My mother has been a resident of Pinecrest in Hickory, NC for over 5 years. Since COVID-19 the service provided by the company that runs Pinecrest has been substandard. It’s all about collecting the most money for the least amount of service. They no longer provide transportation or housekeeping. The meals are delivered to the room and residents are expected to provide their own plates and utensils and do their own washing up. I’ve never been more disappointed.

The founder of Washington House was my pastor-[name removed]. His vision for the facility was one of grace, comfort, and care. During COVID, none of these elements match the practice at the facility. Residents are locked indoors, in their rooms with no activities, no interaction, no grace, no love and little help. Calls to the phone lines which rarely work well (crackle, drop, or are inaudible) go unanswered. The Head of Nursing is unresponsive and read the CDC guidance not only incorrectly, but how it best suited the facility to drop staff and activities. Meanwhile, residents are paying full fare for reduced services and greatly reduced quality of care. [name removed] would have been chagrined to see that his vision had turned to a business that so poorly provides for its residence. I am here to tell you that I am beyond chagrined and angry at how my mother is being treated.

When it comes to the important responsibilities to the residents , they have been extremely disappointing to our family. 1) The family is "guaranteed" to be notified immediately when there is a medical emergency. My Mother was taken out to the ER, where she could have passed away. The family was never notified and the hospital didn't know who she was. She could have passed with no family around her. 2) Weeks later, after my Mother did pass, the center promised that a bus would take her many friends to her funeral. They were ready, there was no bus and no notification to the family to make other arrangements for them. All her close friends missed her funeral and were understandably upset. So was the family. This kind of incompetence is completely inexcusable. Keep shopping around, you can definitely do better for your loved one.

My family & I had a very negative experience with The Terrace At Beverly Lake. While looking for a Memory Care home for my mother, we toured The Terrace & found it to be anything but welcoming. The front office staff was rude & cold, it felt like we were intruding. The tour guide was very price focused, we asked many questions & she kept pushing how important putting a deposit down was. The building itself is falling apart, there’s a huge sinking hole in the hallway, the paint is incomplete in many areas & there are bare damaged walls everywhere you look. The caregivers were running every which way, you can tell they are very understaffed, maybe two or three on a floor? The place is cold, bare & just sad. I’ve been to Memory Care places, I know it’s not all perfect but for them to be asking us to pay $8,000/month you’d think the residents would receive better than that. I want to know that my mother is being cared for properly & this place did not give me that feeling.

A review of no star is not sufficiently appropriate for this care facility. The details and explanations provided to lure you toward a confident decision erodes quickly as you leave the main lobby of the facility and taken to a dungeon for skilled nursing. The actual private room assigned to my loved one compared to the Facts/Photos for residential care were deplorable. And, the existence of the Ambassador devoted to supporting the duration of your stay was non existent. As well, scheduled medicines were not provided to my love one on time. I have photographs of the dirty, worn and stained furnishings, bug and insect infested private room that had an aging odor and air freshner use was not allowed. Unfortunately, we were in this horrific facility for 24 hours. The facility attempted to imply (standard operating procedures) "against medical advice" could endanger patient care; however, the facility would not release discharge instructions for patient care which jeopardized patient care. What a juxtaposition, the environment and the disingeniousness of the staff was pathetic. I can assure you, state and federal regulatory agencies will receive this information so the mis-informed will not make the mistake my family did. Stay away from this dump.

The Stratford is a HORRIBLE place to leave anyone you care about. They talk a good story because they want your business. I went to check on my mom her first day there. They had told us someone would be assigned to help her get familiar with the place and activities. When I stop for dinner she I asked her how her day was and did she meet anyone to eat with at lunch. She said she had sat at a table with some people. I asked her didn't they assign you someone to help you get familiar with the place and she said no. I told her to get a table while I went to look for the manager. While I went to talk to someone my mom attempted to get a seat at a table but was promptly told to leave. Finally the manager showed up and said he would find the person who was supposed to help her and it turned out to be the table and people who booted her off the table minutes earlier. From there on out it was down hill. My mom told me of fights at the elevator because they have ONLY one for the entire place. And the person doing the fighting had already been kicked out once before. I was told of sitting for an hour waiting for someone just to take your order for breakfast, lunch, and dinner let alone the time it then took for them to deliver it. I heard of shouting matches in the dining area and no one doing anything about it. My mom had people pulling on her door trying to break into her place while she was there. We were told there was free wifi but not in the area my mom was so we had to order and pay for it. Unfortunately for most of the people there they should NOT be in an independent living facility. We moved my mom out right after the 3 months we were required to be there and the $3,300 we had to pay on top of rent to get into the place which they refused to refund. Run don't walk on by this place, again it is NOT some place you want to put someone you care or love.

