No Management Makes Bad Facility

Could be a great place but care for seniors is lacking due to no management, I have seen the employees that work there but the ones who go above & beyond aren’t recognized, taken advantage of their dedication! The employees who are friends with the so called management get away with sitting on their phones doing the bare minimum and are awarded with more hours, double time, etc. We are thinking about moving my parent back home.

Bamboozled

The staff has been very rude. I have left messages and voicemails and no one has gotten back to me. They have been very uncooperative and I am frustrated. During Covid-19 they are not cleaning the rooms or bathrooms. They are bringing the food to their rooms but doing nothing to clean up these rooms. They are not returning calls to the social workers either.

Air conditioning & heating issues for years

I have a loved one here. My main frustration is the heating & cooling. The air conditioning was out this past weekend (fortunately it's spring, May/2019). The heat goes out in the winter on occasion, too. Happens EVERY season for over 4 years now. I understand they run on an old boiler type system and when something happens, I guess older parts are hard to get. Residents are given fans & space heaters, but it's not acceptable. No A/C last year with temps in the 90's for residents is unacceptable and not just a day or two. They need to permanently fix this. It's NEVER a quick fix and is just unacceptable. Otherwise a good facility.

Did not go as expected

It did not go well at all at the Sugar Grove. They did not give her the care that we expected. There did not seem to be enough staff on hand and when we did see staff they were in the nursing office on their cell phones. While we were there we even helped some of the residents because there was no staff around to assist them. My mom had a lot of falls, they did not give her the medicine we provided for her to take, we knew this because of the unopened packages. I had purchased brand new hearing aids for her that became lost while she was there. They said they changed the sheets twice a week and they didn't so I changed them. I talked to the nursing director regarding the issue and it still happened and I ended up changing them again. They would let her sleep too long, long enough to miss meals and they said they tried to wake her. When I went in the thermostat had been turned down, it was usually set to 74 degrees, and it was so cold in her room. We only asked that they take good care of my mom and they didn't.

If you are there for very long and watch and listen you will see. There is not enough to do to keep residents involved. Health issues are ignored. Nurse is distant and unfriendly and unhelpful. NOT like it use to be :(

Slowly going downhill in assited living side. Constantly "short staffed". there are 4 washers and dryers for all residents. One has been broken for 6 months! Constant turn over of staff. Dining room food has deteriorated. Not enough waitresses makes slow service. staff always huddled together in front office yucking it up. When you have to ask them something they act like you are bothering them. lots of residents have moved out.

Disorganized, Communication Issues

They're very friendly and the value is average based on the other ones I looked at. For the care, they're somewhat disorganized and they don't communicate it well to the residents so it's not that they don't have care, they're just disorganized. My dad was in the memory care and 10 days in he became very confused. He was mistaking another resident for his wife. They felt he was a safety risk and sent him to the hospital for a psych evaluation. When he go to the hospital he wasn't exhibiting the same behavior so they wouldn't admit him and Bridle Brook would take him back so he ended up at a nursing home 50 miles away. Eventually, another hospital changed his medication. Now Bridle Brook wont take him back because of the behavior issues even though things have changed. They're not even willing to assess him. There seems to be a disconnect between what they say and being able to work with us on the care. The assisted living, which my mom is in, is disorganized. I would like it they would take more time to provide one on one orientation when a new resident comes in to help them understand the procedures and how to take advantage of their new environment.

If you need professional indepth rehab, dont go here.

Long story but my husband had a massive stroke in June and did acute and skilled nursing rehab then ended up in the hospital again in Oct and did skilled nursing again. We chose Monterey Park in Indep because they rated well on rehab. Let me tell you, if your loved one is at all a complicated recovery with their disability, don't go to Monterey. He has wasted a month of his rehab time with them. Time is precious when you're trying to come back from a stroke. They were only interested in teaching him to stand and sit. He needed to be walking! [ [Name removed] was MUCH better at working to improve his lot. At least once he gets home, he will have Village Home Health ([name removed]) coming to the house and working on getting some function back. Not just teaching him to transfer from one chair to another. The rating system doesn't cover rehab which is my only bad grade for this facility. The CNA's, nurses and office staff are great. The rooms are lovely and the food is marginal. Cant rate value, his insurance was 100% pay.

Bathroom Doors are Difficult

I toured here while looking for places for my loved one. The thing that stuck out most for me was the bathroom doors here. I don't feel that they are meant for old people. The doors are pocket doors that slide in and out. You have to put your finger into a crevice in order to get it to open, and there really is no easy way to do this. For something so important, they should make it easier for residents to use.

..bad news, scathing review

hi..my dad, rest in peace, recently passed and feel he would've lived for some time..10-20 years..longer had it not been where he went after breaking his hip..this charade known as church creek.. ..he wasn't on the nursing home side, but the healthcare/rehab side after breaking his hip..yet, i feel that if they permit this scathingly [Removed] behavior on the rehab side..then who is to say it would be any different in similar situation on the nursing home side.. ..quite frankly, i despise being the bearer of bad news and my mother doesn't believe in lawsuits, otherwise they would've had a monster one on their hands and [Removed], to boot..yet, my conscience compels me to shed light on this, to say the least..this unprofessional, exploitative way he was treated..yet, still feel he would still be alive today, if not for blatant disregard pertaining to the way 1)his hip stabilizer contraption hadn't been on the wrong way as directed..which, i wasn't aware of until almost a month into..subsequently, reducing his mobility after healing from it being on when it shouldn't have..ie. laying down and overnight causing his hip to heal up crooked..so when he came home he was pretty much wheelchair/walker bound and couldn't get the exercise that he needed for lots of reasons and deteriorated a lot faster from there. 2) awful bedsores from not being cleaned properly after defecating. 3) unnecessary tests ran on him [Removed], when they didn't run the tests they needed to, as a result not catching his liver enzymes skyrocketing (INR) test?..in which, his levels were around 30 and should of been more around 2.. ..i do realize he was a 'difficult' patient, but that doesn't give them the right to run frivolous money making tests instead to support sinister bottom line at the expense of the ones that should have, not to mention my dads life..very disturbing..we are grateful to have gotten him out of there when we did..December '15, or he would've passed two Christmases(tearing up) sooner.. ..its just very disturbing the lack of compassion and caring they had..maybe part of it was not enough staff, yet still doesn't excuse and find hard to believe..but still doesn't excuse at the expense of patients or should i say inmates.. ..they day he 'escaped' he was swollen like a watermelon in both legs(pitting edema)..all the way (50lbs overweight-water) almost up to his heart..this is very difficult for me..that it took a life threatening emergency to save him, at least for another year or two..because he wouldn't of made it if we hadn't of that day.. ..i can go on n on..yet, it doesn't make me feel one one bit better doing so..only adequate closure..

Not friendly

Walked in and lady at front desk not friendly, felt like I was bothering her to ask questions. It was during meal time and walkers were blocking hallways and lobby area. First impression not good...we won't be returning. Asked if there was medical services and was told "on certain days" ???? We really wanted to consider this as a home for our Dad.

Communication and follow through have...

Communication and follow through have been challenging. They say the right things but then I have to ask repeatably. Food is ok but limited choices & not always practical for seniors ( chili is on the menu but not chicken noodle soup). Extremely limited male staff especially for the number of male residents.
