specific hours. The facility has a license that allows them to house couples together when one of them requires assisted living but the other is independent. The apartment we were shown is very small. It would not easily accommodate a wheelchair, but it did have a door to the outside. It is a larger living community. They will make sure that residents have transportation to their home church and Bible studies if they are able to do so. There were some very strong unpleasant odors associated with the area of the building at which we were looking. The hallway was also very long and dark. A large apartment complex is being built right next door to the west of the housing area. What we did really like was the focus of the facility that everyone needs a purpose to enjoy life, and they actively pursue residents to stay involved in activities and healthy nutrition. It is also a gluten-free facility!

Not great.

We were not happy with the care or attention that was paid to the residents. They only bathed our loved one once or twice a week, where she is now she gets showered daily. She always seemed to look dirty here. It seemed that nobody brushed her hair. They weren't able to handle her memory care needs to my satisfaction. Since moving her she is much calmer and more peaceful. She is cleaner and better cared for. I don't think Emeritus did a very good job.

Gencare Lifestyle Federal Way

Our family was looking for a memory care facility for our mother. We did a tour of the Gencare Lifestyle in Federal Way and everything seemed like a good fit for our mother. After touring a couple other facilities, we chose Gencare Lifestyle. Once my father signed all paperwork for mom's acceptance, the monthly charges were nearly double what my father initially thought due to all additional expenses which were noshalonty stated as additional costs.. During the visit, pricing was not transparent. They mentioned many times about the monthly room rates, but failed to mention the additional costs in detail that accrue in a clear way. Otherwise, the care was acceptable but not excellent. My mother just recently passed and not sure if we would recommend this facility. Please be sure to find out all additional costs and to have it all in writing make sure it is clear and precise. It was like bait and switch. We are basing this on our experience with a Gencare.

Poor Alzheimer's Care

My family member lives in the memory care area. The staff don't seem to have skills o work it's Alzheimer's patients. They don't provide any areas of independent activities. They offer minimal activities, but to get to them you have to leave the area via an elevator. The memory care dining area is poorly lit. The outdoor area doesn't have cushions on the chairs. Patients roam the halls with nothing to do. Nothing on the walls are age related for seniors. The don't offer the Alzheimer's patients food or beverage choices. I've sat through several meals. The food is plated and then sits and is served cold. I don't know why, because they have a warming table. the patients just roam the halls.

pretty bad

The maintenance is pretty bad. It is an older building and the room I had was not nice. There have been some plumbing issues where some of the pipes are showing rust. They have a washing machine and dryer on each floor, but the one on the second floor has not worked for a couple of years. In my place I had a little refrigerator and microwave that's supposed to be plugged in, but one of the circuit breakers went out and it was a big headache getting that addressed, and it has still not been fixed. The people that are working there are pleasant, but the people that are running the place have some work to do.
