At the moment they are in between activities directors so there is not much going on. They have one young man who does some things with them but the whole reason we wanted her to go here was because of how good the previous activities director was. We are hoping whoever they hire next will be just as good and get things going again. They have had a lot of turnover of staff members, but the staff members who are here take very good care of the residents and they truly care. Mom really loves them. There is a lot of life going on here and they have a very beautiful outdoor area as well.

Our experience with Lucas Place

What was problematic for us was the visiting hours. They were Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and a lot of people get off of work at 5 which makes it hard to visit. They would bring residents to the dining area to eat between 4 and 4:30 and you are unable to visit with them while they eat, so really it was from 9-4. On the weekends, the visiting hours are only 2 hours from 2-4. It was just very limited. We also experienced a lot of shortage of staff members. One weekend there was only one nurse tending to about 30 residents. Overall it was just not the best experience especially for the price, we did not feel we were getting what we were paying for.

Short staffed, short of everything

My parent has been in this facility for about a year. Before she moved in the director was always available , now that we moved my parent in, no one has time. The aids are wonderful but they are over worked, with only two per shift they can not show as much attention to the residents as everyone would like. The activity director is also great, however she also has to do the transportation because they are too cheap to hire someone else. Instead of spending money on administration, they should spend it on making things better for the residents. I read the reviews going back several years and nothing has changed. The staff turnover is unreal! Not to mention that the rates are close to six thousand per month.

Great place good value

What really got us going with the Emerson community is all the amenities they have with such a reasonable value. So many other places offered minimal amenities but for a higher value, and this community has a great value. The reason we did give it an overall score of a 3 was because of the security. There has already been some break-ins, there are no cameras and even though the front door is manned they leave the backdoor unlocked

It was nice - especially for those that can get around on their own.

When it started out, it was great. It was a very clean place. It didn't smell like a nursing home or anything. But then the director moved , and they brought another one in that nobody liked. They first director was very good. She helped explain everything and helped us get moved in. She assured us Hopkins Place did not have a nursing home type of feel. Then about a week or so in, the new director took over. She wasn't very friendly and was kind of snotty. She only wanted to let one family member in at at time, and we were just trying to to get our loved one moved in and settled while we were all there from out of town. It turned out he was not there long enough to determine if the attitude of the new director trickled down to the care staff or not. He would not abide by the rules and thought he could do everything on his own. He ended up falling and broke his femur, which landed him in the hospital, where he got pneumonia nd passed away. In his short time at Hopkins Place, it's hard to determine what a more long-term stay would be like, but it seems like it would be a nice place for those that can get around well enough on their own.

Good experience

We chose Mackenzie Place because of the location of the facility and the lady we met with answered all of our questions and was very friendly and helpful. I feel like they did a good job taking care of her and were very attentive. When she first walked in the first thing she said "wow I get to stay in this beautiful place." Because we moved her in during covid there was not a whole lot of stuff going on that is why the activities score was lower. We have had some issues getting some bills after she passed away, but overall I would recommend to others who are looking.

A really good place to put your loved ones

We chose Emerson South Collins because of the affordability, the staff that I was introduced to during the tour, the food, and the activities provided. The meals here are chef prepared and she has been happy with them. They do send out newsletters for updates, but they do not put dates so that part can be confusing. I really like the opportunity for activities that they offer and the independence. They are a little slow when it comes to fixing things. Overall I would recommend them.

I Wish Communities Would Take Medications Seriously

The staff were nice and committed. They decorated the community very nicely. I believe this was head and shoulders above the other communities I looked at. I am so glad we got to go Mackenzie Place. There was a problem we had was the medication distribution. The nurse didn't let me know that it was my responsibility to call the doctor. There was a break down between shifts and the administration team and the family of my loved one. The doctor never came to see my loved one during their stay in the community, until the very last day. I had to call the doctor myself to come and see my loved one. The doctor was very causal and was in his golf clothes. I thought this was unusual.

OK if you don't mind someone telling you what to do and what you can have to eat

Cedarhurst was better than average until COVID-19 then the availability of food choices went down along with the quality of the food. I can now get a better burger at Wendys or McDonalds than here. When COVID-19 hit, even though its supposed to be Senior Living, I suddenly couldn't leave my apartment for most reason including going to the doctor unless I absolutely stated that it was medically necessary and then was quarantined for 14 days after each doctor visit. without choice. I have diabetes along with other medical conditions that require me to be physically seen by my doctor periodically so feel like I was being punished for taking care of my health. They don't enforce any mask wearing or other precautions among the residents but won't let outside people in without certain precautions. Unless you live here already, then you really don't have to do anything different as long as you stay within the building. Tired of being treated like a child when I am an adult and can take responsible care of myself. This is NOT assisted living or a nursing home or even Independent Living but a senior living facility with some perks to help live a more fulfilled life, or was. Everything is directed by offsite management that is based in nursing home care.
