A Place for Mom has scored Cogir Senior Living with 8.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 1,556 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Cogir Senior Living has 4,803 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.3 out of 5.
My tour here went well but I did notice that the residents were not interacting much with one another and my wife needs that interaction with people and activities. The courtyard also faced a street. I did not have a good feeling about this community at all.

The place is so unorganized nothing seems to be in order. New people come in the front door – do not come back the next day - at the most ½ shift, then left to be on their own people cannot learn well that way of teaching regardless how good the “teacher” in at his/her job.

This place has been going downhill for quite awhile. The best caregivers and nurses have been leaving for a long time. Inexperienced and uneducated (to the needs of elders) remain. Even they are leaving. There are still a few very caring people left and they are spread thinly. Even the last administrator left abruptly and her absence has left a void. The person who replaced her is interested in only one thing ... money. This place is not equipped to care for elderly who need more attention. If the resident stops eating, so be it. If the resident is soiled, we'll get to it later. They provide very little or no mental stimulation; the entertainment has been lessened; the people in memory care rarely leave the locked up ward. They don't even have TV in the common room of memory care. The same DVDs are played over and over. These poor people are just left to stare at the walls or stay in their beds. Rarely talked to. Medications are used too often to put these people into a quasi-zombie state. If you love your Mother or Father or Grandparent or other friend or family member, do not put them in Marymount GreenHills. They will quickly go downhill. Perhaps the people who do not have many needs will do better here. They might make friends with other residents and there is a large dining room where they can be with other people. The menu needs improving. The quality of food needs improving. There ARE many kind people who work here. But they don't seem to be treated well by management lately either.

The place is beautiful. But they are understaffed, constant changing of staff and temps coming in. Current staff handling to many at one time to give the resident the attention they need. Food was pitched on our tour as fresh and more spent per meal on each resident than anywhere else. Not so. Processed food and not very good. Worst part is they have these corporate networking events in their dining room and residents are given boxed meals in their room. Growing pains is an understatement. Already changed directors, already changed the director of nursing, already changed the maintenance guy and already changed the chef. The room doors are so heavy most residents can't open them on their own. The electronic keys don't always work. The place is just to long and big. Takes time to much time for staff to get to the residents and very long walks to the dining room for others. Pretty facility but to many issues.

They have some front line staff who really does care. Unfortunately they also have management who does not. All they care about is making money. Collecting that rent, then hiring the minimum employees they can without it being obvious that they are negligent. The residents who are self sufficient thrive and do great. The residents who need hands on care, don't. The more care they need, the more the quality of care drops, and management does nothing about it. It's obvious that their staff is spread too thin, and they have a few employees who flat out ignore unsanitary conditions. The food is gross. They advertise it like it is amazing but it isn't.

January 2, 2016: This morning my dad asked me if it was as foggy today as it was yesterday. I said no. He said that was good because since it was so foggy yesterday the staff did not show up in the morning, so they were not served breakfast. He said they were supposed to have a continental breakfast (common on holidays there understandably I don't want a lot of people to have to work on holidays either) but no one set it up. He and the other early risers rifled through the dining area and found cold cereal but no milk, fruit, pastries, etc. so they ate dry, cold cereal. When they asked where breakfast was they were told no one could set it up because it was "too foggy" for staff to get there. My dad says he told them I had gotten there somehow. It was foggy, not the worst I've seen, and certainly not impenetrable. December 7, 2016: I moved my dad in here to make sure someone keeps an eye on him. It was Merrill Gardens then, after that Emeritus, now Brookdale. The level of care over 9 years has generally deteriorated. Recently they have been doing a massive (needed) renovation. They painted all the walls - in color blocked maize, sage & pumpkin. They installed brand new low pile carpet in a retro Versace inspired gold and brown braid pattern. That was all ok, dated but needed. Then this last week they replaced all the furniture, and over the weekend they replaced all the art!!! That's hundreds of thousands of dollars of crap they bought for literally no reason. They took the chestnut colored big wood furniture out and brought in brand new walnut colored big wood furniture. And the art went from 2/10 to 3.5/10. And wasting money is whatever, except they are increasing rent 7% this year instead of the usual 6% increase AND they are currently without an Registered Nurse to supervise the CNAs because they aren't paying enough to attract a nurse AND they are down to 2 house keepers to clean hundreds of rooms AND they are short on wait staff AND they have shortened the hours of the receptionist. so stupid and wasteful August 10, 2016: Went to my dad's this morning and found a little old lady by the elevator with no clue where she was. She asked me how to get to the first floor. I told her that was the first floor and walked her over to the lobby. She said "but there's no one there", and I explained there's no one in the dining room til 7 or at reception til 6:30. So she got upset. I found a Brookdale employee and said "there's a lady over here who is lost and needs help" and she just said to her "you know where your room is right? Second floor, 265. Just get in the elevator n go down the hall til you see your number". Crazy. I took her back to her room, opened the door, turned on the lights, and left her there. $3,000 a month they pay to live there and the employees can't even help a person back to their room. It took 5 minutes. I know they are understaffed (maybe try paying more) but really what's more important?

