Five Star Senior Living

On February 24, 2015 we moved my Mom who had lived with me for the past 2 years into Morningview at Irving Park. First I spoke with Carol, an advisor at a Place for Mom. We spoke at length and she helped point in the right direction and shared some tips and tools for the search. Next I spent months researching, visiting and analyzing facilities. I chose Morningview for a couple of reasons, but the most important was the interaction I witnessed between the administration and the residents each time I visited. Whether the visit was announced or not the residents were always spoken to my name and they seemed to realize that they were actually cared for and about. Two to three weeks prior to the day she moved in, I felt nothing but dread, guilt, despair and nervousness as an only child placing my Mom. Was I failing her or my adored Dad who has passed away 7 years ago? Every one of those feelings were self imposed. Now as I see pictures when friends and family stop by, I realize I made the RIGHT choice. She seems to have adjusted well and there she has the opportunity to be around others, develop new friendships and be closer to her great grandchildren. Just because she has dementia does not mean that she can't be happy, satisfied or look beautiful. I am very thankful to those who care for my Mom.

I did go to Comforts of Home in Hudson for a tour and I was very impressed with it. I liked the layout, the apartments are very nice. My Aunt does live there already, and the Lobby is nice. I didn't get a chance to eat in their dining room, but would really like to. Staff is great and the location was in a wooded area and it just seemed inviting.

The help here is very kind and loving. My Mom has her cat with her and the cat is good for everyone! My Mother does not participate in activities but there seems to be enough to do to break up the day. I am looking forward to warm weather to enjoy the outdoor areas.

We moved my mom into Legacy Heights one month ago. We had visited 7 assisted living homes prior to choosing it. What really stands out about it is both the cleanliness of it and the friendliness of all the employees. Never have I walked in and smelled that odor that is common in many homes. The staff is always around to help in any way possible. So far we are very pleased with Legacy Heights and would recommend it highly to others. Mom is currently on the basic level of care with medication being administered to her 3 times day. Activities are scheduled daily and include, bingo, music, spiritual leaders, volunteer groups like scout troops, people that paint nails, do crafts etc. with the residents

My dad spent only a month there before he passed away, but I could not have been more pleased with the facility and staff. Prior to my dad moving in at The Wellstead of Rogers, he had been in 3 hospitals and 2 nursing homes, one of those nursing homes was just awful. The staff at Wellstead treated my dad like family, I could not have asked for better care for him. The staff is so engaging and caring even when my dad was not cooperative. Very greatful that I was able to get him into this wonderful facilty before he passed away.

Most caring and warm staff. Lovely facilities. Good food!

My Grandma has been at Cameron Hall for about 8 months. They have been so good to her, and my family is very grateful that we can trust them with her care. Highly recommend!

My mother has lived at Cameron Hall since 2012. She is well cared for, respected and celebrated. They really love her there. That's what I wanted: for her to be loved and they really do. The community was family owned for 16 years and the owner decided to retire, so she sold to Five Star Senior Living and they have been very good for Cameron Hall. The only changes have been minimal and all good. I have experienced first hand that Cameron Hall is the kind of place that really cares about the residents. They are getting a face lift and I know people think that is important, but paint and carpeting don't make the community, people do. Cameron Hall has some of the finest people I've met. This is my mother's third community in four years and she's been well cared for here. I'm happy. You will be too!

We are so pleased with Heartlands overall. Our mother has been living there for 4 months and is really happy with her new residence. She especially comments on the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food and services. The activities that are offered are varied and plentiful. Her studio apartment is comfortable but dated and small for the price in our market area.

Upon entering The Palms you feel like your entering a very nice apartment complex and since our visit was in December everyone was a flitter decorating, but not to busy to stop and greet us. Our coordinator was very friendly, took us on a tour, had a complimentary lunch in their dining room. The food was excellent and the staff all very friendly. Dad decided that we really didn't need to look any further. He qualified for the Independent section and the do have an assisted living section as well. Some of the amenities are laundry service (small fee), room service (when you don't feel like going to the dining room), weekly house cleaning, trips to Walmart, various grocery stores several times a week, barber/beautician onsite, a wood shop, beautiful pool with several grills, outdoor kitchen. The apartments are very roomy and set up perfect with walk in shower, big windows and have been kept up. Dad is not overly social, but they have bingo, dances and many opportunities to have fun. They also offer discounts for Veterans and Delta retirees. The location is secluded, close to the interstate , doctors, and shopping. The Palms also accept pets and have plenty of places to walk them. I am so relieved to have found Dad a place all his own.

