Safe and Caring Community

We are so satisfied with this community. The care is just great. They have 24/7 caregivers and nurses, a doctor that visits weekly, a podiatrist the visits biweekly, and physical therapists onsite. All of the staff have been wonderful to my mom. Every time I call there they are able to address my needs. The communication since COVID has been excellent. They call and send out letters with community updates. The food is great and they offer a variety at each meal. They offer many activities including bingo, social events, holiday parties, live entertainment and singalongs, and ice cream socials. All of the staff know every resident by name, My mom is taken care of in a manner that I really appreciate. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Pleasant Surprise!

I've never been to a retirement community before, but I came to visit my nana who has been living there for a few months now. We came over Christmas time and came to a lunch buffet and it was AWESOME. I'm not sure if they eat this way all the time but the buffet was so good! We came back the following Monday before heading back to NJ and ate in the small cafe and that was also really good. So jealous of all the great food! She also told us that they have activities like Bingo and Choir every week which is super cool! I was expecting some sort of nursing home when I came and when I left I was so pleasantly surprised that it was it's own self sustained community.

Bickford at Presque Isle - Where I hope to live when it's time to transition

Both my mom and godfather were residents at Bickford. The care, compassion, home-like setting, friends, meals, activities, environment went above and beyond my expectations. My cousin and I always joked, "When we retire, we want to live here!" At Bickford, we were all family. My mom often called it a resort. When it was time to put my mom into an assisted living facility, I looked for several things which Bickford provided and more: A place near the water (my mom always wanted to live by the ocean), activities to keep her busy throughout the day, companionship and friends, being able to participate actively in the care and decisions for my loved ones, a cheerful staff. I found in the 3 1/2 years of visiting my mom and godfather - 3 to sometimes 7 times a week - I always found the staff cheerful and always interacting with the residents. The residents truly enjoyed their residents. Based on studies with music and dementia patients, I wanted music - lots of it. Bickford offered so many wonderful programs and piped music into the hallways. They offered raised gardening during the growing season, puzzles, movie night-every night-snacks, bistro, bingo or Pokeno every night with fresh popcorn popping, daily socials or get togethers. The residents became friends. The staff kept the residents informed of the change of seasons and holidays with beautiful decorations, inside and outside of the building. Just walking up to the front of the building, felt like home. My mom and my godfather were always happy at Bickford. My godfather had the privilege to live his life out at Bickford surrounding by the compassion staff and local hospice.

You can look but you will not find better

My brother, who suffered from the early onset of Alzheimer’s, resided at Exton Senior Living for over seven and one half years. In all of that time he never expressed any dissatisfaction with the facilities or how he was treated. I live out of state so I could not visit him often but I had friends in the PA area visit him regularly and I called him at least once a week. My friends always found him to be dressed well and in a good mood. During the telephones calls I always asked him how they were treating him and how the meals are. He always responds positively. I did visit him several times over the years and on these visits, I found the facility to be clean, the food to be good and the staff to be courteous and friendly. My brother seemed to be as content as one could be under the circumstances. I consider myself very fortunate to have located Exton Senior Living. When my brother’s Doctor called and told me my brother had two major problems. The first was he had a serious heart problem and the second was the early onset of Alzheimer’s. I flew to PA and started looking for a place for him to live. I called or visited every assisted living facility in the Exton/West Chester area. As soon as I said the word “Alzheimer’s” I was advised they could not care for him or they quoted a price my brother could not afford. After three days of searching, I contacted Exton Senior Living. They agreed to visit my brother at the nursing home he was in and do an evaluation of his condition. The next day they contacted me and let me know they would accept him. I had him moved there and the rest is history. I had hoped he could live out the remainder of his life there but his condition deteriorated to the point that he needed the continuous care of a nursing home, so regretfully, I moved him to a Veteran’s Home. During my brother’s stay at Exton Senior Living, I interfaced with three facility Directors as well as many other staff members. They were all very professional and helpful. I do not know what I would have done without them. The most recent Director, [name removed] and the memory Care Coordinator, [name removed], went out of their way to get my brother packed and ready to move. This is normally the responsibility of the resident’s relatives. As I live fifteen hundred miles away, they relieved me of a great burden and I really appreciate that. When the transportation van arrived, my brother was ready to go and he was delivered to the Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg, Pa. As far as I am concerned, Exton Senior Living was a life saver for my brother and I do not know what I would have done without them. There is no way I can thank them enough for their support or give a higher recommendation for their professional services. If you ever have a loved one in need of help, I would look no further than Exton Senior Living.

