Wonderful Facility - Just Make Sure It's Right for Your Loved One

Make sure that this is the right place for your loved one. It is assisted living, so if you're on the border between independent and assisted, then this probably isn't the way to go. But for a lot of the residents here, it seems like the right level of care. It's definitely made my life easier knowing that my loved one is watched 24 hours, and I'm completely comfortable with his safety and security here. It's a nice place, in a nice area, and I don't have worry about him here. My loved one feels comfortable with the staff. He relates well to them, and they're the ones who keep him going since he feels less connected to the residents that are differently abled than him. It's really clean inside. My loved one finds the activities to be kind of silly, for instance flower arranging, caring for babies, hitting a balloon around. He's not crazy about the food, and it's gone downhill quite a bit since Covid. They're currently understaffed. Since my loved one is pretty self sufficient, I don't feel like he's getting care sometimes when he might need it. I did appreciate that they got their residents vaccinated quickly. I'm happy that he's safe, and I feel better having him here than having him at home.

Review of Garden Valley

I have been coming to Garden Valley retirement, helping my sister friend for 7 years. We have enjoyed new friends throughout the years. Before the covid-19 virus became a daily change in gathering together with others. I must say the food is very bad. In my opinion increasing the rent price each year is not nice, when most of their entertainment has been stopped.

Pre-Covid Madrona Hills Offers Fun with Friends Post COVID Madrona Hills Will Do Their Best to Help Your Loved One

The residents have been getting bored and restless. The quality of food wasn't there due to delivering meals to the residents, due to COVID. All I heard from the residents was complaints over the food. I'm not sure if there was a limitations and needing to follow corporate guidelines. Post COVID the community was particular about following the safety protocols. I think they could have been better at providing stimulation/activities for the residents. Madrona Hills has gotten particular about the safety and cleanliness to keep COVID out of their community. I feel the price should have been dropped or a refund given due to the community not being able to offer all the amenities offered that was in the contract.

Pretty Environment and Friendly

It's not bad, compared to the others. There are a few things lacking, it is good for the money. The service like transportation it is offered at limited times (only in the mornings, twice a week) for the residents to get to doctor appointments. They are offering meals at the door, and they are very friendly. It is an older place. There are not to many activities offered. My loved one moved in right before COVID. They provide three times a day, since residents can't get to the dining room, and bring snacks to each room. It is a beautiful place and the dining room is nice. Prior to COVID they had coffee and snacks prior in the dining room. There is a pond outside with chairs and very friendly. It is nicely priced compared to other communities. They do have cleaning services once a week and bring clean towels in.

Emerald Pond could use some improvements, the food is horrible. They have been through quite a few chefs, and their current chef just recently left. Not what I hoped for

I originally chose this community because is was under new ownership and it was what we could afford. My mother passed away in their care. At first, the care seemed okay, the food was good and she gained some weight She was in the memory care which was an affordable memory care. When we went to empty out my mother's belongings, we found her room to not be very clean. I would not recommend community to other families.

Review of Vineyard Place

Up until Covid-19, I loved it here. Now that chef [name removed] has left - our food is not so good! New employees that have recently been hired are not the warm and fuzzy type that we were used too. I guess we're spoiled!! I know everyone is doing the best they can do with the restrictions that have been enacted by Governor [name removed]! Let's all pray that we will survive!!

Review of Cascadian Place

It is O.K. - Not bad - Not good. I can afford to live in this studio apartment. Everything goes up, including my rent but not my income! I try to eat what is served, or I give it to the dog, or usually garbage. I keep food in my refrigerator to eat on those days. Housekeeping just O.K. The view is superb! Breathtaking, marvelous Cascade Mountain view wonderful!

Review of Cascadian Place

The staff is great and I am very happy with my apt. But the building needs repair. The roof needs new shingles, it leaks, and my bacony needs new floor (dry rot). Need new furniture and carpeting in the dining room and common areas.

Not what I expected

The food was fair. It was bland and they didn't offer a big variety. My apartment was really nice and the building was nice. Everything seemed to be inexpensive as far as what they provided there. I chose this community because from all of the places I looked at, it had the best rating.

When things return to normal, this would be a good place for active seniors

The community goes out of their way to make sure everything is clean and you can tell when walking around that everything is clean. In general, the staff is very friendly. Even in an emergency situation, the staff remains friendly. The community is a good value, however on the pricey side, with one exception, the food started out very good, and now it is only mediocre. We believe they are trying to improve, however, it hasn't improved yet. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the community is on total lock down. Family isn't allowed to visit and we are not allowed to leave our apartments unless it is for a doctors appointment. We feel they doing a good job of keeping us residents safe. The care is ok. Sometimes they do not show up to assist with showers or other services. Sometimes there is also a language barrier which makes communication difficult. Most of the caregivers, however, we feel don't have adequate CNA training. Some of the caregivers are more friendly, however there are exceptions. They normally provide in a lot of good activities for residents, we have been impressed with what they have to offer. During the Covid-19 pandemic, there hasn't been much in the way of activities. After being tested, we have no cases of Covid-19, so to provide some outside time, they are allowing us to walk with assistance in mask and gloves around the property, which provides needed time outside the apartment. The community is requiring all those that visit hospital to be quarantined for 14 days.

Staff ([name removed]) was very pleasant and informative. Mentoring program for new residents is good. Limited choices on apartment size and configuration. With construction on-going in reception/lobby area it was difficult to get a good idea of what the final result will be, but it seems that there is not much area given to socialize. rental rate was a little high, and with the additional charges for assistance with mobility, limited choices on the menu and extra charges for delivery of food to a room, the rapidly increasing costs for extended care and all the rest made it very expensive.

Great for independent Living, not so good for Assisted Living

My mother was a resident of Cortona Park for 7 years 3 months. She entered Cortona as independent living and enjoyed her beautiful apartment, staff, food, and the friends she made along the way. Things changed after she lived there just about a year when she fell in the bathroom and severely shattered her leg. Upon her return after 3 months in skilled nursing rehabilitation she required max point care giving which moved her her from independent to assisted living. In the 7 years she was in Cortona the facility had excessive staff turnover; 3 executive directors came and went, at least 250 caregivers and kitchen workers, and a half dozen Chefs. In that period the one constant has been the LVN medical director, which I believe has been the driver of constant attrition of caregivers who are underpaid, overextended, poorly trained and mis managed . The sad part is that Cortona has hired some really excellent people along the way, most unfortunately don't stay. After 7 years we had to move my 95 year old mother into skilled nursing because 2 new & inexperienced Cortona caregivers dropped my mother on the floor while attempting to get her into the shower, breaking her good leg and reinjuring the leg she broke 6 years earlier; two broken legs. She will be in bed the reminder of her lifetime because of our experience at Cortona Park. My observations are based on my daily presence in Cortona over the 7 years.