I think they do a good job overall at Leisure Park, we've had experience with a few communities and this place definitely ranks at the top. The staff here are all very nice, caring people, and the place is clean and well kept. They've done a really great job getting her at the right level for her medication, she seems to be doing much better now. My only complaint is that sometimes they miss details when it comes to care. When I visit sometimes I'll find that nobody put her compression socks on that morning. I also wish they'd check a little more frequently for trips to the restroom. But overall it's a nice place.

I wrote a May 2014 review below and still feel the same way. I had to move my parents due to my mom's declining health and dad wanted to be near her. They were NOT happy about having to leave Clearwater, as they felt it was home to them. The size of the building is not overwhelming, and people know each other. They loved the food, the room and the staff, especially the therapists and nurses!! In fact, the occupational and physical therapists called me to tell me they felt something "wasn't quite right" with my mom one week. When I went over, I didnt see a huge difference but I took her in to a doc, and sure enough, she had a bowel obstruction which had moved to gangrene! If it hadnt been caught quickly, I feel sure she would have died. The aids did a great job and kept my mom laughing. The activities director does an amazing job with decorations and events. The food is super. The location was convenient for me. I thank the Clearwater staff on behalf of my family for making this a good experience for as long as it was possible. God bless you all. My mother has been here for almost 3 years and is very happy. The staff is very attentive and patient. Mom raves about the food and loves the fact that she "orders from a menu." The staff is great about keeping me informed about any issues with Mom. Since her memory is so bad, I have to call them whenever I am going to come get her (she will either get dressed and wait for me for hours or forget altogether). They have her ready for me when I come. Mom will probably have to move to the Memory Care Unit soon, so they are integrating her into their activities, so she will feel comfortable with the staff and the residents when the time comes. They are very concerned with preserving her dignity.

Mom, who is 91, broke her hip. She is going there from the hospital tonight. I had a diff place all picked out for her close to home, but I read the reviews and nixed the whole idea. The other place had dirty floors and allegedly drugged the dementia patients to shut them up. Not for my mother. This place, after looking at 3 others, impressed me. Fireplace, hardwood floors, wall-to-wall pretty CARPET in the hallways, the largest 32" tvs for each patient.... but mostly it was the decor and the smiles and alertness on the patients' faces. Nobody was sitting there looking dead. All the elderly people were talking, smiling, doing something. That says a lot to me. I will update. She is going there tonight for her rehab.

It's going very good so far. I don't have any complaints or concerns, and if I did I would address them with Somerford.

We toured Morningside. I liked it. It was clean and the staff was friendly. I can't really say much about the value or the care, since it was just an initial tour.

We visited 5 assisted living facilities in our area before choosing The Laurels of Highland Creek. My parents chose The Laurels & what a blessing it has been. This very difficult transition was made as easy as possible thanks in large part to the welcoming attitude at the facility. The administrative staff was very accommodating & willing to work with my parents during this really difficult transition time. The staff has been very friendly & attentive in every way too! When comparing in home health care vs. assisted living, The Laurels is a great value for all the amenities offered. More importantly, for us, the socialization of the other residents was just as important as the physical care aspect when picking a facility. It's a community where they look after, encourage & share with each other. I feel like my parents are blessed beyond measure to be there!

Mom is still getting settled in, but thus far we are well pleased. The facility is very clean and the staff is very friendly. It's a really good facility, smaller than other places that I've looked at, which means there's a good ratio of staff to residents. The transportation services Gateway offers is much better than any other that I've looked at. Thus far I really can't think of anything that needs to be improved. Homesickness notwithstanding, mom is getting settled in and liking it.

Morningside of Bellgrade has been wonderful to us. The staff and the nurses and aids have been great. Qudsia has taken so much time with us and NEVER seems distracted as if she had other things to do or other people to see. Julie was my initial contact person and she did everything she could and went out of her way to help us and make us feel like this was the place for our loved one to be . Katrina has been helpful with all of the medical aspects of our family member and has helped us with her knowledge and experience of what to expect will happen as time goes on. Even Amy has made the financial experience as pleasant and it can possibly be and has helped us with dealing with long term care. Why even Sherry who answers the phone knows us by name. Over all, my family and I highly recommend Morningside. We like the idea that your loved one can be cared for till the time of their passing. Morningside feels like a home and not a hospital. Thank you Morningside for all you do!!!!!

The people that work here have been terrific to us. They have gone out of their way to help us get my father settled.