Seamless admission process for [name removed] with helpful staff. He has a lovely efficiency apartment with small refrigerator/freezer and private bath. His pureed diet may lack texture, but it is 5-star for taste. The staff are all amazing - friendly, knowledgeable, caring - the list goes on! it was a great visit! It's a beautiful facility with lots of amenities. Gorgeous setting. The rooms were small but lots of common areas to gather in. Asked for a copy of their activity calendar. There are many things to do on a daily basis. The staff were very friendly and knew each of the residents by name. Not surprisingly, the price was pretty high. It will be interesting to compare to Independence Court next week. Thanks for your help!

Newhaven Court - Your search ends here

My mother was a Newhaven resident for 8 years. 96 year old Dad has just moved in! Mom started at Newhaven on the independent side. She had many challenging behaviors which isolated her in many ways. When Memory Care neighborhood opened, although we were resistant to the staff's suggestion that it might be a good fit for Mom, we agreed to try it, based upon their knowledge of Mom and how they felt they could best provide for her. The move to Memory Care proved to be one of the greatest gifts we were able to give Mom. In that beautiful community, Mom flourished with the unique staff and activities. She regained a feeling of independence, based on the focus on what she could do, not on her limitations. In amazement, Mom's doctors and her family watched as she actually improved in her 80's! She had friends with whom she socialized. She invited us to events. She had pride in her surroundings. She felt capable and vital. Those 7 years were a blessing for Mom, and therefore, us. Dad has been living independently, but this summer, it was evident it was time for a move. This time around, we did not visit multiple facilities, interview, etc. We knew from experience that Newhaven was the only place for Dad. He is in his own apartment. While change at his age is difficult for anyone, the staff has been WONDERFUL in getting Dad interested in activities and in life. We are not surprised. There are no cookie cutter plans at Newhaven - everything is individualized and personalized. The staff is amazing and helpful and kind and positive. My 2 parents could not have had any more different needs, but this group of people customize everything. There are times when issues arise and things need to be addressed. At Newhaven Court at Clearview, when we had a concern, I contacted management, we met promptly, and together we worked things out to address our concerns. It is a team where the resident, the family, and the staff all work together to provide the best possible living conditions. You can not ask for more than that. If you are interested in improving the quality of your loved one's life while gaining peace of mind over their safety and well-being, Newhaven Court at Clearview is the only place you need to go.

My mom thrives!

The Woods has a culture within this community that helps people thrive. My mom was reserved quiet and not to involved outside of her home. We wanted a place where she could get help with housekeeping, meals, and have other people to occupy her time. What we have found is this mother we didn't know! She is so active because they help figure out the individual needs and tailor the community to residents who live there. There is purpose to everything they do.

Newhaven Court Family

My parents have individually lived in senior care for the past 8 years. My mother lived for a short time in assisted living and then moved to the memory care neighborhood at Newhaven. Mom's move to memory care was the most wonderful gift we could have given her. Hesitant at first to move her, the staff met with us multiple times, compassionately and factually outlining Mom's strengths, struggles, and needs, leading us to try the memory care neighborhood. We were amazed to watch Mom IMPROVE in her new community, making friends, participating, enjoying life - things we would have never believed possible. Her quality of life was raised to the highest level possible for her. She delighted in her friends, her lovely home, and the focus on things she could do, not on things she could not do. No situation is without some challenges, however, from the director through his wonderful nurses and staff, we all worked together to give Mom the best life possible. When concerns arose, we always were met promptly and always, always felt as if our concerns were the most important things the staff had to deal with. So, last spring when it was time to consider a move for Dad, the hardestpart was done. Nowhere but Newhaven was even considered. Dad lives independently in his apartment at Newhaven, enjoying the people, the meals, the activities. While Dad's situation, and personality, is vastly different from Mom's, the staff has again demonstrated their adaptability by tailoring his plan uniquely to him. The facility is beautiful - a place where people are proud to live and visit. Quality is evident in the building, the food, the common areas, and most important of all, the people. When your loved one lives at Newhaven Court, they do not live with employees, they live with family - people who care for them as if you were doing it yourself. When leaving Newhaven after a visit, I have no misgivings, I have complete peace of mind.

First Choice Magnolias of Lancaster

I live in Malvern, 48 miles away. I go to visit my wife every day. My three goals for her are Healthy, Safe and Happy. She is all of these thanks to the most caring group of people I have ever seen. I found Magnolias quite by accident, and made an unannounced visit. My impression at first led me to believe it was exactly what I was looking for. A home-like setting; there is no institutional feel anywhere, small in size, sincere interest in each residents care and wellbeing, staffed by loving people who have a vocation, not a job. My initial feelings have turned out to be reality. I have options for her care a mile from my home, but won't move her.
