You would not want a loved one to be here.

You are basically alone in your room 24 - 7. Cold food is delivered with a small cup of soda for a beverage (coffee in the AM - cold). It is awful. There used to be activities but they were slowly eliminated. It is isolation.

This place needs help. Keep looking. :-(

My parent is in Peregrine and has been for about a year. This place seemed great at first but is rapidly going downhill. The Director is very mean (to her employees also from what I hear) and really doesn't KNOW the residents. There is a new nurse that seems very abrasive and hard to understand. The place is a revolving door for employees. The last review I can find is about 14 months old. If I were you.....I would keep looking and GOOD LUCK! Very few people really care about your loved ones like you would like them to.

Please Reconsider

Peregrine's Landing-Memory Care Unit Assisted Living facilities are for profit senior residences that target seniors and their families at a time when they are desperate for help in keeping mom healthy and safe. The Admissions/Marketing representative at Peregrine’s will make promises that the staff cannot deliver. [removed] The Memory Care Unit at Peregrine’s offers adequate physical care of its residents. The staff is very nice, however they are not trained to offer the emotional and behavioral support that residents with cognitive impairments require. For example, one resident was witnessed trying to leave to “go home” when she realized that she could not leave without setting off alarms. This was very upsetting to her and she could not understand why she was locked in. The staff did not offer any techniques to distract her away from the door, instead they told her she could not leave “without a doctor’s order”. The situation quickly escalated and the staff did not seem to know how to handle it. Unfortunately, the resolution to problems such as these is to call the physician for sedatives or send the resident to the emergency room for evaluation. Is this how we want mom to be treated? They also have staffing issues here. This is evidenced by employees working double shifts and staff scrambling to find replacements because the relieving shift worker called in sick. When you see this happening you can imagine that mom is not getting the attention that she deserves. It is also worth mentioning that the food is overcooked and bland, which is really sad considering meals are the only thing to look forward to here. And yes, that marketing person will tell you that if mom does not like what is on the menu then there is an alternative choice such as sandwiches, but you will never hear the staff offer an alternative to the two choices that are on the menu. I think you should reconsider your decision to move mom in here. Good luck with your search. Please also watch this Frontline video entitled Life and Death in Assisted Living: [removed]

Horrible Place

There is not enough space to express how horrible this place is. From the management staff to the aides they do not care about the residents. Money is the only thing they care about. They do not check on residents in rooms as promised. I know for a fact they never checked my loved one from 9pm until 7 am. Protocol was to check every 1/2 hour! The aides are horrible if resident is dozing at meal times they don’t bother to wake them or feed them when they wake up. They will lie right to your face that they did something when I knew for a fact they did not. No one keeps in touch as to progress or regression of patient. Aides will tell you they don’t have time because they are short staffed. Turnover is excessive. Overall do not place a loved one here it is not a good place.

Very disappointed an dangerous

My Mom entered the community in November just after Thanksgiving. The claim to be a memory care facility, but they are not equipped at all. My mother suffered from Alzheimers and we need a place for her to feel safe and secure. Instead this facility did nothing except let her wonder the halls all day. The put food down and if she ate, fine, if not, no encouragement or help. She ended up in the hospital for 10 days on Christmas eve and this was the beginning of the end, By the time we moved her in January to a new facility, she was not able to recover and passed away on [date removed]. She was healthy in body before this experience. This facility should not be called a memory care facility. They simply do that to make more money. I would never recommend this facility for any person who need memory care at all. The staff that worked the kitchen, floor and all aides were lovely. Simply ill equipped for this care. Terrible experience.

Would not recommend

They were doing a lot of construction but our loved ones room was always clean. Even though our loved one was there for a short time, we did see a lot of different activities so they seemed to be very good. They certainly can hire staff - it felt like the place was being ran by technicians rather than LPNs. It was very difficult or our loved one to receive medication and even the smallest of problems turned into the biggest issues. Our loved one spent more time in hospitals than at the community itself. We are not very happy.

Safety issues

Staff left my father alone in another room (50's diner) to eat because all tables in main area for dining were full of residents. After a fall my father was isolated to his room right after coming back from ED because a worker from peregrine exposed him to covid. I tried to tell them he would fall again, he was just discharged from ED, confused and unsteady. I said this was unsafe and was ignored. He did fall again the next day however they never notified us of what happened, the ambulance notified us when they called to ask what hospital they should take him to. Another issue was my dad was wearing other residents clothes and his clothes were always missing, and many never found. This was a huge dignity issue. There was a lack of follow though when we asked for physical therapy although they did admit they dropped the ball. I understand no place is perfect but the problem was a continuing pattern of lack of follow through and dignity issues, and unsafe monitoring plans.

