A Place for Mom has scored Benchmark Senior Living with 8.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 476 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Benchmark Senior Living has 2,198 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.3 out of 5.
The selling points did not come through. They said they had Yale lecturers coming there. That didn't happen. They said they have the Yale acapella group come. That never happened. My loved one needed the social interaction and that didn't happen. You could walk down the hall for forever and not see a single person. They made promises they couldn't keep. The director of nursing was very nice and helpful. Some of the staff were really nice and some of the CNA's. Meals where good. The activities where bingo and knitting, not the things they sold in the tour. The activities schedule always looked full. The room would have 1 or 2 there to participate. This is not worth the price. We were being charged almost double the price they listed on their website.

We have had a few issues so far. My loved one had an incident where she went into congestive heart failure in her room. She never pushed the call button, but a family member just happened to stop by and see that she was in distress. That family member pressed the call button three times in half an hour with no response. That is unacceptable. Those call buttons should be top priority. She had to call the front desk to say there was an emergency, and our loved one ended up in the hospital for a few days. Also there was a Covid case, and my loved one called me to tell me they were giving her a Covid test. I never got anything official from Carriage Green. Her POA in our family never got anything from them either. So we emailed them to see what was going on. One of the staff said they had sent an email to me. But I never got it. They should have at least notified her POA right away. So there are problems with communication with them. They're not keeping us informed of what's going on, and I would like to see that improved. I do like their activities. My loved one is very pleased with those, and I like that they have a lot of things going on and that she's getting out and socializing. The food is good as well.

Mom and dad were here for almost 2 yrs.. Before covid things were ok meals not so great, but edible. Then covid hit we couldn’t visit for a long time and no one was able to see what was going on. Residents suffered with no interaction or company. Mom and dad suffered as well mentally and physically they ate 3 meals in their room, housekeeping couldn’t vacuum and they were very depressed. Now we are visiting rooms are dirty carpet stained washing machines are broken staff is sparse. My Mom went 2 weeks with no shower they don’t bring them to dining room for breakfast , the smoke alarm needed a battery and was chirping and I was told they couldn’t do anything it was after hours. We were told mom is a 2 person assist now so they will be moving as RI rules are different than other states. I would not recommend this facility to anyone !

I'm not sure if it's related to the pandemic, but things happened there that left me wondering, and I've never really gotten an answer for it. My loved one was there only for a month, and he fell three times. I was told about it each time. Then he had to be taken to the emergency room once or twice. The last time he went to the emergency room, he didn't come back. Unfortunately he passed away. He had some bruises on his eye, and The Village didn't know why. Each time he fell, they didn't really have any answers and couldn't tell me why. In that respect, I think maybe they could have done a better job. The other thing I found a little frustrating is the length of time that it took them to reimburse the money they were supposed to. I had to go back to them several times, and they would always say we're working on it. If I hadn't followed up with them, I feel like I would still be waiting on the money. I found that to be disturbing. They seemed like they made an effort to keep me informed, about my loved one's care and I welcomed that. They texted me pictures of him participating in activities. The people working there seemed to be friendly, kind, and helpful, so I appreciate that. They did what they could I guess. It's just hard to tell what was going on with the care with so many restrictions. And I couldn't monitor my loved one like I would have wanted to, especially because he was in the memory care section.

We toured this community in person and the rooms were very small compared to other communities and there were 2 to a room. The community just didn't fit my loved ones' needs at the time.
Some activities this community had were move nights, happy hour three times a week, they would bring in guest speakers as well. They also had exercise classes and art classes. The woman that was our main contact there in the beginning was very friendly, warm, easy to talk to and even funny. She made it sound like anything was possible. She showed us around and everything was very nice looking. It is an attractive building with a nice layout. Our loved ones room was on the smaller side, but it worked out perfect for them The food the served was very tasty.

I would tell my friends to read the contract carefully as they are sneaky. The day my father passed away, they told me we had to give them a 30 day notice before they stop charging and there is $9000-$10000 community fee. The overall care is good. The room my loved one lived in was a two bedroom apartment and there was another resident in the apartment.

We chose this because of the convenience. they day to day staff members are wonderful, the nursing staff is bad, they are inattentive. They do not answer the phone, when you go to see them they are always busy, they spend lots of time in the office and little time on the floor. The director here is wonderful, he passed my letter onto corporate and I heard nothing back. They are not a responsive group. I would not recommend Blenheim Newport.

First they (staff) lost her glasses then they lost her teeth. It took over a month before they put her hearing aids in the proper ears. Lost her blanket and all the new towels. They seem to try and they appear to care but there is not enough staff to care appropriately for their patients in memory care. Administration needs to not visit but needs to work several days in the staffs shoes.

overall good choice for us, we were promised first class by sales ( of course ).. has not lived up to that but good.. workers are pleasant ,noticed some residents are in need of attention. we like the dining area, girls in the restaurant are nice, and treat mom " like a queen".. we dine occasionally and have been happy..lobster rolls yum!..laundry and cleaning have had some hiccups, if you ask to get things done you will get results, annoying at times though. some turnover in management makes us nervous.over all happy

we had a pleasant tour last week, nice refreshments offered ( biggest muffin we have ever seen) fresh fruit etc. the apartment we saw looked nice, but walking thru we saw some other ,not so nice ,not sure if it is a bait and switch.people in the hallways seemed friendly enough, one thing we noticed was the aroma, like a bad air fresher.we couldn't put our finger on it as we toured. asked to use the restroom and we found it filthy.,urine smell and the floor very sticky etc.,noticed it had a grimy feel to it overall. we are considering because of the proximity to our home.we are hoping next visit goes smoother when we bring our mom

I did not personally tour this place but my brother did. He found the staff he worked with very friendly and informative. He thought the rooms he saw needed refreshening: They had seen better days. No kitchenettes but the facility had a "country" kitchen that residents were free to use. He was impressed that they offered in-house hospice when it became necessary. Room prices were reasonable; however, the cost for assisting residents with their medicine was $500/month which we both agreed seems very high.
