They did an excellent job of taking care of my loved one! The food was occasionally not so good, but those instances were rare.

Memory Care
February 11, 2015

Beautiful facility with nice accommodations and great location. The biggest drawback is that there are a lot of extra fees. For example, your monthly rate only includes 2 loads of laundry per week. If you require more it is $10 more per load. Or if you need an additional bath per week, nursing services, companion services, extra housekeeping, Etc. are all extra each month.

Oak Ridge Review

The commons areas are kept very clean. Nice wide hallways. The staff are good at there jobs. Some of the aids are not good. I need to complain to get someone to clean my dad's bathroom and make his bed. When they do make the bed it is not made well. I get complaints because my dad gets his medication from the VA and it takes them a little extra time and work to put them up because they are not in blister pack. Sorry, I will not pay more for his medication because you don't want to do a little extra work. For the most part it is a nice home for dad. The staff is friendly and the food is good. It would be nice if they would offer transportation for the residence, like every other Assisted Living facility, but I guess that is one of the ways they can hold cost down. Oak Ridge is less expensive than other assisted living facilities in the area.

Memory Care

Neglected Ederly Mother

My mother has been there for about 4 years now, she has debilitating memory loss which has effected her quite extensively. Among many physical events she has suffered, was a fall about 3 months ago. She broke her glasses which should have been IMMEDIATELY replaced for her given her already inability to communicate her feeling or discomfort. The administration did NOTHING! Try to imagine what that was like for a elderly person with her memory loss not being able to focus on anything for 3 months. UNACCEPTABLE. This is the latest situation and the worst I know of. I live 1800 miles away but plan to visit in about 60 days. I have notified Elderly Welfare Service and spoke with a few outside agencies as well. I truly believe this neglect was done on purpose, but I garrantee nothing like this will EVER happen again. I hope this was an isolated case and just some ignorant act of irresponsibility on one person's part.

Tour experience

We did not have the best tour experience with Oak Ridge. The hallways were very dark, the facility smelled old, and during the tour we found that a lot of the residents were just sitting around and there was nothing really going on.

Our families experience

If we could give Carefree Cottages a 0 we would. Carefree cottages is awful. Zero stars and we were assaulted. They also should be investigated for their billing. Very very sad how they rip off the elderly!

Avoid this place has gone downhill and they no longer care about the residents or staff.

I would have highly recommended Elmhurst Commons a few years ago but now the place is completely different and I would no longer place or keep my loved one here. There is a new manager and some of the staff who cared have left. She is rude to her staff and short with residents and families. She ignores residents and thinks they should be made to follow her rules. I don't think she has worked with the elderly before this job. I don't know if the owner isn't aware or no longer cares. I've worked in this industry for a long time and her behavior in my opinion is unacceptable for vulnerable elders. It's a shame, this used to be a wonderful place to call home.

Not recommended for Memory care

I do not recommend this facility for memory care. The staff are not trained for memory care. The staff need more training to be in this position. They should not be promoting themselves as memory care