Not good

Perigrine talks a great game They know all the key words and phrases they make lots of promises It’s all talk off a script well rehearsed and presented to you and repeated when you have concerns The doctor with traveling doctors and nurses association is a straight up bully and rude don’t try to be an advocate- it’s not pleasent Do not send any loved one here unless they are at a high level of functioning I sent a vibrant happy healthy , other than Alzheimer’s patient to this facility 3 moths later He is in sub acute care at greenfields I thought perigrine because it was small and intimate would be exceptional FAR FROM IT So much mis communication! Ask three people the same question on the floor And iPROMISE you will get three different answers Pretty sure they make it up as they go along Big Big Big Disappointment I wish I could say more

A very nice facility. Frequent turnover of aides. The kitchen has taken a turn in the last few months. Short staffed; ran out of tilapia special last Saturday [date removed]; out of white bread one day last week; beef brisket served so tough unable to cut it; my mother had to wait nearly an hour for her order to be taken 1 day this week. Unacceptable, especially with what the cost of rent is.

Just awful

Sadly this place is not what it seems. It is a shiny new facility that doesn't give a damn about the people entrusted to their care. Their staffing ratios are not what is advertised, or safe or legal. Swing by unannounced on weekend and you will see this for yourself. At times they have no idea how many resident are currently in the facility, which obviously begs the question how do you know everyone is accounted for? (Spoiler alert - they don't). And good luck finding any staff member at night, even one! This on top of unclean conditions, lack of attention, apparent lack of knowledge and experience concerning memory care needs and poor communication make for a subpar facility.

Disappointed. Not what was promised.

Been there a few weeks. Feel like they Over promised & under delivered. Opened in September, tons of staffing changes in January and it’s currently understaffed. Seems like more residents are moving out than moving in. Not convinced that the current staff in experienced in taking care of elderly with memory issues. Communication is a big issue. And the senior staff is not good with follow through. Don’t think we’ll be here long term. Very disappointed.

Heartbreaking

The care was well below a standard you would want for your loved one. Patients not treated with the respect or dignity they deserve as their Alzheimer's disease/dementia progresses. They will convince you that drugging them to the max is what they need instead of alternative behavior management and properly training their staff. As staff goes, constant turn over, severe lack of training and most administrator's lack in professiolism and can look you in the face with sincerity and lie. Can you imagine how bad it truly is when loved ones are not there? Lack of care and proper staffing lead to falls and constant ambulance trips to hospital. Especially on holiday weekends. Low staffing and temps and off they go because of laziness and poor training. I wouldn't leave my dog there for a day. Nothing but regrets and guilt for thinking it was the right place for my loved one. Don't make the same mistake, look elsewhere.

HORRIBLE

The Cheektowaga Location is the most unprofessional, unsteady place in the world just incase you are trying to bring your loved one in there DONT! This is literally the worst facility, they dont know how to treat their employees or clients. I had my parents there for a couple years and just a few days ago i find they fired one of their best employees over him not being able to show up for his shift while being sick in the hospital. I just believe if an employee is sick I would much rather them call off than get my over 70 year old parent sick as well. They discriminate and are very races in there. I can't stand this facility my family will be out as soon as i find something more reliable being that half of their staff is gone anyways due to the lack of communication they seem to have with their employees and residents. I can tell you i was shocked to hear that they LOCKED up the refrigerator because they thought employees were stealing things from the fridge. I personally don't care if they are or arent but if my Father is hungry at 3 in the morning and wants a ham sandwich i believe is only right they get it being that they are paying over $3,000 for their stay there. Also kinda sucks when the residents know everything that is going on with the employees and what ever other issue they are having within the company. Lets not mention that they don't know how to pass out medication and when to. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody and just know my family will be out ASAP and I am trying to get in contact with HR/DHQ as I am writing this.

Not the Right Fit

My loved one is doing okay in the memory care. Everything is good for them till she moves out. This community is for residents who have advanced memory lost. My loved one is not there and the community could have been honest and upfront when doing the assessment. We did not need to spend this amount of money.