Beware! Talking with several people before moving in my mother, I SPECIFICALLY asked about levels of care and care as she became weaker physically. They talked about tier or care level 4 which would be TOTAL CARE. I asked more questions about this and they assured me that it is "TOTAL CARE" BUT, when my mom was in the hospital, a nurse came out to re-assess my mom, and they felt she needed two people to transfer her and they would not accept her back at the facility. I called repeatedly and left messages (both with the receptionist and voice mail with specific individuals) and after several days, not one call has been returned. They are very happy to take your non-refundable fee of $1500 up front, but OMIT very important information about levels of care provided for residents. If I would have been told the answer to my questions (without omitting the BIG fact that total care does NOT include two person transfers, I would not have moved my mom in there in the first place!!!! Summary - they are happy to take your money, but no service afterwards

My parents were placed in this assisted living by my siblings....I was able to fly out and check check the facility. I noticed that my parents room hadn’t been cleaned, so I threw out the trash and asked for a vacuum cleaner. I was at breakfast lunch and dinner with my mom, I was appalled to find that at dinner and lunch, the menu changed... on the printed menu it stated one thing but in actuality they would switch the meals, for instance offer chicken and mash potatoes, but would serve a grilled cheese sandwich. This happened quite a few times, and I was told by other family members, this has happened on their watch... I was not impressed with the facility and I’m so glad that we moved my parents after a short period! Would not recommend this facility!

please place your parent somewhere else. this place is crawling with bedbugs, and rude people with foreign heavy accents. My mom fell, I was on the phone with her. I hear the nurse tell the aides to put her back on the bed, she is not bleeding or bruised and she did not feel like completing the paperwork. When I called in and asked to speak with the head day nurse "She told me that if I say something and report it, that my mom would have to wear this ridiculous helmet on her head all day like this other lady who fell and busted her head open." The place isn't half full what does that tell you. Run the other way.........

My wife who suffers from dementia/Ahlzheimers was a resident for 5 weeks. In which time Carillon managed to give her a continuous case of diarrhea, a fall that almost killed her and drugged her into a stupor. They ignored her gluten free diet and never notified me of the drug increases they and their nurse quack were administering to her. I am pursuing legal avenues after they billed me an outrageous charge for removing her. Do not use this facility

The "space" is lovely. The food fairly good. Most of the dining staff and front desk are very nice and effective. Some, even terrific. Now, that that's out of the way, let me explain why under NO circumstances should you EVER leave your loved one with these people. They have NO intention of being truthful about the quality of care your loved one will receive. My father moved here in August '17. Neglect was rampant. The management is incredibly defensive, condescending, narcissistic and worse. With them knowing I was his primary family contact (and lived out of state), they didn't even notify me when he went to the hospital (TWO of the three times). Their former ED, [name removed], is simply dishonest...at best. My dad was in rehab for a month...while he was paying the full tab, including for housekeeping. I sent someone into his room three weeks after he'd been gone...and they found all sorts of mold growing in his fridge, the apartment was so smelly, they had to open the windows and leave. I shared with this [name removed], director of health & wellness...and she tells me her staff checked and the room was “spotless and it smells good.” ARE YOU KIDDING?! OH, two days before my dad was to return to [name removed] from rehab, [name removed]and another staff member came for a visit (after Advanced Healthcare of Scottsdale (a great place) had been requesting that visit for more than a week). Later that evening...a Wed., I get a legal eviction for my dad. 14-day notice. Guess what, you NEVER send your loved one back to a place like this after they've evicted you. They'll be even further neglected. He was supposed to return 1.5 days later. This is just one story of how they run their business. The parent company? Doesn't even list an address or phone number. Just a contact form. That should tell you a lot. AVOID THIS PLACE...AND IF YOU END UP CONSIDERING A PLACE [name removed] IS WORKING AT, DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE THERE.

This is a horrible place for any family member, the meals are precooked frozen and reheated, the activity's are a joke, mostly feeding wine and booze to the fokes and the staff is non existent so short staffed it should be illegal sometimes only one person to take care of over 60 people. Run don't walk from this place if you truly love your family member.

My father was neglected and abused here (the Memory Care unit was chronically under-staffed and unable to provide the necessary services they promised -- like nutrition, hydration, personal hygiene, or social interaction). Dad nearly died there two years ago. Today we celebrated his 88th birthday, which he would never have lived to see if he had stayed at Brookdale. See 2016 citation at Washington State's Department of Social and Health Services (Intake [removed]).

He fell one time and tried to call a nurse and it took 2 hours for them to come get him. The food was lousy. And monthly he would be called and said he hadn't paid and it was already paid for the accounting was off.

By far the worst facility I have ever seen. Staff seems friendly at first but the second those doors are closed behind you, you will meet the rudest most unreliable employees ever. Apparently negligence and abuse (BOTH physical and mental) is tolerated in the building, so if you look for that this place is definitely the way to go! Independent patients do not see much of the horrors that occur but those that need assistance have it the worst. I have seen them cry, get kicked, ignored, yanked, and mistreated in the highest level possible. If you love your family DO NOT let them set foot in that facility

Beware of safety protocols that are not being followed here. Heavy door on garbage bin areas on each floor has trapped seniors. Families not being notified when their relatives are sent to emergency, call system each morning for residence not followed up at all times. Easy access to senior buildings without office asking who is entering the building, just hit the button and it’s opened. Looks beautiful, some really nice people work here, third director in two years and the present director is very unimpressive. Buyer beware.