I am not sure if I am just overly picky but I have not been impressed with the care my dear friend has received. I have had to speak to management three times before my friend was given a bath. She was there for almost two weeks without a bath and in the same clothes. The staff is very friendly and seem to be caring people. I am not so impressed with the follow up to the discussions we have shared. I am glad we are there for a one month trial basis. I may have to move her if I see her continue to be unhappy. She is a very positive person and will always say she is "fine" but in all honesty she tells me she really hasn't met anyone to become friends with. She has the felling the women there are from Wenatchee and don't really have anything in common with someone from George (where she has lived the past 40 years). The meals are very good and she seems to enjoy going to the dinning room and eating with her table mates but none of them visit. They just sit there and eat in silence!

Extreme staff turnover- important positions (nurse, care coordinator, activity director, cook) often vacant. Understaffed. Food fair to poor. Elevator often out of service, stranding non-ambulatory residents. Dishwasher in kitchen non-functional for weeks. Activities may be listed daily, but most do not happen.

Both my parents live in Orchard Park and pay over $3800 a month. At over $3800 a month I do not understand why I keep hearing about them running out of food at the meals. Not just running out the quality and amount of food have gone downhill. Mom and Dad say they want to cook in their room but feel bad paying so much and getting so little in return. Years ago when my parents moved in to Orchard Park a piece of watermelon was 1/4th a slice. Now it is less than a 1/64. Just a bite. The size of the cookies is less than half what it was and a dish of ice cream is now two bites. They were told the same food would not be on the menu as the main dish or the alternative dish. Now chicken is on both menus just made different and this constitutes not the same thing? Money is what is drives the management of OP any way to squeeze a cent.

I have been very unhappy since they changed this from [Removed] and became Brookdale. They don't do anything for me, and they said they were going to charge me for using the washer, even though I do my own laundry, they say if they so much as close the lid they are charging for it. All I want now is to move, and I would not reccommend this place to anyone, especially not if you need any kind of help.

I moved a loved one into the Quarry 5 yrs ago. While the outward appearance is still quite nice it lacks inside! I have watched the rest run downhill quickly. From regular maintenance, office/nursing staff, caregivers, and meals! The attention to "Mom's" care & medical needs have been left unattended SEVERAL times. The Quarry has been unable to keep up with her declining health!!! Her bedside commode has not been rinsed out (despite 4 years of "corrective" action) - leaving the apartment smelling like a well used public restroom. When it does get rinsed out feces is left on the floor of the shower. Dirty laundry with feces (not rinsed out) put into a plastic bags to be found days later in the closet. The turn over in staff is outrageous due to UNDER staffing. Therefore quality of care has plummeted!!! She has been found on the floor barely conscious and no one knows how long she's been there despite she is supposed to be checked on regularly! There is the big WARNING!!!! "Corrective" ACTION is non existent @ the Quarry. Apartment maintenance is an extremely long wait with several reminders/requests necessary. The meals are NOT even in the same realm of quality! The only constant has been the activities - wonderful & creative! We are fortunate we have been able to have a private caregiver (during the day) with our loved one during this time...And we are moving her OUT of the Quarry!! Why pay the big bucks for a pretty exterior when all the important things CONTINUALLY fall through the cracks???? Save your money folks!! BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES QUARRY!!!!!
